Engaged!

On November 7th, Jeff proposed, and I said yes! But for those of you who are not satisfied with that story, here's the long version.
On Sunday, November 8th, I was going to play with the Orchestra at Temple Square for the Music and the Spoken Word broadcast. I had rehearsal on Thursday night in Salt Lake, so I just stayed the whole weekend there with my grandparents. Jeff and my family came to Salt Lake on Saturday so they could be there to see me play the next morning. One of my best friends, Miquette, had planned a group date Saturday night and invited Jeff and me to join them. So we went to Miquette's house for dinner and then went to the nickel arcade. Jeff won me a stuffed monkey with the tickets :) That night, I was going to stay in the hotel with my family and Jeff was going to stay at my grandparents' apartment. I had been staying at Grandma's until then, so all my stuff was still there. I was driving, so after the date, I took Jeff back to Grandma's and I went in with him to get my stuff. We started walking up to the door and he grabbed my hand and pulled me back. I thought that he just wanted me to wait so that he could have a goodnight kiss before I left. Then he started telling me how much he loves me and then he got down on one knee. I was completely taken by surprise! I had expected a romantic evening with maybe some candles, music, and my ring in a wine glass or something (you know, the whole stereotypical proposal), but here we were on my grandparents' doorstep! So, I started laughing...somewhat because it caught me off guard and a little because the situation was so comical, but mostly because I tend to laugh at inappropriate times. Then, Jeff pulled out a white ring box, opened it up, and asked if I would marry him. I hesitated a minute while I thought of the one word that would change my life forever, and I said yes! He got up and I hugged him, then he slipped the ring on my finger (this was not the real diamond engagement ring--he was smart and considerate enough to let me pick that out myself). And that's the way I remember it. Jeff tells a slightly different story, however...but you'll have to ask him if you want to hear that version.
So, we are getting married on December 30, 2009 in the Vernal, Utah temple. The Logan openhouse will be December 19th, and the Vernal reception will be January 15th. I am so excited for Jeff and I to start our new life together :D

Halloween

I'm really not big into Halloween(probably the reason I'm sitting here updating my blog instead of out celebrating this most wonderful of holidays), but I do like carving pumpkins. This year, Jeff and I carved one together.

It's a pumpkin! This is the "before" picture.

Jeff, sawing the top off the pumpkin.

Me, taking the guts out. I actually really like this part :)

The two of us waiting for the pumpkin to dry.

Jeff, carving the face that I picked out.

Yay! We're finished!

This is me, imitating the look on the pumpkin's face, and Jeff...being Jeff :)

The finished product!

My Birthday...Sort of

My birthday fell on a Thursday this year and everyone was busy and we couldn't all get together for cake on the actual day. So, we celebrated a few days later with French Pastry. I told Mom I wanted a cake with "Happy Birthday Rachel" written on it and candles. She laughed, but then humored me.

Me and the boys with my cake!

Andrew really really wanted to light the candles, so I let him.

It took everyone to get all those candles lit!

Happy birthday to me! My age is almost a fire hazard!

Recent Adventures

Ok, I'm trying (once again) to make an effort at keeping my blog updated. A few weeks ago, Jeff and I decided we wanted to go on a hike. We tried for a long time to find the trail head, but since I was navigator and can't read those crazy forest service maps, we couldn't find it. So, we went to Remember the Maine park instead.

This is James and Jeff skipping rocks. The boys had a great time seeing who could throw a rock the farthest! ...and had a better time laughing at me only throwing the rock a few feet...

Me and Jeff :)

A really cool spider web!

New Approach

As you all know, I don't really like posting pictures on my blog cuz it takes forever. It's fast and easy to post them on Facebook, so here's a link to them. I'm not sure how it will work, but we'll give it a try.

Star Trek!!

My roommates and some of our friends went to the midnight showing of the new Star Trek movie the other day. We were FIRST IN LINE! That's right. In the back of the line they were talking about a huge group of girls that were first--that was us. Eat your heart out, Trekkies ;) My dad claims that anyone who goes to the midnight showing is a Trekkie, but we were only going because the actors are totally hot. And it scored us some points with all the nerdy guys there :)

This is the whole clan--Lindsay, Christy, Kelsie, me, Emily, Drew, and Val

We played Uno. Gotta have something to do for the hours we waited for the show to start :)

Christy won the game!

Live long and prosper! Drew can't do it, so she had to hold her fingers together :)
