daniel so nicely cooked dinner for the med lg. :) it was nice to hang out with just us. excluding the engineering people. not that they aren't nice, just that they're different from us. i know, we're so exclusive.
we were watching avatar and i would probably have stayed to finish it if not for j. it's good though, i need to sleep because i'm driving up to shep tomorrow morning.
i like this non-confrontational method. and am thankful for the people who don't ask haha. ;p

this is how much my mother loves me compared with how much my mother loves him: when i was back, i got 12 packets of laksa lamian. when he was back, he also got 12 packets. joke: laksa lamian is once again available at hong kong. ;p haha.
they found a locum reg at the last minute. but only for the first 2 weeks. so we have another 2 weeks of days, thank God. and we can do the swap like we initially planned. sarah texted me, "all that kerfuffle for nothing!" so true.

day 2 of 4. what a day.
work-wise it was fine. 3 elective caesars that i had nothing to do with, 1 suction D&C that i had nothing to do with, no inductions, no one in labour. the reg saw the ectopic in ED.
spent some time writing up my neonatal hypothermia talk after a bit of inertia. felt that it was a really weird week, or rather, 2 days, because it has never been this quiet on a weekday. maybe on a weekend, but definitely not on a monday or tuesday.
then there was this patient who threatened to go home and kill herself because DHS wouldn't let her take her baby home because she's a junkie and continues to have positive urine drug screens.
then i got a call from HR about a new roster. ibby's going on leave for 5 weeks starting next week and they "haven't been able to find a locum," so they're making the residents do nights.
but i need to find the good in the situation, so, pros:
- no inductions
- there is still a reg on call, which means we won't have to deal with grumpy consultants
- we now have a proper bed and fridge in the handover room
- lots of deliveries
let's not think about the cons for now. and i still have to work out how to do the swap with sarah.
had dinner at rasmita's. met ibby's wife and kids! they waited for me to come to eat, aww. :) had lots of different curries haha. there was a crazy amount of food. they complimented the lemon tart but the pastry was soft (well it
is 3 days old) and the curd was a bit soft. lots of work bitching, as expected. sarah is really good at doing a bruno impression.
need to think about job applications hmmm.

it was a good monday. no inductions. no one to review in ED. ;p i wonder how i spent all my time haha.
best things about this week: the unreasonable boss is on leave!!! *jumps around in joy* and also, i'm not working friday = no pre-admission clinic. ;p
dinner at rasmita's was postponed till tomorrow because her daughter had a swimming class tonight. everyone was eyeing my lemon tart haha. gave donna the recipe. ;p that's one of my favourite things to do at work - sharing recipes. ;p asked ibby to bring it home for me tomorrow morning then bring it to rasmita's for me.
i wanted to park inside today but was too scared that my window wouldn't close so i didn't dare to. D: it's impacting on my life.

forgot to take the lemon tart out of the car but i'm sure it'll be fine sitting there since it's 2deg outside at the moment. even colder than the fridge.

exhausted. :( don't think i can muster up the energy to make a lemon tart (or even just the tart pastry) tonight. and nothing for church either. i just feel like i need to sleep for ten thousand years. but there's still that stupid neonatal hypothermia presentation.
went to peninsula hot springs yesterday with charm, tae, and paul. it was a lot bigger than i remembered haha. and the water wasn't as warm! but maybe it's cos it's winter? was still nice though. someone stole my havis but i managed to steal them back.
had lunch at Coffee Traders in mornington. they have the best hot chocolate ever! hot choc on a stick. amazing. their corn fritters were, however, mediocre.
wanted to make pizza for lg but the dough didn't rise so i made a frittata instead. felt more tired than i usually do driving up to shep and back down. i guess it's from going out every day. D: i am so old.
dragged myself out of bed this morning to go to the city. breakfast with charm, paul, and wj at auction rooms. then we said goodbye! :( don't know when we'll meet again.
went to michael's to pick up my film. slide film is pretty cool eh. even though i don't have my superdrive at the moment, i can still see what my photos are like. ;p just too lazy to actually use my film scanner heh. some of the photos don't look too clear though. :\
went to chaddy to get stuff for the costume. was disappointed by the lack of a certain plushie.
cannot work out how to do the hair. :(

