in the blink of an eye

...and before we know it, another week has passed and we're almost at the end of the first month of the new year! Soon it'll be Chinese New Year, the new uni term in Australia will be starting, our small engagement ceremony, the trip to Perth for graduation... Time will pass even if we just stand still, and i think we do need constant checks to review how we're using our time and our life. Are we keeping step with the Spirit each day? Are we investing in worthwhile treasures as opposed to temporary ones? Can't help but thinking how applicable the phrase "Too busy not to pray" is, especially in the Singapore context.

Another retreat

Going to Bintan for Agapella retreat early tomorrow morning... The rest are already there, enjoying their free day before the 'work' starts tomorrow :P (including workshops on how to sing the right way, how to move, and how to sing the right note ;) Looking forward to it!! May it be a fruitful time of fellowship, bonding, and blending!

Almost at the end of my second week back to work at the DAS.. and realizing that i’m not used to the usual Singapore working hours :P For my last placement in Perth, the hours were 9 to 5, five days a week, and even with the 40-minute drive each way to and from work, it wasn’t quite so taxing as now. Plus I’ve been on holiday for the last two months so that doesn’t help! Still, on the whole, think i’m glad to be back at work and gainfully employed and trying to make a difference in the lives of these kids and parents we see, although still working out my new responsibilities here.

Besides adjusting to working life again, there’s also the excitement of beginning wedding preparations :) (isn’t that the day almost every girl dreams of?) so sometimes that makes it difficult to concentrate at work :P The date is August 18 (overseas friends take note!) and we've just started to look into things such as hotel booking for the dinner, plus some other aspects as well. As much as the wedding itself will require much preparation and planning, do pray for us and help to remind us not to prepare for just the wedding, but more importantly, the commitment we are going to make in the marriage itself : )

New Beginnings

The new year started off in a rather relaxed and contemplative mode at the young adults retreat. Was real glad for the time of fellowship and games, as well as for the chance to start the year off right by committing it to the Lord. The time spent away from busy city life and closer to nature was a good reminder of the importance of taking time out to spend with God each day, and not get caught up in life's busyness and therefore lose focus as a result.

Was a good end to my extended holiday and period of unemployment before i started work again at the Dyslexia Association on Wednesday. Thankful for the Lord's provision of this job. Even though i was considering whether to take up the position or see what else might come up, in the end i realise that there is no perfect job, and that wherever we work can be used as a chance to serve. It's great being back in a familiar environment, and having friends as colleagues :) Although we're keeping our fingers crossed for some who might leave soon for further studies, i look forward to developing my skills further in this job, as well as contributing to the organisation and helping the kids who cross our path.

Blessed New Year to all!! =)
