My Favorite Things

So really we have nothing to write about this week, and no pictures. Our exciting week was last week, you know: feeling the baby move, finding out he's a boy! These coming weeks will be a bit more thrilling because I finally get to be focused on my job at Oneity, as I am now the Manager. WHOA! So I decided to steal my friend's idea and tell you about a few of our favorite things!

First, mine!
1- Jane Austen...I know, I'm such a typical girl. But seriously, I love her stories as well as the way she writes them. I love her language, as well as her view of courting/romance! My In-Laws gave me cash for Christmas and I went out and bought a book that has all of her novels, exempting Sanditon/The Brothers. Lately my favorites are Northanger Abbey and Persuasion.
2- Christmas! Seriously, I loved having Christmas as a family this year. It was so fun to have just the two of us (for the first and last time). We woke up and could hardly wait to get out to the Christmas tree and see each other open presents.
3- Music. Like you didn't know....I've been trying to get all our cd's loaded into ITunes lately. It's so fun to listen to a few songs from each cd as the import. I'm grateful to have such a wide taste in music because of the way I was raised.
4- Combine blueberries, chocolate and oranges in any way, I'm in love!
5- My husband and our family!!!!!

pmc's turn....
1- Family. It's good!
2- Golfing, nothing relaxes me better than a round of golf!
3- Dogs, they're good too. No WAIT! Steak and potatoes, they're better than dogs!
4- Children when they're not cranky, or crying, or hitting, or biting, or running, or fighting, or kicking, or lying. (sounds like he's in for trouble with fatherhood huh?)
5- My Favorite Teams: Red Sox, Utes, Jazz, and I'll never outgrow the Pirates. (and the Aggies of course! hehe!)

It's a Boy!

Certainly the highlight of our week was visiting the University Hospital on Thursday afternoon for our first ultrasound of the baby. Let me start of by saying that atec has said since November that she felt that we are having a boy. I thought she was just saying that cause she wanted us to have a boy first, but then shortly after Christmas I had a dream where I delivered the baby, and it was a boy. So even though I didn't really care whether we're having a boy or a girl, from then on I thought it was a boy too. So as we headed in for the ultrasound, all we really cared about was that we were right. As it turns out, we were! We're very excited! (Of course we would have been either way...) And we're also anxious to find out what atec's sister Chelsia is having. It was a big step up towards fatherhood for me. I've said all along that it's hard for me to really feel like I'm about to become a father just because I don't have anything growing inside me. But sitting there watching the images of my son on the screen did bring this a lot closer to reality for me. I feel "pregnant" in that it is beginning to hit home to me. Ok, so that probably didn't make sense, oh well.

Other than that, nothing really big has happened to us this week. I'm settling into school, and really finding it nice to only have classes four days a week. It's especially nice on weeks like this upcoming one because now I have a nice, short three-day school week.

Atec is still a bit overwhelmed and stressed out by all of the things she has going. Although it's been nice to have her nannying out in Daybreak, it will be even nicer to have that finished at the end of this month. I know she's looking forward to that.

I really don't have anything else to write about, so I'll spend some time setting up another opinion poll over on the left, so please vote!!! (Don't worry, this this is NOT another Presidential primary OR caucus.)

ATEC here! I just wanted to post a cute picture of my niece in some of the clothes from my store: ONEITY (It's a combination of the words One and Unity). So, for all of you who have kids, these are way cute clothes, very decent prices, high quality, handmade, and meant to help the economy of third-world countries. Check out the website link on the left, let me know if you have any questions. And if you live out-of-town, still check it out because you can order online!

Work, Work, Work

Despite the desire to be done nannying, I was back at work this week. Don't get me wrong, I love the girls I nanny, I'm just totally ready to have a break before I have my own baby! Besides that, working four jobs (nannying, clothing store, teaching violin, quartet gigs) isn't what I call fun. Currently I'm scheduled working all five days during the week....yeah, I know, most people do it! I'm just not the type of person who loves homemaking when I work every day. Luckily I only have the nanny job until the end of January. Then I work four days a week, but they're shorter shifts, and only a 10-minute walk from home!

I know that technically school isn't "work," but pmc was back at it this week as well! He had a good 4-day week of classes (with Fridays off!). So now with work and school again he's got a load.

The other thing is, like we said, we changed our minds about moving. So in order to make things work here in this apartment, we did some rearranging. Somehow we added an entertainment center (which pmc built for us) and an extra bookshelf, and still found an arrangement that opens up our space a little more.

Last year we got a discount on our rent for painting our apartment, but never finished the baseboards. Well, our rearranging forced us to finally get to that project. We spent yesterday sanding the baseboards (using pmc's new motorized sander), and there was so much dust in the air, we couldn't get very clear pictures! The fun part was that although we spent the entire day cleaning and sanding, we blasted music and really enjoyed ourselves!

Anyway, though it felt like all we did this week was work, we had fun doing so! It always feels good to end the week knowing we accomplished a lot.

One Solid Happy Year for Us! (then back to school...)

Well, I'm back from my hiatus. Even though I hadn't planned on it, I somehow just procrastinated blogging through the entire holiday season, but I'm back now and better than ever.
I feel so good and even a little excited to return to school tomorrow. I think the difference now is that for the first time in my life I feel like I know what I'm going for. Still, I can't help feeling a little bit worried though that in a couple of months I will have changed my mind again. I don't know what's kept me from deciding what I want to do for a career, but this time I really do feel committed to going to law school. That means I can feel good about it for precisely 3 more months, and then I'll have to go crazy getting ready to take the LSAT and figuring out WHERE to go. Here's hoping that I get to that point without changing my mind.
Speaking of changing minds, we have. A week ago we wrote about our plan to move into a bigger apartment in February. Now we're staying where we're at and we don't know how long it will be for. Atec and I feel that we just need to save a little more money for as long as we can. Although we could handle a bigger rent payment, it's better to do with less space for now, and we'll re-evaluate it again in a few more months.
Our excitement for the arrival of our baby continues to grow. We have another appointment tomorrow, and we're hoping for an ultrasound (though it's likely still too early to find out the sex of the baby.) The doctor didn't say anything about doing one, but we've heard from lots of people that it's not too early. So we'll see how it goes tomorrow.
Our New Year's Eve was hardly spectacular. We neglected making plans with anyone, so we wound up alone at our apartment, which I think was fine with both of us anyway, which is probably the reason neither of us tried making plans. About 11:00, atec was reading Jane Austen on the sofa, so I wandered into our landlord's entertainment room and started playing the Wii they got for Christmas. I lost track of time, and at 12:30 I went back into our side of the basement to find that atec fell asleep. So we wished each other Happy New Year and headed off to bed without a single toast of sparkling cider. (By the way, atec and I are pleasantly surprised by the enjoyment we get from playing th Wii. Here's a picture of us bowling!)Even though New Year's was overlooked, we had a great time last week celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary. We had a nice dinner together at the Roof in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. It has been a fantastic year, and we're both still so happy. In fact, we're even happier because our love has grown as we have grown together this year.