was just called by gvh about whether i wanted to pick up an extra shift in o&g because sarah called in sick for tomorrow. this is how much i like my current job: if not for the fact that i'm not physically in shep, and that charm and tae will both be around tomorrow, i actually wouldn't have minded at all. (plus it's good money, right?)
had brunch at Top Paddock with charm and paul today. met paul for the first time, after hearing about him for 6.5 years haha. he's nice, and they are cute together. ;p and i really like Top Paddock. it's clean, roomy, and their soft shell (qld) crab is yum. would totally go back. want to try their eggs ben. ;p
i think that you leave a bit of your heart in every city you live in. and that the person you are when you're there is a bit different from the person you are anywhere else.
went to cotton on/ topshop (whoever knew there was a topshop on chapel st?)/ target to look for a swimsuit for charm so we can go to the hot springs on friday haha. then they went back to the city and i went home.
wanted to develop my lc-wide test roll but the place at pinewood doesn't develop slide film. :\ the guy said i should go to michael's. i guess i will, since i'll be in the city tomorrow anyway. hopefully it doesn't take too long.
made lemon macarons. think the lemon curd is too overpowering though. :| hopefully it sets in the fridge overnight.
had wurung gudeg for dinner and picked my food processor and pasta machine back from steph. she gave me pumpkin soup! with a hint of celery, she says. hopefully it's just a hint haha.

yay charm is here! :) picked her up from south melbourne and we had brunch at seven:am. have you ever? and corn fritters. i think we need to stick to hollandaise hmm.
drove to the city and found a parking spot at the usual place. :) yay my parallel parking skills haha. ;p walked around (prada, r&b) and decided to have hot/iced chocolate at lindt. there was a wedding gown exhibition upstairs and charm wanted to check out the bling ones but didn't see any she liked. ;p we also wrote tae's name in leaf on the sticky wall. but the turnover of words is too quick.
moved the car, then went to her place to chill and watch tv (and charge my phone) for a bit. who wants to be a millionaire haha. plus news that repeats itself every 5 minutes. then we went to mekong for dinner, yay. ;p
i got my PR! or rather, skilled independent (permanent) subclass visa. thank God! :D

did my jobs for the morning - ordered an outpatient pelvic ultrasound, discussed a patient with the surgical reg and sent the patient a letter and a script for antibiotics, organised a diabetic educator appointment for a patient with newly diagnosed gestational diabetes, did a baby check. deidre asked me if i was alright, did i have staph bacteraemia (because of the cannula yesterday)?
had lunch at home then loaded the car. both cats escaped while i was trying to find my phone charger cable. thankfully they don't run away from me, so they were reasonably easy to catch and dump in the car again. also collected my instax film and police check from the post office. still have not finished my first lc-wide roll, but i will tomorrow!
want to make pizza.

day 7 of 8. only 3 hours to go. :)
and it was a lovely sunday too. finished our ward jobs early, discharged a problem patient, kept an eye on a patient in ED but there were no beds and she waited like 5 hours before being seen. o.O
a patient came into birth suite by ambulance after a ?vasovagal episode. her husband expected us to know her medical history from her CTG and refused to answer our questions. ibby got so frustrated with him that he sent me in for another go haha.
had a farewell afternoon tea for kerry, who's going back to qld. :( so sad! hopefully she'll be back after 3 months of being a maternal child health nurse. after that bec attempted to cannulate me but failed. :\ i think it was just the angle of the needle though, cos the vein was right there. i was actually more afraid of her blowing it and giving me a huge bruise (like i gave one of my patients the other day :\).
need to remember to go and pick up my stuff from the post office tomorrow before driving back. going to have dinner with charm! :) i think. yay!
think that that pastry is amazing. need to find the recipe. think i'll make a lemon tart for dinner at rasmita's. :)
ordered stuff from f21 last night. and just bought my lc-wide instant back today too. okay time to stop shopping.

day 6 of 8. only 2 to go. :)
lazy saturday. :) :) i was so glad! no one in labour. only one threatened miscarriage in ED. sent two patients home. leisurely did a couple of discharge summaries. observed a midwife doing a baby check. spent a bit of time in the birth suite office talking with ibby and deidre. :)
oh and i woke up late haha. 40 mins late. jumped out of bed and rushed to work. parked inside on the grounds that i was late.. but i think it was really because i was lazy. :|
tried to find a recipe for something to bake for dinner at rasmita's but i couldn't find anything. instead i found a coconut bread recipe for ibby and a carrot cake recipe for deidre.
occasionally i feel wistful.
occasionally i think about nambour and bundy and bargara and eumundi and maroochydore and caloundra. and the warmth. and the sea.

