So.. This is for the Bodycount 60" trailer that we developed a couple of months ago at The Mill. Directed by Douglas Lassance and Jonathan Vuillemin and the 3D gaming crew.

Co-director: Jonathan Vuillemin: “For this project we went straight from the 3D animatic to a colored mood board. The advantage of that was to set the mood early on in the development process and to give some intentions about the details that needed to be added to each shot. The lighters and compositors then matched the painted frames as closely as possible.”

As Jonathan said, I created the mood board (the one in here is an early version, which was later changed to a green mood as it did fit better the African mood, although I prefer the first I did :) )
The 3D guys provided me with enough assets to create the rest of the paintings, it looks really dark in the cinematic so I hope you can get a better taste on this images.

I have to say that the time was really tight (1 month) to finish everything, but it was great to work with such a cool team of people!!

Watch it here!! <------

By the way... We've been part on the new Stash issue. YAY!

This is the color study for PetPet Park, a virtual pet website launched by Nickelodeon.
The client needed to see if those characters could be made in 3D. I did this color study in Photoshop to see if it could.
If you want to see the result directed by FinkBom just take a look and enjoy!

I was contacted by The Frank Barton Company a few months ago to develop the backgrounds for this funny commercial.
I had loads of fun creating those backgrounds and the experience with the company couldn't be better, I hope you like it!

A few months ago we developed two adverts for McDonalds at Picasso Pictures , it was directed by Finkbom, I did the the texture for the cows and the birds, the color study for the set and the mattepainting for the background.
This is the first color study we did to get the pitch, :)
Damian Johnston designed the character and I did the color work using (of course) Photoshop.
It was for a pitch.. so there is a lack of details on some areas as you can tell...
I hope you like it!

Hey , I forgot to post the work I did for The Lady and the Reaper.
Such a nice project to work in, the guys at Kandor did really good! great experience!

Well, just to show a bit how the process goes. The character was done (once again) by Mister Damian Johnston, directed by Finkbom, it was for a pitch so there were no time for a proper finish, the idea is to give as much detail is possible but without spending more than a day.
I use Photoshop most of the time (if not always).
The first is to start making a selection for the background, its really important to end up with a clean image if the character is for a 3D commercial, then a rough layer with the basic colors and you are done to add some volume to the character but not being to worry about the finish yet, as the texture layer (if needed) always messed up a bit the image, for the texture don't be worry to find a picture on line etc... as there is no time to create your own , and being realistic, it always looks better. To apply the texture just play around with the layer modes (*Soft Light* always works pretty well depends of the texture)
Now you are ready to play with the adjustment layers to match colors, or simple to create a fake tan as the one on this character as it was needed for this character.
Getting pictures as a references is really important as well, but don't spend hours looking for the right one, remember there is no time!
The image is quite big so you can see the lack of detail in the less important areas..
I promise next time I will spend more time describing the procces! :D

Back in January I worked on this project with the awesome people from SuperFad-London (now sadly dissapeared, snifff )
I did the design for the underwater world, then the talented artist Nina Pfeifenberger converted my designs into a proper set made of fabrics! I've never seen any of my designs become alive that way and she did it so nicely! (lucky me eh")
I also designed 2 of the posters for the promotion, it took a while! (you know why graphics designers of the world... :-p ) I had to do quite a few designs before we were getting close to the client preferences.
I hope you've been enjoying the ad on TV !

I did a couple of concepts for a Pitch at Nexus, the character was provided from Nexus and colored by me, sadly we didnt get the job, the guys from Laika did... and what a great advert they've done, check it on line.

Mission complete!!

After 2 years working on this movie as a color artist back in Madrid in December 2007!!! (Wow..seems only like yesterday) I feel really lucky and give thanks to have met so many great professional artists that were working there. I'm even more thankful that many of them are really good friends today!

I've been really impatient to see the finished project and finally now is time to share it with you guys. I hope you enjoy the works I will be posting randomly today and over the next few days!

This is one image that I did to show in my portfolio...basically, Carolina and Nacho gave me the layout of the character and I had to colour it (with photoshop) and then pass it over to the Modeling and Texture Department.

If you like it, I recommend you buy the art book of the movie, not just because my work is in there :D but because honestly it is one my favourite movie art books! Take a peek of the review from parkablog so you can see what i'm talking about :D

Mr.Plot (left) Qstom...right?

Apologize about the creepy eyes! but you know..to a giving horse, don't you look the teeth! ( lol ) Thx for the pics Luis!

Well.. it supose to be my Halloween card (never sent!) coz I'm a lazy cow :| so...enjoy it now!

By the way.. done in photoshop from scratch" Enjoy!!

PD:as you can see..there is some photo texture on the wood, if there is someone interested on it I will post the texture!

Just a character concept .. done in photoshop from scratch..

Hello there! I hope you guys are enjoying the summer! I just had lunch with my mates laying on the the Saint Annes's Church's grass. Ok, you have to fight to get a bit of grass that's not wet but trust me, it's worth it! and you know the summer in London is not famous because of the sun lol so people get crazy when it shines (at least I do) hehe
By the way... those are some mattepaintings I've been working on to add to my portfolio. Hope you like it !
