internet so temperamental. but maybe it's just the huge pdf leica manual haha. so complicated.. i think i get most of it. except the focusing. :| one worrying thing is the lens. hmm. i don't knowww and i'm getting more stressed with the time ticking. :| eeks.

had my last egg tart this morning. it was definitely a lord stow one. :) better than the margaret one.

went for the paeds/ neonatology lecture. i don't think we had to learn about the the protein/ carbo/ fat requirements of babies in such detail.. the lecturer asked questions and i was so relieved that she asked me about iron. :3 at least i could answer haha.


people complaining about having to memorise/ know SO MUCH for their exams always makes me feel.... i don't know. it's just one semester's work, you know. of course now i hardly remember any of what i've learnt over the last 5 years despite studying 4 years of work for last year's VIA. but i suppose it's all relative.

stayed in all day to get over my residual tiredness. my shoulders are still aching (more than the usual). only went out to get lunch (which will be dinner as well). should have picked #12 over #17.

my father says i can buy the leica if i want. they offered me usd700, which is around sgd869, which i think is pretty good, considering all the others i see on ebay are like $1000+ or $2000 (probably because it's a converted IIIc, i wonder how they do that). would prefer a IIIg but it's so much more expensive than the IIIf. it has the self-timer function though. ;p anyway, he says i can get it but i have to check that everything is working. problem is, i don't even know how to use the camera, how do i check? :\ and seeing me so clueless, they'd probably try to rip me off too. rawr.

another thing is that the leica photos look digital. which is cool, since it's film. but the photos won't have the film effect, which is what i love... so i don't know how much i'll actually like it. ;p it's lighter (and smaller) than measles though. :) i have 26 hrs 59 mins to accept.

etsy camera strap lady said she'd send me another strap since it hasn't arrived yet. and if it doesn't arrive before i leave hk, she'll refund the money. i don't want a refund though, i want the strap! :( hope it arrives. she's sending it out tomorrow. i think she should just meet me, since we're both in hk.

craving delicious kitchen's pai guat fan again. ;p tomorrow night! there's a 20% discount between 4 and 6pm. :)

daniel came to get his luggage and he and jean left for the airport. I AM ALONE IN HK. :( cannot stress how much i want to go back to melbourne now haha.

and apparently i am driving myself to the airport when i fly back to melb. why my life so interesting one. not only do i have to send myself off (which is not a big deal, i do that all the time when i fly from melb), but i also have to drive myself there... my parents are arriving back in sg (from somewhere in indo) the next day, so they want me to leave the car there so they can drive back. apparently it is cheaper than 2 taxis.

SO TIRED EVERYDAY. D: headaches everyday too. too tired. :(

went to develop my film and buy more film (bought 10 rolls today). the shop guy so nice. "your disc is full of virus! i help you scan!" haha. at first he said to collect the photos tomorrow, but i went back after like 2 hours and it was ready. ;p

did the rickshaw hop on hop off bus tour thing with my parents. quite zzz haha i've walked through most of the stops on the heritage route before. had lunch at some random restaurant we came across. saw an imac in one of the dried food shops haha. it looked so out of place.

they went back to the hotel and i went on the metropolis route (since i'd already spent money on the day pass). quite boring also lah. got off and walked through a market. markets are always interesting, sort of. or maybe just the ones that sell food haha.

came back to rest for a while, then went to central with jean to meet the rest of the malaysians. they ate at tai hing. i couldn't eat because the thought of eating fatty roast meat again made me nauseated. :| was nice talking to people though. :)

went to temple st with them also.. didn't buy anything though. there really isn't much to buy.. i just want an i ♥ hk tshirt. ;p

so many people dressed up today. for halloween? it's a couple of days early though.. but their costumes are all really elaborate... i miss our costume parties in melb. ;p we need to have a couple more before i leave. ;p

daniel bought 3 lord stow egg tarts for meeee. :D yeay. happy food. :) i only asked for one haha.

offered usd650 and they counter-offered usd700. i haven't done this on ebay before so i don't really know how it works... :\ shall wait for my dad's comments on the price (he bought his IIIf for sgd800, with a lens).

