Washington, D.C. shooter from Flushing
From WPIX:
The suspect in Monday’s U.S. Navy Yard massacre was arrested in Seattle in 2004 after shooting out the tires of a car during an “anger-fueled blackout,” according to Seattle police.
Aaron Alexis, his father told Seattle police at the time, allegedly suffered from anger-management problems related to post-traumatic stress disorder. His father told Seattle police that Alexis had assisted in the recovery efforts at Ground Zero on Sept. 11, 2001.
From the Queens Courier:
A Queens native is connected to the shooting at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday that left more than a dozen people dead, federal authorities said.
The FBI identified Aaron Alexis, 34, formally of Flushing, as a gunman in the shooting, which began at about 8:20 a.m. at the Navy House in Washington D.C., officials said.
At least 13 people are confirmed dead, including Alexis, who authorities said died this afternoon.
Alexis fired on workers in the cafeteria and hallways before he was subdued, according to reports. Alexis worked for the Navy as an aviation electrician, reports said. According to the FBI, he most recently lived in Fort Worth, Texas.

if he suffered from so much stress why did he not go and seek medical help -- things like this bother me -- so instead he kills and hurts innocent people -- i would not even say a pray for this person -- i am disgusted for sure
Ironic, that the USA wants to police the rest of the world (Syria, Iraq, etc), but cannot even police its own country.
It is time for the USA to take care of their own backyard.
"The FBI identified Aaron Alexis, 34, formally of Flushing,"
that should be formerly of Flushing.
Spelling Police
If Obama had a son, would he look like Aaron Alexis?
I didn't think there were any black folks left in Flushing after 1990 or so.
Joe, if your saying we should stay the hell out of the Syrian civil war, I agree. None of our business; would anyone out there want their son killed or crippled in that mess? As far as whether we are being policed in the good ol' USA, you bet we are!
Another nut like the 100s the city houses in Flushing Meadow Park.
Couple years ago there was a dude who looked just like this in GREEN camo fatigues sitting on the LIRR embankment @ the NY Hall of science parking lot screaming obscenities and gibberish out into the open.
Not one cop in sight and there was 1000s of kids out on the Hall of Science deck having lunch, 100s more out by the rockets !!!
I did eventually talk to a cop another time bike riding and was told:
“Once these hospitals release these guys nothing is in place that forces them to take there medication. These guys also sell there meds to buy drugs & booze or run out and cant afford to buy more.
Its less trouble to let them squat in park then have them causing havoc all around the surrounding neighborhoods, we have to many calls to deal with as it is”
It is very important to learn the signs of a person who is easily prone to violence and irrational acts.
It could save your life.
I see black men who fit this same description on the subway and on the streets every single day. I physically distance myself as quickly as possible.
If the woman neighbor had been listened to when he shot through her floor, could be those he murdered and himself might be alive today.
There are a lot of people who survived 9/11 and doing rescue work there who don't go on a murder spree. The family is lying about him being at ground zero. PROVE IT.
What sort of "rescue attempts" could one have performed after 9/12 or 9/13/2001?
The area around the World Trade Center was closed off almost as soon as it could be to prevent looting and injuries to unauthorized people going through the rubble. I'm calling BS on this.
the majority of the U.S. mass murders were done by the mentally ill ,who belong in the many U.S.mental institutions.
eg.the Sandy school ,the Aurora theatre, the Congress woman and staff in Colorado.
the mental health socialist lobby is at fault for closig Bellevue Psychiatric,Creedmore, and possibly Pilgrim State.
the Norwegians may have changed their gov.,last month, because of lax security that resulted in 67 youngsters and political agents being murdered by Breivik. he got 12 years in jail. what a society socialism develops ?
the public is at jeopardy daily in nyc subways.
laws do no demand enforcement in the socialist world.one is really on his own.....
IF the D.C. leftwing government had a STOP,QUESTION,FRISK program ,their would be 13 citizens more alive today.
Stop and frisk might be useful in some cases. Not here. Keeping guys like this lunatic from obtaining weaponry like that might be more useful. But that would violate your 2nd Amendment rights, correct? Stop and frisk finds concealed weapons. Was he hiding anything? And how could he enter a facility like that with weapons like that?
And let's consider this again: why was he allowed to obtain weapons like those? How many other human time bombs like that guy are still out there with similar armament? Come back from extreme right-wing fantasyland, No. 12, think for yourself for a change, and answer that.
