day 1 of 5 - troy and abed in the morning
since i skipped work yesterday, today was day 1 instead of 2. the day got off to a confusing start with half the gynae team starting on ward rounds without us residents. and then i found out that A swapped with P so P (the mean reg) was in theatre in the morning. D: immediately ran off to theatre to try and see (all) the patients before the list started. no such luck, only managed to see 2 (out of 4).
thankfully, there was only one LUSCS (for placenta praevia and transverse lie) and 3 D&Cs. and M, the GP doing an advanced dip obs, was in theatre too, so i didn't end up scrubbing in at all. which suits me just fine. think the lady with the placenta praevia had at least 1.5L of blood loss. not fun.
went for clinic in the afternoon. think there were like 5 doctors in clinic this afternoon because P and C were there too. not sure why, because they were meant to be in theatre, hmm. either way that was a good thing. saw 5 patients who were well. did some discharge summaries. hassled the urology reg once again to see my gynae patient. handed over and came home.
cooked dinner, showered, had dinner, watched community, watched masterchef with the cat on the sofa beside me. only just started watching season 3 of community, and it's still as weird as ever (i gave up watching it after season 2 because i thought it was too weird).
tomorrow i'm only in clinic in the arvo, which means i start work at 1.30pm. am contemplating going to the city earlier to get my film developed hmm. if i can make myself get out of the house early, ha.
have also decided to make macarons this week! :) which i guess means i will be going to lg. maybe. or maybe not, hmm. anyway, will be trying out this recipe for
lemon-lime macarons. hopefully i will be able to work out how to use my kitchenaid (read: hopefully i will not be too lazy to read the manual) and not end up using my hand held mixer instead. ;p
happy eleventh! :)

eleven;
we will have been engaged for four months tomorrow. and we will have been together for eleven. one of the things i have struggled with since becoming engaged was publicly celebrating monthsaries. because we had only been together for seven months before we got engaged, i always felt that people would judge us for it, and i avoided drawing attention to the fact. though of course it would probably only be the unimportant people who would judge; the important people never did, except maybe sebas haha.
so anyway, we will turn eleven months tomorrow. :) and i couldn't be more thankful. :) and this sunday we're going to watch Wicked yay!
***
that aside, i set my alarms for 4.45 and 4.50am this morning but my phone decided to turn itself off during the night, so the alarms never went off. j woke me up at 6.20am, saying "you're still here." and i freaked out. wouldn't have been able to get to work on time (7.30am), so i ended up calling in sick, ha. was also secretly relieved at not having to work with a certain mean reg today. double yay.
watched some shows, had brunch (leftovers from dinner last night at kitchen inn), made the beds, and left a note for j before leaving.
went to coles to get food (including yoghurt!), then dropped by tae's place to pick up my FedEx package - which turned out to be the watch. it's really big though. i hope j likes it.
the cat has been extremely sticky since i came back. even as i type this he is lying on top of me with his head resting on my left hand.
can't wait for j's last week to end. he's going to bring me some sashimi yay! ;p

hello from sydney;
it has been a lovely three days away. i hope no one at work asks me what i learnt.
thursday
finished clinic at 11.30am and went home after texting amna for handover. had lunch, showered, fed and watered the cat, then drove back to melbourne. asked tae to drop by my place to pick up the FedEx package so it wouldn't sit outside for the whole weekend.
met j at home and we drove to the airport. the flight was slightly delayed. got to sydney, rented a car (a white micra) and drove to the accommodation. was too tired to do anything else, slept.
friday
went to the sydney olympic park for day 1 of GPCE. went for a seminar about infections in childhood, then went for 2 suturing workshops. didn't go back for the third because the last bit of the second one already went over our heads. walked around the exhibits and got free pens between workshops. left after lunch.
had more food at the sydney fish market - sashimi, fish and chips, soft shell crab, prawns. was really sad that the only soy sauce they had had wasabi mixed in it. :( went to bondi beach after that to walk around. met a fat kitty there. :) it was lovely beach weather too.
went home to rest after that. took a nap and then went out again at 10pm for a hot dog at harry's cafe de wheels in woolloomooloo. i remember the area to be really pretty but we couldn't see much at night. the hot dog was nice though. went to take photos of the harbour bridge and luna park after that from across the river, since vivid sydney was on (something like white night, i think).
oh and we applied for a bto again, though there is talk about an ec instead.
saturday
went back to the sydney olympic park for day 2 of GPCE. sat through a talk about dairy and diabetes, which was quite informative. eat more dairy, people. it reduces your risk of cardiovascular disease.
j was too sleepy after that so we just left haha. went to the blue mountains! wentworth falls first, then leura, then katoomba and scenic world. took the train on the steepest railway in the world three times haha. i was disappointed by the lack of bratwurst everywhere. went to echo point to see the three sisters close up.
was supposed to have dinner at hurricane grill but we cancelled the booking. went home and had indomie instead, ha. because j insisted on buying indomie on our first night here. did the laundry and watched suits.
sunday
slept in this morning (considering we slept at like 9pm last night). checked out at 9+, then went to rozelle market, which wasn't very good. nearly wanted to just eat in rozelle, but we decided to still drive over to alexandria. was really glad we did too, because the grounds of alexandria is officially my new favourite place in sydney.
wanted to eat in the cafe initially but the wait was 1.5 hours long, so we decided to just get takeaway instead. had a bacon and egg roll, bbq roast chicken roll, beer battered fries, and a mango mulch (smoothie). yum. there was also a shop in the back called salt meats cheese, which is amazing. would have bought a lot of things if i actually lived in sydney. will definitely go back, preferably on a weekday. too many people on a sunday.
didn't really have anything planned after that. drove to maroubra beach to just slack in the car/ watch suits for a while. went for a short walk along the beach and then down a side street trying to find some ice cream. found a little gelato shop called geloveto and had some there.
came to the airport early because j didn't want to be late.
have just been reminded that i should probably apply for other jobs in case my GP application doesn't work out, ugh. job applications are such a pain. :( can i take ten thousand years off pleaseee.