the most tiring few days of my entire stay in hk.

went to the hospital for a lecture this morning but the lecturer didn't turn up. i didn't mind too much cos i got to write postcards and use the uni wifi on my bb haha. also went to have breakfast.

finished packing and went to the central ferry pier to get my rekorderlig. nearly died walking there and to the central station with my countryroad duffle and 2 bottles of rekorderlig. :| took the train and had walked to the hotel. collapsed on the bed when i got there haha.

this is how hk people get into a crowded train: run right smack into the people standing in the train until the people stop moving because of the impact of people running into them. how ridiculous. and just like singaporeans dislike having so many foreigners in sg, i dislike how there are so many prcs in hk. -.- as you can tell.. i'm ready to go back to melb. ;p

had lunch in some random restaurant in mongkok, then went to causeway bay. walked around times square and had chocolate/ coffee at the agnes b cafe (which wasn't great). bought a cardi from zara. :) also found the perfect black coat there but my parents didn't let me buy it (even though it cost hkd699, which is around aud85). cheap lor. and so nice some more. so tempted to just go back and buy it, ha.

they were also so unenthusiastic about lord stow egg tarts. why are my parents so zz about good food. :| my father only obsesses about his braised beef. -.-

walked to the happy valley racecourse for dinner with cheryl's aunty (and uncle and cousin). it was quite nice, not awkward at all (except at the beginning). ate at moon koon, a jockey club members-only restaurant with a view of the racecourse. :) peking duck! hehe. talked (and talked, and talked).

smiled at an old man playing hide and seek with his dog haha.

came back at 11.30. i am aching all over. :( wonder if i should ask about tomorrow night, but think i won't. all i want to do tomorrow is develop my film haha.

went to K9N for obstetric grand round with the new batch of obs students. i prefer the way the obs grand rounds are conducted.. the gynae ones are annoying (mainly because of the hod). the doctor in charge seemed so nice. ;p haha.

met the parents at central and we went up to the peak. i really dislike the peak tram. the back and forth motion when it stops, and how my back hurts during the parts where the incline is steep. :( i feel so old. it was nice being up there though. the wind and the sun. :)

had lunch at mak's noodles. the portion was too small haha. oops. went back to central and then to jordan. walked around.. bought a bendy tripod for measles. :) yeay. went back to the hotel to rest our legs again.

convinced them to go to ippudo for dinner. my mother wanted to go to the avenue of the stars to look at victoria harbour too, but she was too tired after dinner. they were so unenthusiastic about my love for ippudo. :( and ippudo ran out of eggs! rawr. :(

father brought me to the camera shop in harbour city. so many leicas! found one i like. ;p apparently the "right" way to choose a leica is to first decide what lens you want to shoot with, then find a body to match it. but being me, i go for the looks. ;p it has lots of things to adjust though. and i have no money now anyway. ;p

had a shoulder massage today that was slightly better than the ones i've had previously (which were all lousy). but of course my shoulder ache is back. oh well, i've had the ache for years. and crepitus too. i don't think lugging measles around all day is helping. :\

day 10: it's still peeling. and there is a central.. opacity? i hope that goes away.

going for the case presentation tomorrow morning, then to the hotel by noon to meet my parents for lunch, then to causeway bay (egg tarts!) and happy valley for dinner with cheryl yan's aunty. thinking about it is making me even more tired. T.T

went for lectures today.

gynae emergencies lecture - torsion of an ovarian cyst. the lecturer explained how the cyst is separated and put in a plastic bag... "and because plastic lasts a hundred years, we just seal the bag and leave it inside."
there was a collective "what?!" from the class hahaha. the opening of the bag is brought to the laparoscopy incision and the contents of the cyst are removed using suction. ;p

did not go for clinic in tsan yuk hospital in the afternoon... came home and napped haha. woke up with the usual post-nap headache. :(

went to central for ramen at butao. it's similar to ippudo, but ippudo is still better haha. they ran out of eggs. :( and they only sell 300 bowls. and the shop is so tiny..

