2014 Graduation/Last Day of School

Wednesday, 28 May, was Timpview High School graduation at UVU. The family gathered to hear Madeline sing with the A Cappella Choir and to watch her graduate.  Friday, 30 May, was the annual dance festival at Wasatch School. Kris, Katy, and I watched Lizzy, Meg, and Ollie perform with their classes. It is such a fun way to end the school year. Thanks to Emily for some of the photos.

Since New York

There have been a few notable events since we returned from New York mid May. After having just been with the NY Gibbs, it was great to be able to visit with Chelsea who was in Provo on a break from school. We and the Colvers ordered take-away from the Bombay House. What is left of the Dinner Group went to the Brazilian restaurant/bakery for dinner. The feijoada was delicious and their desserts are spectacular. Since Katy no longer works full time, we have been working on her London scrapbook from when she visited after her mission. It's a fun creative exercise that we both enjoy. On a recent morning walk with Uncle, I photographed Quad Seven at Wymount Terrace where we lived when Emily was born. It will be torn down shortly to make way for a new BYU laundry and service building. The current version of which will be torn down to make space for the MTC expansion -- that's what "hastening" looks like on the ground. Katy did family dinner here on Sunday and I got all inspired to make Marks and Spencer's Chocolate Chunk Shortbread Cookies.

Yesterday was Memorial Day and the family gathered here before proceeding to the cemetery where we did the usual drill. I was the only representative of my generation and it was thought that a solo photo was in order. To my delight, several suggested a selfie (Oxford Dictionary's word of the year, btw).  It was so bright that I couldn't see anything in the phone screen, so Katy Kathryn staged it for me. It was all splendid. Speaking of KK, she arranged a lovely tribute for Uncle Tony shown below. Unlike most Memorial Days, everyone went their separate ways for lunch and then met again in the evening for a special fĂȘte for Maria Magdelena, who will soon be a high-school graduate.

New York Day Eight

On our last day in New York, Linda took us back to Scarsdale to pick up some treats at the bakery. DSDG and KBT also found some stuff to purchase in an intriguing shop there. We drove to Rye where Anna was a nanny oh so many years ago. Stopping by Playland, I discovered that it seemed much more vibrant and alive than it did when we visited with Anna. We met Michael for lunch at Stanz in Larchmont before returning home to finish packing. The trip to Laguardia provided a good view of the city from the Whitestone Bridge, and as we taxied for take off, I caught the final glimpse of NYC.

We acquired a few Sarah Bernhards here

We had a great time; the NY Gibbs were so kind and generous. This trip will be a dear memory. Thank you Mike, Linda, and Graham. We love you.

The excitement is over until the family begins to gather for summer fun. That's all for now.

Post Script: This photo texted from Linda with the caption, "Where's David?"

That's where I sat, blogged, birdwatched, and refreshed my spirit --
I love that room!