day 6 of 7
went on the gynae ward round this morning. then saw 4 patients in clinic, without really having to talk to evil reg much. the boss was nice, haven't worked with him before. sent the afternoon gynae resident a quick handover and then came home. half days are good.
watched masterchef and caught up to the current episode, which means i can start watching it on tv now! :D that was why i bought the tv in the first place haha.
sometimes i feel like the dinosaur in the picture book "all my friends are dead." except that they're not dead, they're just all gone. still, i am thankful for friends who tell me things like "her lemon meringue tart looks like mashed potato." ;p
i've always felt like this year was a transition year of sorts, but i'm not quite sure into what. it used to feel like home, but doesn't anymore. and i keep getting annoyed by the things people do, and how everything has to be kept top secret from everyone else. been getting annoyed by everything lately. no, i do not want to know about your new/old bread, please take your private conversations out of whatsapp group chats.
anyway. washed the dishes, vacuumed the floor, packed for sydney. loaded my old polaroid onestep. watched masterchef on tv (!!!) with the cat on the sofa beside me. :) masterchef was the whole reason i got the tv in the first place haha.
only a few more hours of work tomorrow and we're off to sydney! no idea what to do there now that i don't have to queue at zumbo's anymore.

day 5 of 7. 2 to go!
happy birthday opi! :)
worked in birth suite from friday to sunday. it was really quite busy over the weekend, i was so glad when it was over.
am now doing my first PCC/OT (pregnancy care clinic/ operating theatre) week, and it seems like a good week. i'm in clinic every morning and in theatre mon and tues afternoons. clinic is pretty good, not too busy, and i've always liked the satisfaction of finding the foetal heartbeat, even though it often takes a while with the smaller (younger) bubs.
didn't have to do much in yesterday's theatre list, but it was quite interesting because the woman ended up having an anterior resection for endometriosis. today we did a caesar and a diagnostic lap + d&c. then a manual removal of placenta was added to our list (while a cat 1 caesar happened next door).
was really annoyed with the reg i was working with today. so unreasonable and rude. -.- he kept commenting that i wasn't being "proactive" enough in theatre because i could not preempt what he wanted me to do, when it was my first time in theatre with him. i've assisted with caesars with at least ten different people and everyone does things differently, so i've learnt to just do what i'm told to avoid getting scolded for doing something they didn't like. just tell me what you want me to do so i can do it! i can't read your mind. -.- unfortunately i have to work with him in clinic tomorrow. i hope my patients are all simple so i don't have to talk to him.
it's quite interesting to see the same politics in geelong that i saw in shep. one o&g consultant decides on something, the consultant who's on the next day decides that that is stupid and makes a different plan.
am so glad to only be working half days for the next couple of days! only clinic, no OT. and then we're going to sydney! the weather looks good. but we haven't quite planned anything yet hmm.
went to a thai restaurant (?arani) for dinner with tae yesterday after work. the food was pretty good. coconut rice always wins.
i think becky has gained weight. he feels really heavy to pick up, but i'm not sure if that's just because i've been carrying tiny cats back in sg last week.