it rained and we came back.

my legs are looking worse and worse. :(


the options are rather interesting... from a practical point of view, doesn't make that much sense. but on the other hand... heh. i don't know. shall leave it to the "adults."

went for the orientation today. it was.. quite boring haha. there were lectures on the system and lectures on clinical topics. the lectures on the system were just plain boring (as they are, and particularly so since they're not applicable to me), and the lectures on O&G/ neonatology were very brief outlines..

left before their PBL assignment lecture. went to causeway bay to find the lord stow egg tarts in the excelsior (which i realised is a hotel). walked around a bit before that.. but just got tired really quickly so i decided to just find the place and go back.

think they're not as good as the ones from macau! :(

wendy (one of the hostel receptionists) keeps introducing me to elective students haha. chan from syd/melb, and sebastian from germany. seems like hku is a popular elective destination?

finished breaking bad... finally. really started to hate all of the characters by that time.

went to the pantry to "bake" a milo cake. ended up baking 2.. we had to add 3 packets of sugar to the second one haha. the texture was still weird though. but we finished most of it haha. cake for dinner.

ended up watching tv/ talking to noelle (another elective student from the US) and a hku guy (i don't know his name). quite funny. ;p a rather interesting night.. gave them the other three lord stow egg tarts haha. jean and daniel were both disappointed (definitely not as good as macau's), but noelle said it was good. how nice to try the less nice thing first haha.

got an email from mohh today. it said:
"A relocation incentive equivalent to S$10,000 is also offered to you to return to work in your home country, Singapore."
that's nice, isn't it? ;p hahaha. they are sounding more and more desperate. they should just recognise monash malaysia.. then maybe some of them wouldn't want to go to melb and there would be more jobs for us! ha.

fath says yes to a film scanner! YES. then i'll only have to pay the "total will be $6" guy $3. :) in that case i should totally buy the digitaliza. :) now the question: which flatbed film scanner should i get?

oh and also, shalini changed her grad ceremony to the 8th! :) we can take photos together! :) we're also supposed to bake together haha.

went to tsuen wan for the hope hk 11am service. met nice people who translated for us. ;p the worship was in chinese/ canto... i was so relieved when the pastor started preaching in english! haha. he sounded like he was from msia.

don't know why i keep thinking i only have one more sunday here.

went to sham shui po for lunch at lau sum kee, which is apparently kowloon's equivalent of mak's noodles. tried the dry wanton mee.... i really prefer the sg version. ;p the wantons are always good here though. :)

played with the cat who lived in the shop. ;p she kept meowing at us haha. awww. the cats in hk all look so clean.

walked around sham shui po for a bit. the air was so polluted. :| nearly died. went to the apliu st flea market. there were stalls selling camera bodies haha. there was even a leica!

came back to rest for a while. watched breaking bad.

went back out again. to tsim sha tsui for dinner at good satay in the houston centre. it sells malaysian food... we had hainanese chicken rice and satay. totally not authentic. such a disappointing meal! :( i'm still craving my katong laksa..

walked around tst after that.. the avenue of the stars. the view is so nice at night. :) except for the constant haze. i really feel like i'm getting lung cancer here.

also collected my printed photos. :) which is why i have started making the postcards haha.

talking to person x often makes me feel like vomiting blood. which made me think about how fath taught us that word when we were kids haha. haematemesis. the single medical term i knew before entering med school. ;p

more of the scab has dropped off.. i think it's starting to look a bit better although the edges are still fuzzy. maybe i'm just getting used to it.

going to go for the O&G orientation tomorrow. the next batch of students are starting their clerkship. and a half-day of lectures sounds good. ;p at least it's all in english so i can understand it! ha.

also went to tst to ask the guy about the bleeding. he said it's fine, but i'm not sure i trust him. anyway i hope it heals up soon so i can go back for another consult, ha. though i don't really want to be poked again. bits of the scab are falling off now. can't make up my mind whether it looks better or worse.. but it will never look as good as right after it was done. :| it looked so pretty then. ;p

found kimberley st with the amazing film camera shops. omg all the leicas! :3 walked around a couple of times haha. the street outside the building smells like formaldehyde though, which conjures up images of pots and chopped up cadavers.. pots are okay cos they're contained, but cadavers oozing formaldehyde.. gross.