day 5 of 8.
i am very annoyed. my mother has given me the idea of going back to sg next week and once that kind of idea gets into my head i can't get it out. add my impulsiveness, and that results in a lot of money flying away. but it's too expensive to fly back. plus charm is going to be in melb..
was also super upset with the boss this morning. he was demanding to know why the reg didn't examine a patient i admitted yesterday. how would i know right? how would i be able to account for the reg's actions? -.-
during teaching today rasmita told sarah and i, "whenever T is talking, check out ibby's face. it's hilarious!" ;p but seriously though, this boss just makes me not want to go to work. plus he's on over the weekend. -.- hopefully we won't have to see him much. praying for an extremely quiet weekend. i don't feel like doing anymore work.
rasmita is hosting dinner at her place in a couple of weeks. :) shall bake something haha. though i'm workinggg that day. "ibby doesn't eat anything!" "i know, that's why we're making vegetarian!" then ibby goes, "i'm not a vegetarian!" haha.
left my phone in the hospital and only realised it when i got home. could not survive without it so i drove back, cleverly forgetting to bring my swipe card because i don't usually need to use it to get in when i go to work in the mornings. but since it was after hours, the doors were locked. went in through ED, the receptionist looked up at me with an oh-i-know-who-you-are look (i had just spoken to her about an hour ago) and buzzed me in, yay.
sometimes i think i don't really belong in either group. students get holidays and weekends off. normal working people do a 9-5 job and get weekends off.

day 4 of 8. there goes my plan to sleep early.
it was an alright day. time to rest and time to be busy. i'm just annoyed with patients who are meant to come for a follow up ultrasound or bhcg but don't turn up and don't answer when i call them. -.- why do i need to chase you? -.- doesn't make any sense.
was glad that prasanna went down to ED to see one of our ex-patients. cos there were like 5 patients referred to us. so i swiftly redirected a couple to him for bedside ultrasounds. ;p speculums i can do, ultrasounds... i can do some lah, but i don't think i'm actually allowed to. no qualifications heh.
it was extremely weird getting a referral from vishu, the ex-paeds reg. weirder than getting referrals from ED consultants. because as the o&g resident i'm always making referrals to the paeds. but paeds will never refer to us. and it's just weird. but vishu is very nice. and i redirected that referral straight to prasanna haha.
didn't have to answer any questions or interpret any CTGs at the education meeting. :) during the friday teaching sessions i'm usually the most junior so they always pick on me. at these other meetings though, the midwives get picked on instead. :3 yay!

frequent flyer patients are such a pain. i sincerely hope that if and when i ever get pregnant, i won't transform into one of those super annoying patients and give my doctors such a hard time. :|
finally got a new battery for my pager today haha. ;p i've been walking around with a dead pager for ages but i never really saw a need to get a new battery because i always carry my work phone. and the batteries die so quickly. also dropped by HR to get a new thingy for my ID because i snapped mine the last time when i was trying to stretch it out to swipe it to get into the carpark haha.
also parked inside the hospital today because it was raining. my second time, i hope it doesn't become a habit haha. $2/day adds up to a lot.
ibby decided to add me on fb while we were having lunch in the birth suite office. we couldn't find each other but then i realised that it was the privacy settings. he said it's been a while since we worked together haha. true, but we're both on this weekend, so hopefully it'll be quiet. ;p he went through CTGs with me because he was worried that the bosses might ask me to interpret the CTG at tomorrow's teaching session haha. he is so nice!
i need to stop with these out of the blue arrows.
super dislike the boys vs girls thing on masterchef. i think it brings out the worst in everyone. -.-

day 2 of 8. madhouse monday got postponed by a day. -.- if this continues for the whole week again i will run away and not come back.
was quite a busy day. birth suite was completely full for quite a while. was glad that rasmita didn't have clinics or theatre so she could do stuff in birth suite and ED. didn't even go on the ward round because i was called to assist in theatre. was a lot quicker in gowning and gloving myself this time. ;p achievement unlocked.
we've had 4 FDIUs in 3 weeks. my reg thinks there are more miscarriages here in shep than there are elsewhere. she thinks it's related to pesticide sprays in the orchards. so i need to move away haha.
referred a patient to the surg reg, who later sat down with me and asked me what i wanted to do with my life hahaha. it was really quite unexpected coming from him because he was rather abrupt with me on the phone. :|

finally got to have lunch at 4+. claire (my favourite student midwife ;p) said to me, "omg fawn if you don't eat you're going to fade into a shadow!"
forgot to write about driving up yesterday. i woke up at 3.45am without an alarm, snoozed until 4.20, and left home at 4.54am. i was reminded of how lovely it is to drive at that time of the day. the streets are quiet, there's no traffic or trams.. it took me 13 mins to get to camberwell!
i also forgot to write about how nice it was to be able to come home last night. whoever thought it would feel so good? ;p hahaha. only when you're locked out eh.
i'm glad my hair is growing out.

