Sunday Soundbite

The lesson on Sunday, November 1st included the following quote from President Thomas S. Monson "If we do not have a deep foundation of faith and a solid testimony of truth, we may have difficulty withstanding the harsh storms and icy winds of adversity which inevitably come to each of us. Morality is a period of testing, a time to prove ourselves worthy to return to the presence of our Heavenly Father. In order for us to be tested, we must face challenges and difficulties. These can break us, and the surface of our souls may crack and crumble-that is, if our foundation of faith, our testimonies of truth are not deeply embedded within us."

The lesson on Sunday, October 18th will be from the Teaching of Presidents of the Church; Ezra Taft Benson/Chapter 20: "Feed My Sheep." One of the quotes from this lesson is, " As we discuss the concept of a true shepherd, we recognize that the Lord has given this responsibility to priesthood holders. But sisters also have callings of “shepherding” in the charitable and loving service they render to one another, and to others. Thus, we must all learn to be true shepherds. We must manifest the same love to others that the Good Shepherd has for all of us. Each soul is precious to Him. His invitation beckons every member—every son and daughter of God."

The lesson on Sunday, October 11th will be from the Teaching of Presidents of the Church; Ezra Taft Benson/Chapter 19: "Leadership." One of the quotes from this lesson is, "If you are to provide future leadership for the Church, [your] country, and your own homes, you must stand firm in the faith, unwavering in the face of evil."

"In the Church today a leader generally gets in performance what he truly expects. He needs to think tall. He should assure those to whom he gives assignments that in the service of the Lord they have even greater powers than in ordinary responsibilities. There can be no failure in the work of the Lord when [we] do [our] best. We are but instruments; this is the Lord’s work. This is His church, His gospel plan. These are His children we are working with. He will not permit us to fail if we do our part. He will magnify us even beyond our own talents and abilities when necessary. This I know."

The lesson on Sunday, September 6th will be from Teaching of Presidents of the Church; Ezra Taft Benson/Chapter 17: "Keeping the Law of Chastity." Two of the quotes from this lesson is, "Chastity is a godly character trait. We build it by controlling our thoughts, and being mindful of the sanctity of our own body and the sanctity of everyone else’s body. We want to become like God, and to do so we have to learn to think and act like him. Having a body is a tremendous privilege and advantage. If we want to maintain both, we have to be worthy of God’s blessings and approval. Those who will continue on to become pure as Christ is pure will, of necessity, learn how to think virtuous thoughts and behave modestly"
and, "For those who pay the price required by true repentance, the promise is sure. You can be clean again. The despair can be lifted. The sweet peace of forgiveness will flow into your lives. In this dispensation the Lord spoke with clarity when he said, “Behold, he who has repented of his sins, the same is forgiven, and I, the Lord, remember them no more” (D&C 58:42)."

The lesson on Sunday, August 23rd will be from the April 2015 General Conference talk titled, "Preserving Agency, Protecting Religious Freedom." One of the quotes from this lesson is, "As disciples of Jesus Christ we have a responsibility to work together with like-minded believers, to raise our voices for what is right. While members should never claim or even imply that they are speaking for the Church, we are invited, in our capacity as citizens, to share our personal witness with conviction and love-"every man [and woman] according to his [or her own] mind."
