How time flies. Its almost the 4th and final week of my Medicine SIP posting here at CGH. The past 3 weeks have generally been enjoyable, though having to wake up at 6am to go to hospital for the past 13 days consecutively isn't my idea of relaxing.. =P
Typical schedule would be like: arriving at 7am to help the HOs pre-round, do the list, print out results; rounds start generally abt 8.30am, and can be repeated when the Consultant appears, and hence ends around 10.30-11am.
Breakfast/lunch at the canteen with the whole team, before starting work on the changes - blue letters, phone calls, bloods, plugs, trace results, summarize notes, clerking new cases - all take up the rest of the day till evening rounds which generally start ard 4-5pm depending on when the Registrar appears. And then its home after evening rounds, which is usually ard 6pm plus..
There are 2 types of calls for SIP students, the half-call, where we leave at 9.30pm, and the full call, where we stay the night till the next day till abt 1pm (or when you're done with the changes). Had my 3 calls and 2 half-calls already - quite enjoyable cos the hospital is quite quiet at night, and there's always stuff to do at night (well, generally more bloods and plugs and new cases).
Enjoyable yes, but the after-math "hangover" the next morning isn't all that pleasant.. It isn't all that bad when you're doing work the next morning, but if you have a lecture or some talk the next morning, its zzzzzz...
Saturdays are half-days, and if you're calling on a weekend, there goes your weekend.. But its quite a fair rotation of calls lah.

Anyway, despite the crazy schedule, somehow still managed to squeeze in an outing with some of my JC class pple..

At Sushi Tei Raffles City!

Coming back to work, I've certainly learnt quite a fair bit of practical functioning skills throughout these 3 weeks. Though I'm not sure how the evaluation thing is gonna be, cos I think i'm too quiet for my own good. Sheesh. Need to speak up more.
Here's to a smooth final week in Medicine SIP..
