Hey guys,
about cell on Friday, I wrote over 7 pages worth of notes. As a gauge, my weekly Sunday Sermon notes last no more then 2 pages. And so... in an attempt to feed you with everything that I was fed with - which was overwhelming - this is going to be excruciatingly long, messy and probably be rather incongruent. Here goes...
Are we people of integrity? That is to say, we stick to our faith (our belief) and not sway from it? If we say we're Christians, yet we don't abide by the Word wholly, then where is our integrity?
When we say something is a personal choice, we dethrone God. We're saying, it's my choice, my decision, my life, God can mind His own business. We come to this world with nothing to give, but humility. Pride is what stands between us and God.
In Malachi, we read of a society that cannot differentiate between right and wrong. It was a society where evil prospers and we are often pushed to wonder why? Why do we try to do right when the world is letting the evil win? But when we ask such a question, we forget that we're not of this world! We don't have to feel comfortable in a place that is not our own home. "...whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things." (Philippians 4:8) Focus on what is beautiful and remember that the devil has already been defeated.
Bearing a fear of losing our faith keeps us from being complacent.
We always tell people not to be judgemental because we know that we are going to be judged. (Hebrews 9:27)
When one encounters God, the first reaction is to feel fear, afterwhich, comfort.
We need to be sure of our faith and our salvation. One test is by our relationship with God - what is the degree of our intimacy? With that, we need to then, live out our lives according to God's plans. We don't create and devise things to do for God's kingdom but we find out what God has planned and act upon it. We have to aim not to miss out on God's plan.
1 Cor 3:14
There are 2 things we need to do to fulfil God's plan. 1 to defend, 2 to build - just as Nehemiah did. Our job is to find out what materials has God given us: Why do we do it? How do we do it? God will reveal our motives just as fire will test the sturdiness of the materials. Read 1 Cor 3:10-15.
Our walk is like the Isaiah 6 model.

ConvictionHumility: "Woe is me" cried Isaiah. We can't serve God if we don't undersand holiness/sacredness. Even Isaiah, the great prophet understood his guilt, how more we should!

Your call:
1. High Call: 1st priority. A must, no matter how your other priorities change with time, your higher calling remains.
a) General Mandate (Mark 16) - the general call for all men to be saved and to believe and make disciples
b) Specific Mandate - where God tells you directly of your purpose.
2. Holy Call: 2 Tim 1:9
Root Word of Holy is to be "whole". God says to be holy, because He is holy. He says so because he knows that we are not whole but broken, and thus, he calls us into communion with him to become whole! God's interested in your heart, and not in bullying you into submission.

Psalm 68
NIV omitted the phrase "women" to appease the patriachal society, but is found in KJV. God is interested in alleviating the oppressed, thus the mention of women. God is a God of equal opportunity.
1. "Cursed is the man who gives way to evil"
- not just doing wrong, but also to not speak up when you see wrong being done! You'll be cursed for keeping silent! Because when someone insults your loved one, you wouldn't keep silent about it, so how much more we should speak up for God and His righteousness if we truly love God!
The 2 roles that Satan takes up is to 1. Stop you from confessing Jesus is Lord; 2. If you have confessed, then he'll hinder you reaching your destiny.
2. Join us, you'll suffer.
You will suffer anyhow. It's a matter of whether you want to be a slave to the devil, or to your Creator.
Phil 3:10 talks about a fellowship of a suffering. Even when others around you suffer, you hurt too - that's what it means to be in a fellowship.
God does not have favourites but he has intimates.
We live in a world of lawlessness, where everyone is hedonistic.
A patriot is one who is willing to die for their passion, a mercenary will do anything to get what he wants but will leave when he sense danger.
Christian paradox: 1 Cor 6:10, miserable yet joyful; having nothing yet possessing everything.
Even when I'm "bad", I can still make an impact because Christ is able to work apart and aside from me.
Passions can be for good when your purpose is good; they can be bad when your motives are wrong. When we are passionate for Christ, it will be reflected in our lifestyles. Others will be drawn to us because we are passionate, and our job is to help them realise that our passion is from God.
Judges 5 Song of Deborah
Praise was given to God when Deborah saw that people were finally willing to take up responsibilities and quit being complacent.
CS Lewis spoke about eros love as needing naked bodies, while fellowship requires naked personalities. We endear people by our very persons.
"Many are called, few are chosen." Matt 22:14
Everyone is called but you need to be able to outlast. Gideon's army reduced to a mere 300, because God rejected 2 types of people.
1. Those who lacked courage and trust in God
2. Those who weren't watchful and alertly guarding themselves, their faith
God says this is what I have done, much more will you do. It is a prophecy and promise that we can too perform miraculous signs, and to which God says we will do more than he (Jesus) has done!
In the case of Gideon's army, it was 300 vs 135000. God likes to make the odds horrible for us so that the end glory goes to Him. He wants us to trust in Him, in His character. Even when the odds are against us, we must trust in His very being and that takes an abandonment of self.
The gifts of the spirit and the fruit of the spirit has to work hand in hand.
The Word without the Spirit is dead. The Spirit without the Word is bimbotic. There has to be a balance between rigid
Presbyterian-ism and gregarious
Charismatic-ism. We need to
exploit our faith: in the sense of using our gifts to the fullest.
1. To those who lack courage
Faith is a fight. We fight to keep our faith because we know the devil is trying to take it away. He who sacrifices thanks offerings honours Him. Sacrificing is when we are sulking and depressed and yet we praise and thank God. Paul was a good example that when we offer our praise and thanks, we are delivered from depression and sulking. Paul was in prison when he gave thanks and the gates opened. As with Jonah, it was right when he offer praise in the fish that he was spat out. God offers deliverance when you give thanks!
2. To those who lack watchfulness
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith..."
When the devil can't abort you, he'll stop you from finishing the race.
Completion is the key! Chart off things that spirals you down. When your thoughts are chaotic, clear them! Chaos is of the devil! God is lucid! Very often, the stronger a Christian you are, the weaker you feel. Our faith must not depend on feelings.

None of our books (of life) are closed. As long as we're alive, we have hope. "Work in the day, for when the night falls, you can work no longer." If God tells you to do something, do it! Don't wait.
3 things about life will apply to everyone. 1. Life 2. Death 3. Exams.
fill in *laughter*Our final most important exam is when we stand before God in judgement. Will you pass? Will God say, well done, my good and faithful servant? Or will he say I never knew you? Fear the latter! Jealously guard your faith against the Destiny Destroyer. He plants disappointment in our lives. He gives us the Spirit of Poverty - of disbelief that God is going to love or save you anymore. He plays the tape that says, "I'm not good enough." on repeat mode and destroys our spirit. Be watchful and beware! We are never good enough, we will never be! But God is good. He is more than "good enough". It His by Him, that we can do what we do. Through Him, you can do ALL THINGS!
And I ended my notes with "Know your vision, run the race, finish in first place." - which wasn't what Li-ann said but what I came up with at the end. :D
