March Madness 2014

BASKETBALL, basketball, GOLF, basketball, BASKETBALL, track.....

We put a new meaning to MARCH MADNESS!

Olivia has been released to do minimal physical activities, thus she has joined the Preston High School gold team!  Yep, first she introduces to our family soccer, and now golf.  Can you just say CLUELESS!!!  It is a good thing that my good friend is Preston's golf pro's wife.  Liv quickly has developed a love/hate relationship with the sport of golf.  She has literally golfed in a blizzard, come home with a sunburn, smiled with triumph, thrown her clubs in frustration!  Give a perfectionist golf clubs and do not tell them "you need to lower your expectations of yourself", because yes, she took that as an insult and is ready to prove to everyone that she can be amazing!  She has been a member of the golf team for four weeks and has golfed three tournaments in that time, granted she hadn't picked up a club until the first day of practice March 5th.  She is determined that she will get under 100 on 18 holes.  To this point she has earned a 70 (on 9 holes), 123 and 117 (on 18 holes). Even after getting her wisdom teeth out Friday she has been in the back yard practicing her swing.  You go girl!

Shaylee is playing some serious basketball with Elite right now and has also joined the PJHS track team.  During the month of March she played in 16 ball games between her Smithfield League, the AAU State tournament in South Jordan, and the AAU tournament in Twin Falls.  Not quite as many games as we have had in the past with her, but still plenty.  She will finish up the Smithfield tournament the second week of April, and then she has a monthly tournament with Elite in April, May, and June, then comes school ball for the HIGH SCHOOL!  Track meets start the second week of April as well.  She hasn't narrowed down what events she wants to try, but she has listed what she doesn't want to try:  1600 and 3200.  She says there is no way she is running that far!  Hmmm, I wonder where that puts her for cross country this fall?

Taite is finishing out a basketball league in Smithfield as well.  Their tournament will be the second week of April then basketball will wind down for him.

AHHH, whoever named March Madness I am sure had no idea just how much madness there really can be!

Arrow of Light

Through lots of hard work, dedicated scout leaders, and a great dad that can help with scouts, Taite has earned his Arrow of Light award in cub scouts and is ready to move on to boy scouts when he turns 11 in two weeks.  He is excited to move on and join boy scouts with his dad as his leader.  Nice job bud, way to work hard!

National Junior Honor Society

Shaylee has met one of her goals this year of getting good grades.  Not only has she earned good grades, she has done amazing getting almost straight A's all year!  Tonight she was inducted into the National Junior High Honor Society along with many of her friends.  I know it hasn't been easy for her, and I am super proud of her determination to do a great job.  I also appreciate her using her 10 hour service project to help me with learning groups for my classroom.  Nice work, girl.  We are super proud of you!

Happy 14

Shaylee has finally reached the coveted age of 14.  She has been waiting for 2 years to be 14 since "that is when Olivia got her cell phone".  She was pretty set on getting a phone for her birthday.  Sadly, she did not get one on her birthday, instead she got to play basketball in South Jordan for the second year in a row.  We had to put her birthday on hold for a couple of days to get basketball out of the way.  Saturday I had the privilege of taking her shopping.  I really think if money wasn't an option she could outshop anyone!  We had a great day together shopping, eating lunch at Olive Garden, and visiting.  Then on Sunday we celebrated with a steak dinner and birthday cake.  Finally, on Sunday night Dave and Shaylee ordered her phone.  Happiness came in a small package with a big price tag this year.  I hope 14 treats her well!

Liv Update

No surgery!  What a relief!  Liv's tendon is healing on its own and will not require surgery.  She will transfer out of her book this week and continue physical therapy through the month of March and on the downside will not be able to play spring soccer.  Yep, that's a smiley for no surgery, frowny for no soccer!

Basketball Update

The most recent basketball leagues and experiences have now ended for Taite and Shaylee.  Taite's team finished on a happy note, even though they lost the game that would carry them into the championships.  At moments it was close, but in the end they went home with the cupcake (which is what I wish it was still all about).  Shaylee's junior high experience has now ended as well.  They didn't end up placing in the top two in the tournament, but they sure had fun trying.  Up next?  We will keep you posted.