day 1 of 8.
i really think that out of this whole ordeal, i was the one who was the least stressed. the most stressed being the one who drove all the way up and down for me, among other things. and my mother. but seriously though. i think i have been less of a worrywart lately. :)
and my cats are big fans. i have no idea why, but they are. my mother also. goodness.
anyway. it's the queen's birthday holiday today! i actually don't mind working on public holidays. no elective lists, no clinic, the reg is fully present to deal with catastrophes. though there wasn't much going on today. one emergency caesar (a repeat caesar scheduled for tomorrow who came in with ruptured membranes and in labour) and one admission from ED.
was really quite surprised that deidre noticed my new glasses. i think they're quite similar to my raybans so i've been surprised whenever people notice them. deidre kept talking to me about noodles haha. she said the other day when she was eating noodles she thought of me. ;p and my kouign amann was nearly gone when i left. which i think is not bad considering it's so sweet haha.
hung around birth suite after my shift was over. heard them talking about this 30 weeker who was in early labour, talking to the patient, talking to PERS, talking to paeds.... and was glad that it all happened after we handed over to the night reg. ;p and yasser (the new reg) actually offered to let me stay at his place, since he's on nights. maybe he's not that bad after all. ;p
i have to say that i will really miss some of these people when i move on to paeds. though i guess i will still see some of them in the nursery and on the ward. it really makes a difference working with nice people! :) so blessed.
also received a cheque for $361 as refund for Skype's qld rego. yay!
tomorrow there's one caesar and i think 3 inductions, none of which are ours. :) more private inductions on wednesday and none on thurs and fri. looks like it'll be a good week, fingers crossed.

we made it through the storm
back in melbourne. justin picked me up and got me macs breakfast yay. :) went to church, which was in uni, and managed to brush my teeth before service started. ;p
had this whole situation with my shep keys being in mt gambier, but it's sort of solved. sort of. instead of driving back this arvo, i'll drive back early tomorrow morning and go straight to work. justin and maybe daniel will get my shep keys from mang when she gets back and drive them and the cats up for me. :)
my cats are like giants compared to the ones at home haha. becks was so sweet, when i was sitting on the sofa he climbed onto my lap and curled up there hahaha. he usually only does that when i'm driving. he must miss me a lot. ;p bailey also curled up beside me, like he does at night. :) love my cats, they are the sweetest.
went for lunch at wah kee. i think choi palace has better salt and pepper chicken ribs.

spent some time with the grandparents while waiting for sebas to pick me up. weighed myself and nearly died. D:
went for breakfast at nassim hill bakery bistro bar - tiny portions at exorbitant prices, though the hot chocolate wasn't bad. went back to his place after, to drop the car off and say hi to his mum. ;p
went over to valley point for lychee and soursop sorbet at the ice cream gallery. loved the soursop sorbet! would have totally bought a pint home if i was staying a bit longer. moved to starbucks, where he was supposed to read and i was supposed to play nimble quest, but he ended up hijacking my ipad because i kept dying every 5 seconds. -.-
took a bus back to town and bought shoes because i thought i would be going to go to ku de ta. later decided not to go because i was tired and really didn't feel like going. :\ had old chang kee's sotong head and sebas had tori q and bread talk. also went to see tiffany and cartier rings hahaha. sebas insists that silver and gold would be better than gold overload. and apparently there is no such thing as matte gold?

woke up late today. but still managed to get ready within 10 mins so the sister could use the bathroom haha. ;p went to Prive for breakfast with the family. i think it was nicer last time! but oh well.
had time to kill so we had a kouign aman and lemon calamansi tart at tiong bahru bakery at raffles city. went on the DUKw tour (imitation duck tour) with the moth and sit and was just so bored. -.- nearly fell asleep.
the moth dropped me off at lavender after, where i bought furterer while waiting for kevin. had pies at windowsill in the woods. strawberry lemon and s'mores, both quite good, but ex. played nimble quest while waiting for the rain to lighten.
had dinner with the doctors at pu tien in marina square. it was really not bad. and it was nice seeing everyone again. :) and to hear work stories haha. especially from chai and shuyu, who are the new additions haha.
someone mentioned locuming and i wonder why it never crossed my mind to do that next year. though i'm not sure if there are a lot of jobs available for PGY3, hmm.
the plan for tomorrow: breakfast at nassim hill, tea at ippudo, drinks at ku de ta. i need to stay at home a bit more. :\ but the days really just fill themselves up. :\