had a headache. :( my headaches (the non-migraine-like ones) are often accompanied by nausea. so zzz. :(

legs still so itchy. have been wearing jeggings/ leggings out so as not to expose my ugly legs haha.

last lecture/ case presentation for this group of final years. some guy came to give a lecture on amenorrhoea.. they passed a mic around to answer questions. i avoided it. ;p

decided to go to causeway bay to check out island beverley. but i couldn't afford anything there... so i walked around outside. had pork liver and fish slice congee at ho hung kee (i know, weird combination). the liver was so soft it was a bit scary. :|

also had steamed milk pudding at yee shun milk company. :) quite nice, but a bit much. and i'm not exactly sure of what i was eating because i didn't really know what the chinese words meant, ha. am actively trying out the places kevin recommended. ;p i've tried ten places so far.

oh and since i was in causeway bay, i decided to dabao the pai guat fan from delicious kitchen. :D when we ate there i paid $49, but today i paid $32 only. hmmm.

finished my roll of film so i went to central to develop it. found a cheaper place! hkd40 (sgd6.70) for colour and hkd55 (sgd9.20) for b&w! totally not going back to the other shop, ha. except to buy film maybe. ;p am averaging about a roll per week so far. but i think after a while things start to look the same. unless you go someplace different.. have to be patient and wait till (at least tomorrow) to collect them...

why does my fb chat thing look like it has regressed?

oh yes. daniel dropped by last night to pack his stuff (his parents' last day in hk today) and he passed me a portuguese egg tart from macau! :D had it this morning, omg so good. i am willing to go to macau just for the egg tarts! would like to bring them back to sg... and even melb, but i don't think that's possible. ;p hmmm.



had wanton mee again, at a different place, and it was as good as mak's noodles, if not better. and at less than half the price too, ha.

spent two hours in the study room downstairs doing the last patient safety module, watching the x factor, and studying. ;p

went to collect my b&w photos. as usual, the thumbnails are always a lot nicer than the actual sized photos... zzz.

2 different people asked me for directions today.. do i look like a hongkee/ hongkonger? daniel (tsang) says they call themselves hongkees so it isn't offensive haha.

played with another cat today. non-stray this time.. i actually coaxed it out of the shop haha. then it lost interest with me and went to meow at birds in the tree. an old lady walked past and said that she didn't know they will let you touch them (in cantonese). :)

decided to go to mongkok. langham place, recommended by daniel (tsang). i like monki! and they have muji too. :) happy. bought my small bottle of sunscreen already haha.

walked around till 4+ and decided i was tired enough. bought sushi and came back. :) haven't had sushi in too long.

stole plastic bags from the pantry to put between my mattress and bedsheet. :| i hope i don't die of insecticide poisoning.

daniel (wong) says hakata ippudo is different from the normal ippudo. they have 6 flavours! but different from the 3 at the normal ippudo. and apparently it's cheaper too. :) the normal ippudo is already cheaper than sg ($15 in hk and $20 in sg).

daniel (tan) says we should drink together.

my tattoo currently looks like some burnt thing. not sure if that's normal....

thursday is the worst day of the week. :( i really dread the hour-long gynae grand round with the HOD. cos i really dislike her. zzz. i just hope she doesn't ask me anything. and that i get up on time.

oh i went to check out toms at lane crawford. prices range between sgd109 and 167. don't have the ones i want also. and since i was there i asked about the miumiu bag haha. sgd1970, siao.

it's starting to scab and looks terrible now..... i'm scared to touch it. just faithfully applying the AD cream and wearing sleeveless tops while i'm in to avoid things touching it (except when i sleep). i think i'm going to start carrying around a small bottle of sunblock haha. yes i know, so unlike me..