Its a pointless argument mr. liberal. True Americans are not going to voluntarily give up their constitutional rights. There was a good reason for the 2nd amendment and there still is. Also a criminal will not be stopped by passing another law. It is illegal to bring a fire arm onto a U.S. Government facility and that didn't stop him.
The point is that no one has to give up any rights. I don't want to eliminate the Second Amendment. I want to stop horrific incidents like this. That's what True Americans want. They want to live in peace and freedom, without fear of people like the guy in DC or the other lunatic in Newtown having access to all kimds of weaponry. People like you, who cower behind the Second Amendment, are enabling them. I don't know what the answer is - I admit that - but you read about this guy, and have to ask how was he allowed to get his hands on the gun that he went into the Navy Yard with, and how can we prevent something like that from happening again? There has to be a better way to do it while protecting everyone's constitutional rights. Stop and frisk would not have done a thing here, and you know it.
The second amendment was not written by cowards but was designed for a specific purpose, which you are missing. Maybe someone should have actually been paying attention to all of the warning signs this mentally ill person was giving off. Your right, you don't have any answers, so try Sweden. Your song sounds like a lullaby.
This is my country; I love it. All you're doing is repeating old extreme right-wing bromides and have suggested even less. You don't sound too happy here. Maybe you're the one who would be better off elsewhere.
Mr. Liberal, I already paid the price for it and am happy with the second amendment and all the others. Never know, you might need me again!
I'm happy with all of the Amendments as well, including the Second, which calls for a well-regulated militia. Giving a guy like this the ability to easily obtain weaponry like this is not maintaining a well-regulated militia, and you know it.
I think the people who most want to have a well-regulated militia (one would guess that means you) should be the ones who most want to keep guns out of the hands of people like this, because when tragedies like this occur, it would lead to calls for more gun laws, true?
He was given a general discharge and he gets a top security clearance.Govt is cheaping out and they dont want to pay to have the correct job done. In the nypd there used to be an applicant investigation unit. The pd did not want to pay the salary of a detective. It is now called applicant processing. Civilians with no investigative skills fill out a checklist and a simple computer chek.Feel safe the next time you see a cop from a country half way around the world who can barely speak english?
Mr lib You can't keep guns out of the hands of criminals. But laws you favor keep them from good people. typical and disturbing.
Nope. I question whether or not good people truthfully need such terrible weapons, but if they're law-abiding and take proper precautions, no issue to me.
What I want to do is to keep people like Aaron Alexis and Adam Lanza from having easy access to those weapons, and using them to kill good people. You seem not to care. That's disturbing.
Too bad he couldn't take Flushing's bad boy, Tommy Huang, with him.
I blame the navy yard for its lax security as well.
ANYONE taking meds like him, should be barred from working in "secure" installations until cured.
Nobody is "good" when they have to resort to the use of guns to solve their problems. They are certainly mentally ill!
Aside from a very slim chance of having to defend one's self, guns cause more trouble and accidents in the home.
i.e.
I own a loaded gun therefore I can keep my bedroom window open at night.
WRONG!
Perimeter defense comes first. Anyone having served in the military knows this very well.
The statistics support this fact.
If they locked up paranoid schizophrenics like Aaron Alexis, we would have no politicians left! MacAME is building minority housing right by the Muni parking. 2.7% of Flushing is still black
I bet there were more than a few people in that Navy Yard wishing they had this demented character in their sites that day.
They gave him a lot of leeway because he's BLACK. If this had been a white man, ranting in the hotel, he would have been taken to a mental hospital and those people would be alive today.
Sue the Middletown, RI police department.
it is reported that Alexis sawed off the barrel of the Biden Shotgun bought legally in Va.so that it would fit in his backpack. workers said it was common to enter through the gates with backpacks and get no check.
Stop ,Question ,Frisk would have stopped him.no deaths would have occurred.
he took the hand gun from the inside guard that he shot.
NO AR-15 was involved.
todays nyc media tells of at least three mentally ill crimes.
gives you some idea of the security status of our government and military bases, with the exception of the Marines. Another lesson America, learning the hard way!
It's harder to get into Queens Borough Hall or a sports venue with a backpack than it was for Alexis to get into the Washington Navy Yard with one. Stop and frisk can be hit or miss. Search everyone.