day 2 of 5. i am exhausted!
had breakfast at home with fath, then moth brought me to the police cantonment complex to attempt to collect my COC. they didn't want to at first ("if it's already been sent to you then how to collect?") but finally acceded for a $20 fee. -.- plus i had to go back to collect it again in the arvo.
went to town and tried to shop for a bit before meeting kevin. i realised that i can't shop anymore. i can never find anything to buy, and i get tired so quickly. so i shall stick to online shopping haha.
met kevin and we went to hachifukuruma for ramen. they use a different soup stock from ippudo. nice, but i still prefer ippudo's! ;p went to tangs to *ahem* do things i was not involved in, then back to outram to collect my COC (yay!).
had a seasonal fruit tart at drips cafe + their drips shaken lemon tea. watched videos of supposed mermaid sightings. then went to tiong bahru bakery to look at their pastries haha. contemplated dabaoing for a bit but the sky looked so threatening that we decided to hurry back to town.
played some game on his ipad while he gymmed. nearly went blind. walked to dhoby and went to look at the tim ho wan queue haha. apparently it's ridiculously priced here. i'm glad i tried it in hk.
trained to farrer park. everyone was late and my feet were really tired and i just wanted to sit down. but it doesn't seem to be socially acceptable anymore. gone are the days when we used to even sit on the floor in the train haha.
dinner at swee choon! didn't think it was as bad as kevin made out. didn't think it was bad at all haha. liked the mee sua thing. conversations always revolve around marriage and hdbs these days.

realised that i no longer have the patience to respond to things like that. perhaps that is the biggest indicator.

went for a facial in the morning with the moth and sit. least painful facial to date! :) then we had lunch with the family at asia grand. dim sum and peking duck, yum. ;p though the peking duck was too oily.
went home to pick the broth up, then went to queensway and decided to make a new pair of specs haha. derek lam, who has ever heard of him? more expensive than rayban. anyway. the broth got converse specs haha.
dinner at home, had a short chat with charm's parents when they dropped her stuff off, went to beauty world for a back and shoulder massage, then udders with yurong. :) my shoulders are still super achey.
need to get new earphones because i lost mine. :(

i'm so glad the work week is over! it's also nice to be in a warm place again. ;p
did baby checks and deferred most of the other jobs to sarah before rushing off at 10.55am. managed to leave home at 11.20 though, which i thought was pretty good. considering becks ran to hide under the bed when i was about to put him in the car.
also managed to buy litter and pump petrol (it looked cheap). and squeezed my orange bag full so i didn't have to carry so many things. felt accomplished. ;p
moth and sit picked me up from the airport and we had penang ckt for supper. :) literally from penang. answered a whole heap of questions, showered, looked at my blogshop purchases, and am going to sleep now.

i always feel so stupid and helpless when i have to gown and glove myself. -.- usually even when i'm scrubbing in for emergency caesars the scrub nurse will help me gown and glove - they literally put the gown on for you, and hold the gloves out so you just have to shove your hands into them. today i scrubbed in halfway because the boss wanted to leave after the baby was out so there was no one sterile to help me. D: so one of the unscrubbed nurses helped me, but the visiting reg was all like, "have you never scrubbed in before?!" :( nooo it's just that i never have to do it myself! :( i know the scrub nurses really spoil us. but i really like it because i'm scared i'll touch the wrong thing. :|
today was a good day. best day all week. didn't have time to read but i had time to finally check all the pathology results and sign all the required letters. sarah sent me to buy her a snickers bar with $20, which i thought was ridiculous, so i just bought it for her. farewell gift haha. she finishes here on friday and she's going to amsterdam! via singapore. ;p haha.
came home and made a lemon curd for the lavender tart filling. tasted the unbaked lemon curd, and i really liked it. :D yay! hope it's as good baked haha.
i don't have energy to clean my house. D:
can hardly believe it's already winter.

day 6 of 8. nearly there. :)
it was another busy day, believe it or not. -.- 6 busy days in a row, but as i said yesterday, i'm mostly over it. only 12 hours of work to go.
manual evacuation of retained placenta, emergency caesar. also took >30ml of blood from a patient and am quite proud of myself for doing it haha. ;p except that pathology got it wrong and i had to stab her a second time. :|