day 2 of 6.
went to have lunch with zhilin and zepeng at relish by wild rocket. had the char siew burger but it actually didn't taste as good as i remembered, hmm. collected stuff for ivy too. was nice seeing them again. asked zepeng if he knew who my father was and he was like "ohhhh he is like a god in the ktph a&e!" haha. ;p
moth picked me up after with sit and we went to delfi to visit benny. they decided that my ring should be resized to 7 1/4. i think it all depends on the temperature, ha. showed them the t&co wedding band that i wanted and he said he could custom make it for me for like 1/3 of the price, so i got it. ;p and my mother got me a necklace as a wedding present. it's pretty. ;p oh and they cleaned my ring! it's so sparkly now. :D and he also showed me the 8 arrows and 8 hearts that can be seen under a magnifying glass.
went to check out evening gowns after, but only saw 2 reasonable ones and they were both for purchase. the first was probably 4 sizes too big for me but i really liked the flowy bottom half. the second was simpler. didn't see any more there so my mother went home and the sit and i went shopping.
got stuff from h&m (yes, i am aware that there is now h&m in melbourne, but i haven't gone there yet) mainly. got chocolates for the mother and grandmother. got my wedding shoes. haha. sat down for some koi, then took the train to city hall for opi's birthday/ mother's day dinner at asia grand. we thought it was at 7 but apparently it was meant to be 7.30 so we sat there for half an hour looking awkward, ha. food was alright, i think their dimsum is better?
people have recently brought to my attention that we would no longer be eligible to apply for a BTO once j gets a job, a fact we had so conveniently forgotten. D: and i was like, ahhhhhh but there is still a bit of time i guess. there is a may launch - bukit batok and woodlands. still not close enough to home to get extra chances though.

day 1 of 6 (in singapore).
haven't had much motivation to blog lately. i think it's partly because i've just been so exhausted too.
yesterday we had 2 inductions and that was it for most of the day until handover time haha. the first woman had her baby by 12 - i went in to suture the first degree tear and had the baby thrust into my arms for some loving. ;p she was a decent size too, for a 36 weeker. the other woman ended up having a cat 1 caesar for prolonged foetal brady (7 mins). she then proceeded to have a panic attack while we were closing up. -.-
managed to leave on time for once. went home, had dinner, showered, finished packing, fed and watered the cat and cleaned his litter trays. went over to tae's to drop off my keys, post office card, and instructions on how to take care of the cat haha. my wedding gown has arrived and he's going to help me pick it up from the post office tmr. :D so exciting!
drove back to clayton to see the boy for a night before flying back to sg. gave him corn muffins. :) those are a lot easier to whip up than cheese bread haha.
set off for the airport at 6am this morning. it only took an hour to get there so i could have left a bit later, oh well. caught the beautiful sunrise while i was driving. had maccas for breakfast and bought moscato for my mother (she is stocking up for my wedding). the lady asked for my ID. :p even at 25 i still look under 18! ;p hahaha.
the flight was uneventful. watched her and the secret life of walter mitty, but i fell asleep towards the end of both movies haha. spent the rest of the flight sleeping. ;p
my father picked me up from the airport and dropped me off at holland v. pottered around a bit while waiting for charm. went to phoon huat to get my piping bags but now they're expensive. :( so i only got 10, hmm. and daily scoop was closed for renovation (sigh), so we ended up at coffee bean instead. was nice meeting her. :) met paul before i left too.
had dinner at home. stinky cat is stinky.
12:30 am

day 5 of 6. only one more to goooo. :D though after coming back from sg next week i'll have another 3 days of birth suite days before going into my PCC/OT weeks.
12.5 hour days get easier after a while. it wasn't really that busy today either, there were only ever 3 women labouring until we handed over at night.
j came over to surprise me yesterday! :D he came by the hospital wanting to collect my keys because he forgot to bring his set, but i couldn't get away so he had to go home and wait for me. :\ but he went to coles and got groceries, including bundaberg ginger beer! :D it reminds me of bundy, and queensland. sigh.
he also climbed up into the ceiling to fix my central heating! now my house is warm again. :D life is so much better. haha. ;p
was supposed to resize my ring this trip back but it probably won't be ready by the time i leave and i really don't want to wait until the end of june to have it back. so i probably won't, ha. i'll just leave it till june, j can do it for me when he's back.
looks like it's going to be a really busy week back in sg. trying to squeeze in as much as possible. :|
okay time to sleep.
12:30 am

day 3 of 6. don't like birth suite days. :\
it's been crazy busy. on saturday all i had to eat was 3 biscuits in between theatre cases. on sunday i had lunch at 4pm. today i had lunch at 3pm. but there were 2 regs and 2 residents on birth suite today. i'm still not sure how mdau works.
every day i just work, eat, shower, sleep. trying to get one thing done each night - on saturday night i was just exhausted from lack of sleep/ driving back to geelong/ work. yesterday i went grocery shopping. tonight i'm doing the laundry. tomorrow night i will do some cleaning (hopefully). wednesday night i will pack.
this is such an exhausting month. can't wait to work days that finish at 5pm. can't wait for sydney. haven't been able to spend much time with j so far this month and won't be able to either until sydney really. :( all this work and travel, gah. can't wait for my annual leave.
