Comte De Monte Cristo

Here rests the thoughts of an immortal, making of what the world hath thrown at him.

"My dear count," cried Morcerf, "you are at fault--you, one of the most formidable logicians I know--and you must see it clearly proved that instead of being an egotist, you are a philanthropist. Ah, you call yourself Oriental, a Levantine, Maltese, Indian, Chinese; your family name is Monte Cristo; Sinbad the Sailor is your baptismal appellation, and yet the first day you set foot in Paris you instinctively display the greatest virtue, or rather the chief defect, of us eccentric Parisians,--that is, you assume the vices you have not, and conceal the virtues you possess."

Barcelona 2007

Yes, I am back from the wonderful city of Barcelona. Dispense with the small talk and here comes the pictures.

La Rambla
This is like one of the main streets in the city and has very nice buildings and trees lining either side of the street. At the end of La Ramblas is The Columbus Column with a 7m tall statue of columbus pointing out to sea. There are also lots of buskers along the way so there is always interesting sights to see. Mercat de Sant Josep is a street market that I went from La rambla and it is different from the wet market in singapore. I liked the way the sweets, fruits and veggies are arranged and is very appealing to the senses.

Monserrat
The Santa Maria de Monserrat is the basilica on top of the mountain. We took the train from Placa De Espanya which features beautiful towers as well. I was very impressed with the architecture and amazed at how they manage to build the whole thing on top of the mountain without much technology in those days. The cliff faces of the mountains looks like giants ready to walk, indeed as its also known as Magic Mountain.

Gaudi's Works: Sagrada Familia, Casa Mila, Casa Battlo.
Everywhere you go in Barcelona, you hear of Gaudi Gaudi and more Gaudi. He is famous for the masterpiece which is unfinished even today 100+ years after construction, The Sagrada Familia. Massive spires with strange decorations such as oranges and other fruits ontop of some of them. Gaudi modernisme approach never ends and continues in his other work like Casa Mila and Casa Battlo where colours dominate and curves are used only avoiding any straight lines. Yes, even the walls are curved. The chimneys of Casa Mila are very interesting and its worth the climb as it offers views of the city as well.

Kinda tired due to jetlag, will upload more tomorrow.
