August

August turned out to be a pretty mellow month. We felt like we were pretty used to the routine of our new responsibilities here on the property, the family reunions were over, and we got to just kind of enjoy getting used to living here finally. We discovered just how fun it is to see all the wildlife all the time. We got to see a moose just wandering across the parking lot as we headed out to Bear Lake one evening. It didn't even care that we were there. We also made the final decision to homeschool Cpc this year, so we did a little prep work for that.

We have a couple of birds' nests in our oak tree grove next to the house.
We have a couple peregrine falcons that live somewhere on the property. We see them all the time.
We spent a few nights attending Bees' games with family! I love watching my boys enjoy this sport with their dad!
We see plenty of cool spiders and their amazing webs.
One evening Pmc decided it was time to learn try grading the road with the big tractor. He hadn't been trained very well on it and we didn't know it was not a good idea to drive up the road. So when it stalled on the hill, and there's not really brakes to speak of, he came charging back down the hill backwards. Luckily the kids and I were on the other side of the house, and the only thing he took out was our rock wall by the garden.
See the grove of trees on the right, that's a little gully, he nearly went right down that gully, but was able at the last moment to get the thing turned up that hill to stop. See that big boulder - yeah that was part of the rock wall. Glad no kids were in the parking lot to get hit by that thing flying. We were truly blessed that this situation didn't turn out worse. We had cousins over - and all 6 kids were safe and sound. So was Pmc!
This is the splash pad right by Pmc's work, and a 3 minute drive from our house!

Arc and cousin Mbc are getting to be better friends now that Mbc has learned to walk!
Pmc spent much of the month doing all the little projects I had for him. He created this awesome dress-up shelf and the hooks.

He put in shelves for the kids toy closet.
He also put in shelves for the school closet (only the ones on the right, the ones on the left were built in!).
He didn't like me taking a picture of him to document it though.
Headed to a Bees' game again.
This place is just so darn beautiful! Look at those amazing mountains!
I love this man of mine.
Arc was totally into trying to catch balls. Too bad none came our way!
These cousins LOVED being at the Bees' game together - but I don't think any of them actually watched the game.
We took all those rocks out of the tree grove up there and made the side of the house look much nicer. I forgot about the "before" picture though.
My wildflower seeds started growing in and I am just so happy to have my very own flower garden!
Doesn't that tree grove look nice with no rocks? I know it's hard to tell when there is no before picture. Oh well. It is such a fun play space for the kids now though.
I harvest the lavender that the previous family planted and made little pillow satchels. Oh they smelled so lovely!
For the most part I'm grateful we really don't have rattlesnakes around (at least I'm pretty sure we don't), we've seen a few garter snakes though. But the garter snakes don't do anything for our SERIOUS vole/mouse/rat problem on the property. Because of that, a few rattlesnakes would be nice. However, I'd rather my kids are safe!
Arc is ALWAYS happy in the morning.
The panorama didn't quite line up, but this was the biggest rainbow we have EVER seen. It was so high.
 GAME DAY!!!!!
A visit to the merry-go-round park before the season ends!

This girl is so proud of her potty training feat. We are 2 1/2 weeks in and she still says "yay for Anna" every time. Then she asks for chocolate chips :)

I am grateful today for a sandbox big enough for 7 children to play happily together for over an hour. Cousins are the best! @hittheroadjod

Mastered the woodpile! I may or may not have completely incinerated two tinfoil dinners tonight with my epically hot fire tonight. We love where we live!

Saying Goodbye

Every time my sister Cdee comes into town I just want to eat up every last minute we can with her since our kids are so close. I want them to have those strong relationships with their cousins, like I had with mine when I was little, because they're what got me through my roughest times! They've also brought me the best times of my life (well, until I had my own little family!).

So we kind of drew out the goodbyes. We took pictures at the lake, and then we went up to Uncle Se's cabin to ride their horses and have some more goodbyes!

These kids seriously crack me up. I love the way their personalities shine through in these pictures.
Lmze, Cpc, Cdc, Se, Be, Arc

These two are 3 weeks apart.
These two are 2 months apart. I love how Se is still in the same pose.
 X's
and O's. These two are almost a year apart though - Arc is right between Be and Jde.
I doubt we will ever have blueberry pancakes again after making these Bear Lake Raspberry lemon pancakes. YUM!
Poor Cpc got another hit to the eye - I think he's had more black eyes than we can count.
 Arc's first french braids.
She was terrified of the horse - wouldn't pet it or go near it, but desperately wanted to ride it. Once she was on it she was happy as could be, but she was not keen on the rest of the process. She literally screamed. Good thing we got the gentlest horse.
 Cdc was thrilled to ride.
Can you tell? Somehow we missed getting a picture of Cpc, but he rode like he knew just what he was doing, even though it's been almost 2 years since the last time he rode.
7 kids, 1 tramp. A little crazy - as Arc will testify.

This was the most still we could get them for a picture.
Love these sisters of mine!
