Comte De Monte Cristo

Here rests the thoughts of an immortal, making of what the world hath thrown at him.

My Photo
Name:
Location: Paris, Island of Monte Cristo, Singapore

"My dear count," cried Morcerf, "you are at fault--you, one of the most formidable logicians I know--and you must see it clearly proved that instead of being an egotist, you are a philanthropist. Ah, you call yourself Oriental, a Levantine, Maltese, Indian, Chinese; your family name is Monte Cristo; Sinbad the Sailor is your baptismal appellation, and yet the first day you set foot in Paris you instinctively display the greatest virtue, or rather the chief defect, of us eccentric Parisians,--that is, you assume the vices you have not, and conceal the virtues you possess."

A day in the life of....

Many people are curious where I live and such. In a strange HDB flat far far away, with trees surrounding me all day. Thats pretty much I can say.(rhymes somehow) Well I got pictures to help with the guessing and to show what sort of a environment I live in.

Thats the view from my window, strange looking trees even higher than the 21st floor which I live in, and the sea in the background. Well its kind of hazy today thanks to forest fires but the view is really good after it rains. You can even see some far off islands if you are lucky.

Thats my table and stuff lying on top of it. It is made completely of wood and custom fitted for my room. My room need custom made furniture as it has a rather strange angle (not square or even rectangle) at one corner so not everything fits nicely.

That is one of my birthday gifts, its an antique looking clock. Just recently got it repaired as the chimer mechanism was off and the time was seriously off. The wood finish is fantastic and I heard that the price was equally fantastic too.

Again another custom made bookshelf with glass doors. Explaination In order from Top to bottom and left to right. The top left first shelf goes all my books from the old days, books from the old house and all those odd books that nobody wanted to take in after I read them. The shelf below it which looks yellow is all my national geographic magazines I have over the years. I got complete collection from 1993, 1996, 1997 and 2000 to 2005-current. I had more than that but some people borrowed an entire year's collection without returning. The bottom left shelf is for my encyclopedias from my younger days. Top right shelf is where all the important books are, all my philosophy books from confucius to descartes, greek classics to science novels. Next shelf below is my display shelf with all the pictures and tea cups and such, Last bottom right shelf goes all the religious books that I somehow obtained over the years.

Just a spread of books I am now reading, Left to right, "Tea, Addiction, exploration and empire", "Confucius Analects"(always),"Niccolo Machiavelli, The Prince and Other Writings", "James Watson DNA the secret of life"(extremely insightful). All these books I had bought from Kinokuniya which as a whole collection of great books from any genre.

That is an Epipremnum pinnatum or Pothos to the europeans or money plant to many singaporeans. Among my strange interests is plants and gardening. It always gives me great delight to grow plants in different environments and observe how they thrive (or die in some cases). Many plants that were grown in my room are now in the balcony as they became too big. I wonder has it got to do with the strange weather fluctuations.

Just a picture to show the extent of growth. Its about 2 metres in height now and trailing on my floor. Very soon Im going to cut it off.

People know I drink many types of tea during different times of the day. In the afternoons I prefer something light and refreshing. This tea is wholely made of sakura blossoms, this which I identified as the Ichiyo type. There seems to be only one place where I can get this tea. The current sachets I have are the remnants of what I brought from Fukuoka in japan during April.

Last picture shows my latest experiment, her name is hamster1 when I was cleaning her cage. Hamster1 was given to me two years back or more and I certainly did not make it drink some chemical or something of that sort. Hamster1 at two years is still alive and kicking. I hope I can get it to live past 4 years.

Books, Tea, Music and Investments.

Four major areas I got to look at this holidays, I still got books I ordered and havent collected. I even got books I bought and have not got the time to read, and I am aiming to read them all. Tea stocks are still good, still at 10 over types of tea in my collection but seriously I still yearn for the Cha Wang tea but I havent got the money or time to buy, this leads to the next point. Music examinations on 20th september for piano, I still havent much expressed the colour of the three pieces im going to get graded for. Scales are atrocious, and sight reading is equally daunting. Might also continue to draw and practice my art skills which I have not drawn anything substantial for the past half a year. This reminds me that I got to get new colour pencils and throw the old ones away as they are mixed with other types of colour pencils and it distracts me.

Again another holiday is here, a time to catch up with old chumps and have a cup of tea(or high tea). Still yearning for sushi and stuff, mother refuse to give me money because she says I got too much in my account and I should use them, but im not going to complain, just that I dont like to see cash with strange decimal places behind them.

A presumptive failure

The Microbiology test was a disaster. It was can be said that I experienced the worst feeling a person could have when I glanced through the paper during 10mins reading time. Listeria monocytogenes?! What is there to write about Listeria to get 15 marks. Apparently I was told that there was a piece of paper given out during one of the Microbio lessons regarding extra information on Listera. Oh goodness, I know all there is to know about Vibrio cholerae, Salmonella, Escherichia, Clostridium perfringens, Clostridium botulinum ... But Listeria?! 15 marks down the drain!

The Question on Mycotoxins was a disaster too as I did not remember anything except Aspergillus flavus Aflatoxin. Now thats a 8 mark question again flushed down to the bowels of hell.

Molecular Genetics looks rather unassuming on the outside judging from the 3 past year papers I have right now. I hope its not going to be a killer. I am kind of worried about Chemistry though as there are many mistakes I can make, questions are not as direct as one would expect. Plant science has lots of information for good memory work, again I wouldnt expect anything less challenging than the Microbiology paper.

Everytime I think of the Microbiology paper, I feel irritated, there goes the 3.0 GPA hope.

A moment to savour the blood.

I am seriously enjoying the look of that pathetic face on this classmate of mine when he gets abandoned by his greatest backing(me). I will name this classmate "X". (could be A B C D E F G....... the letter has no resemblence to actual name)

Whatever X does irritates me, from the way X conducts himself (resembling a zombie walk somewhat), to the way X sounds (nasal and high pitched), to the way X behaves in general. X's manners are equally annoying, citing among the many are the usual yawning with mouth open wide, almost insatiable hunger like an animal and the worst, wastage of food. The approach of X is easily anticipated with 1) the derranging rustle of the sole of the footwear 2) the smell and exudate from the by products of bacterial metabolism of apocrine sweat 3) twit like demeanor and inappropriate dress code that can be detected from 1km away. Even when X write notes in class, its a pain to watch how X clutches the pencil and raises it somehow in a almost "EUREKA!" fashion before putting the lead point of the tip onto the paper itself. X also sports atrociously long vulgar fingernail lengths. X is a perfect example of a person who doesnt help others because of selfish reasons ... quoting illogical excuses and equally dumb ideas to buffer us.

When people ask why isnt X my friend anymore. I always say, X is never my friend in the first place, X is never near to my status, no matter what is to be compared. The master said, "Never have friends not equal to yourself."

Very good advice to everyone.
