A Great Time

Well the scrapbook weekend has come and gone and I think I have finally recouped. We had so much fun. Even though I did not get any pictures scrapbooked I had so much fun visiting, shopping and staying up way too late. It was great to be with my sisters, mom and friends. I am already looking forward to the next one in March. Eric and the kids even seemed to survive the weekend without mom.

On another note. The countdown has begun for the arrival of the baby. October 25th is the scheduled c-section. We still have not agreed on a name but we have 4 weeks to do that and besides whos counting?

Life Insurance

After reading a post on Brandon and Amie’s blog about insurance, I had to write a little something on the topic of life insurance. The idea of having life insurance became important to me after the loss of two of my firefighters last year. Well when I checked into getting a policy last summer I found out that, I was in a poor health class because of my weight and the premium was going to be very expensive, so the idea of getting a policy was not in the budget. Well one year later and 140 lbs lighter I checked into the idea once again because I fit into the "normal" weight range as dictated by the insurance company. Therefore, I began the paperwork for insurance for myself, Jennylin and a little on each of the kids. After all of the medical paperwork, blood draws, and screening we now have life insurance. I did not know how it was going to go with Jennylin's health history involving the "c" word. The premium however is higher then quoted because they still have given me a poor health rating (same class as a smoker). The reason being they tell me is that I have had too much weight loss that was not under a doctor’s care. I asked them to come run a 10K with me and then rate my health, but they did not take me up on the offer.

Cold Vs Hot

As I look out my office window and watch the snow (yes snow), fall gently from the sky I felt compelled to write about which is better the cold or the heat. Last weekend I attended a fire chiefs convention in Dallas, Texas. Tempratures were in the low 90's with humidty around 50-60% and at times a gusty wind was blowing. I can honestly say that most times while outdoors I felt like I was standing in a furnace. It did however remind me of my days in the tropical Dominican Republic with humidty levels of 90-95%. Wyoming is mostly noted for its colder weather, but one can at least prepare themselves to be comfortable in it most of the time if they so desired. Now the thought of growing anything outdoors might be out of the question, but do we sacrifice our personal comfort for the sake of growing a tomato? So I guess I will throw out the question, what do you prefer? The hot or the cold?

The countdown has begun

The countdown is on. For me it is 9 days until a vacation, for Eric it is 9 days until he is Mr. Mom.
Every 6 months or so what started out as a weekend away to scrapbook with a small group of family and friends has now turned into a full scrapbook retreat with approx. 40 ladies coming everytime. It is so much fun, and I am just so lucky to have a husband who is willing to spend the weekend with the kids being Mr. Mom so that I can go. My sister and I put it together every fall and spring and it has been a blast. So back to my countdown. Next weekend is the fall retreat!!!! Now being 8 months pregnant this time I am not promising how much scrapbooking will get done, but I know I will have a great time seeing family and friends.
I hope Eric is looking forward to the weekend as much as I am. I know the kids love having Dad in charge.
Well I will let you know how it goes next weekend. Until then I will keep counting the days down.

The 10K

Well in the crisp morning air of Midway, UT (39 Degrees at Race Time to be exact), I managed my first 10K Race. The 10K (6.2 Miles) race was part of the Swiss Days Celebration held every year in Midway, near Heber City.

The results: Overall Time 51:39
6th Place in age group (30-34)
61st Male Overall (314 Registered Runners)
8:18 Mile Pace

What is interesting about these results is the pace is actually a faster pace then I had run in a couple of 5K races earlier in the summer. So when I ran a longer distance I seemed to pick up the pace which seems to be exactly the opposite of what should happen. It was a lot of fun and I am looking forward to the next big adventure. If this is the last offical run of the season it won't be the end of my running for the winter, RUN ON I SAY. I am looking towards March and hope to do a Half Marathon in Moab, UT. IF all goes well I have penciled in June 2, 2007 to complete the Salt Lake City Marathon. My mind is ahead of my body at this point, but I find it helpful to work towards fixed specific goals. So if any of you family and friends out there in cyberland want to join me in these pursuits, please let me know!!
