~Pics of My Furkids~

I wanted to share some pictures of my 3 furkids. The first furkid is Neko. He has been with us for about 5 years. He was dropped off along with his 2 litter mates and mom. Then one day his family disappeared leaving him behind. He hung around our house for a while. I tried on numerous occasions to catch him but he wouldn't give in. So I took it one day at a time until I could feed him by hand. It took about a couple of months before I earned his trust. I'll never forget the day we brought him inside. It was in early November and it was raining. My son was home from school sick. All he could do is worry about the poor kitty getting wet. So I told him to get some rest and we would talk more when he woke up. While he was sleeping., I went outside in the pouring down rain to get the kitten. He actually let me pick him up. Brought him in the house and took him to my sons room and placed him in bed beside my son. Neko must of been about 12 weeks old. Thats how I came to get him.

Neko
My second furkid is Pandora. She came from the newspaper ads under Free Kittens. When  my daughter Julie and I arrived to choose a kitten. Julie and I only had 3 kittens to choose from. There were 2 black ones and one yellow tabby. We pretty much left her pick us. Being in such a hurry to get her .We forgot our cat carrier. So the woman had a tomato box with its lid. So we punched holes all over the box and placed her in it. Before we left the woman told me that she called her Pandora. We planned on changing her name anyways to Jinx. Well on the way home , She kept trying to get out of the box. Then I said Pandora really  wants out of that box. Well we joked around about the Pandora and box myth for a while. Then my daughter said Lets keep her name Pandora. So we did. Pandora has been with us for 2 years.
Pandora
My last furkid is Autumn. She was a feral kitten. It took my sister and I three very long days to catch her.  I'll never forget that day. It was a cold day in September 2010. She kept hiding under a building everytime we went near her. So we sat a live trap and that didn't work. So we finally decided to trap her in the building. We actually had to net her to catch her. I felt so bad doing that but I really wanted her and she deserved to be in a home where someone loved. Since we caught her, the owner of the property paid to have her spayed and her shots. So it has been a  journey with her. She still is shy  and some what timid but she is slowly coming around.Autumn has been with us 5 months. She was only about 3 moths old when she came to us.

~Sundays Supper Surprise~

My hubby,Doug gave me a grocery list of things that he needed to make a surprise Supper on Sunday. He wouldn't tell me what he was making but I only knew some of the ingredients.I went and got all the ingredients on my list Friday. So Sunday finally rolls around. It was around noon and  I was told I was not allowed in the kitchen until it was time to eat. I had no problem with that. He recruited 2 of our 3 teens to help prepare the meal. Well about 3 hours later. He called me up for supper. Was I ever impressed. There on my plate was this juicy, tender chicken with potatoes, carrots, celery and onions. I asked what it was and he still wouldn't tell me. I had to wait til supper was over for him to tell me. Let me tell you. This was an awesome meal. I am really impressed with this meal. I actually made him promise to make it again soon. He finally told me it was 40 Clove Garlic Chicken.I would of never thought that.. It didn't have a strong taste of garlic at all. With 40 Clove Garlic in its name. You would of thought it would of. I wish I had a picture to show you how good it looked but he didn't think to take one. I did get a pic of dessert that I made that morning. We have a new tradition on Sundays now. ~Blog Makeover~

Just thought I would make my blog feel a little bit more primitive. The last background I had was nice but it was just too shabby chic for me. I'm a primitive kind of gal. I hope you enjoy the new look. I know I do.

~Taco Soup~

I would like to share one of my family's favorite recipe with everyone.I hope you enjoy it. Instead of putting ours in dutch oven. I cooked ours in a crock pot.. The recipe says to use 3-4 oz cans of green chillies. I just use 1-7 oz can instead. I use Walmart brand . Its taste the same to me and it saves money.  If you dont have any ground beef. You use a roast or any piece of beef and chop it up in  food processor (if you have one) and use that instead..  I imagine this also would taste good with ground turkey. I'll have to try that next time. I hope you enjoy it!

Taco Soup

1 small onion, chopped
2 pounds lean ground beef (90% lean)
1-1/2 cups water
3 cans (14-1/2 ounces each)  Stewed Tomatoes
1 can (16 ounces) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (16 ounces) lima beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (15 ounces) pinto beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) hominy, drained
3 cans (4 ounces each) chopped green chilies
1 envelope taco seasoning
1 envelope ranch salad dressing mix
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
Shredded cheddar cheese, optional
Tortilla chips, optional
Sour Cream, opitional

Directions:
In a large Dutch oven, cook beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain.Stir in the next 11 ingredients; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Garnish with cheese and sour cream and serve with chips if desired. Yield: 10 servings

Just a suggestion that I have tried. Instead of using 1-1/2 cup water. I didnt drain and rinse the beans like the recipe called for. I used the juice from the beans instead of water. It made the broth a little thicker and it was so watery.

Enjoy....Patti

Two Became One

I have been having a hard time trying to get a feel for what to put on my bookcase shelf. So as I was going through somethings that I pulled out of storage. I began to place things on the shelf that I liked but something still felt like it was missing. So I took my small plate off the shelf and laid it on this metal plate that use to be gold( Got it at the Salvation Army for 25 cents) but I just painted it burgundy a couple days before hand. I wasn't even thinking about iit when I placed the smaller plate on it. When I came back into the room and looked at them, It was like they were meant to be. So I hot glued them together and place it on my shelf and it was the missing piece I was looking for. So that is how two became one.

Thrift Store Findings

Hubby's mugs he found

I just wanted to share some items I found at the Salvation Army today. Can you believe Hubby actually wanted to go. He is usually like "Ill take you but I'm not going in". Today he actually wanted to go in.I was surprised. Can you believe he had items in his hands before I did. That is a rare occasion. He found these really nice black hexagon shaped mugs. He was like their only 15 cents a piece. I just laugh and went on my way looking for some goodies of my own. I think I made out pretty good. Picnic basket is my favorite. It was only $4.00. I figured I would get some spring things since I don't have many spring items to sit around. Some of the items are gonna get a prim make over. So I'll make to sure to post as soon as I get them done.
