Comte De Monte Cristo

Here rests the thoughts of an immortal, making of what the world hath thrown at him.

"My dear count," cried Morcerf, "you are at fault--you, one of the most formidable logicians I know--and you must see it clearly proved that instead of being an egotist, you are a philanthropist. Ah, you call yourself Oriental, a Levantine, Maltese, Indian, Chinese; your family name is Monte Cristo; Sinbad the Sailor is your baptismal appellation, and yet the first day you set foot in Paris you instinctively display the greatest virtue, or rather the chief defect, of us eccentric Parisians,--that is, you assume the vices you have not, and conceal the virtues you possess."

Hamster died.

Now hamster1 is dead, I got no more animal friends. The only thing I need to do now is to find out when I recieved this hamster.

Mr hamster moved in when I just moved into my house I guess... I remember trying to buy some hamster toys for it when I was still in secondary school. I clearly remember in my school uniform at one of pet shops in holland village buying some stuff for my hamster.
If that is so, that puts the date of the hamster to be 2004. To be exact its 2004 2nd half because I moved in around one month or so before the chinese O levels in middle of the year. Hamster1 wasn't bought, it was given to me, so it has to be some months before I moved in.

So fastforward to today. this is 31st Jan 2007. Judgin from the state of decomposition, I can clearly say it died yesterday 30th of Jan, its stomach is bloated and all, but no smell yet.(anything that dies in my room slows in decomoposition anyway due to the dry atmosphere)

Put a ficticious date on its birth. Let us say September 2004... and we finally arrive at life span of: 2 years 5 months. Since Campbell's hamsters have an average lifespan of 18-24 months when raised in captivity, my hamster has outlived its average among his peers by nearly 1/2 a year!

Exams

Exams are always stressful, but this time I have taken a new approach. I decided I want to do something else rather than science all this while. So im less stressed than the usual because its no longer of much importance.

In science only the top will do research
In science we memorise stuff like a machine.

Well its all neccessary but I dont like it.

New Year 2007

What was I doing when new year dawn upon us? I was watching the most outrageous display of pop culture I had ever seen on channel 5 and sipping my wines as usual. Mainstream pop culture is changing, and I saw a bunch of buffons, artless and boorish people performing on stage, inwhich you cannot tell any of them are male OR female. Now that is indeed disturbing, where have all the good old positive music and culture went? What has happened to that era where all that is good is amplified in music? Most of all, what happened to the classics?

2007 means advancing to the future... However if one is to consider the outcomes of trying new ideas and abandon the traditions of the past. To preserve culture, we preserve our identity, what for do we preserve the cultures of others? Why do we want so much to have a western identity? Afterall, the chinese empire has fluorished for 5000 years so who else can compare to that long peroid of history?

Religious matters... I have recently successfully "convert" (it should be revert) someone from a monothestic religion (im not going to name it). This is wonderful news, as the words of richard dawkins ...

"For many people, part of growing up is killing off the virus of faith with a good strong dose of rational thinking. But if an individual doesn't succeed in shaking it off, his mind is stuck in a permanent state of infancy, and there is a real danger that he will infect the next generation."