i think i have knee OA and i'm probably going to end up with it in my hands too, from all the knitting...

went for the gynae teaching round in the morning. their CCT (osce equivalent) is tomorrow.. 4 stations, 2 history taking (1 obs and 1 gyn) and 2 counselling (1 obs and 1 gyn), 10 mins each. not sure if the 10 mins includes reading time.. but it doesn't matter because i'm not taking it. :) that nightmare was over last year, yeay.

spent the rest of the day knitting (finally finished the first ball of yarn!), doing the laundry, applying cream to my bed bug bites (and scratching them incessantly). :( hopefully there won't be anymore after tonight. :| i woke up at 3.20am and scratched my legs for an hour.

finished rules of engagement. did 4 of the 6 patient safety discussion questions. my brain hasn't done work in such a long time... oh well. it's a start.

found out that there are places selling rekorderlig cider here! :D eggcite. going to check it out tomorrow. think i'll go buy kevin's spinner also. then after that no more money haha. oh want to look for toms too. ;p THOUGH I HAVE NO MORE MONEY. :(

can't wait to finish this roll of film. i want to see one particular photo. ;p but i think i'm only up to 20. :| i hope the film is actually loaded properly. :\ i've not loaded it properly so many times recently i can't even tell anymore. :(

slept in today. late enough that the cleaning lady came in and swept my floor while i was still sleeping haha. which was a good thing. i have been dropping a lot of hair. :|

went to central to develop my b&w film. so ex. :| $14+, and i have to wait 3 days.. oh well. hope the photos turn out nice. if not i probably won't be going back to a black and white world.. it gets slightly depressing halfway through the roll haha.

was starving so i went to have wanton mee at mak's noodles (anthony bourdain supposedly ate there). not bad lah. wandered around a bit more.. cotton on is cheap here. hahaha. daniel smsed to say they were giving out free haagen dasz at the central bus stop! but they weren't there anymore by the time i got there. :(

started to get palpitations at 5pm.. went to tsim sha tsui with daniel. was very stressed because we were running late! :( got very annoyed with the slow-walking people haha. there are a lot in hk, and not just old people...

found star crossed (past the flashing neon sign that says UNDERWEAR). the guy was quite nice. daniel helped me take photos (and a video) during. and he helped me take a photo with the artist too, after. but the bandage was already on. hope the photo isn't blurrr. :( most of the people who take photos with my camera who don't normally use that sort of camera end up taking blurry photos (eg. my brother).

went to have scrambled egg sandwiches at the australian dairy co. :) it's called the australian dairy company but the menu isn't in english... the guy sitting at our table overheard us talking (about gippsland, wilsons prom etc) and asked daniel if he was from malaysia. ;p turns out he studied in melb uni 50+ years ago.. and worked as an engineer in vancouver. he was back in hk for a holiday.

my mother refers to a fb message as a text.... i seriously have no idea what she's talking about half the time, especially with all the typos. we should exchange phones. she should give me her iphone 4 and she can have my bb!


my blackberry is not working.

literally... i stopped charging it this morning at 10am, didn't use it for anything at all, and the battery died at 7.30pm. seriously? after doing nothing? die lah.. should just get the new iphone, ha. at least i have a reason to keep my iphone after hk. ;p

took the tsuen wan line all the way to tsuen wan. only realised at lai king that we could have taken the tung chung line and transferred. -.- so dodo. walked around using a photographed map (my hk moleskine doesn't have a map of tsuen wan, it's too far out of the city) and found the church building! yeay. even went upstairs to make sure.

went to the shopping mall across the road to have lunch (xlb, la mian, and guo tie), then went back to the church, thinking that the service starts at 1pm. turns out... it started at 11am! zzz. their website info is outdated. :( so we only caught the last bit of the sermon. one of their songs very funny.. "sing until my lungs give out."

didn't really know what to do in tsuen wan, and it was so hot. so we went back to central, taking the shorter route this time. walked around central.. the film shops were all closed so i couldn't send my b&w film off. :( walked around some more... found a gelato shop! XTC (no idea what it stands for) - it had hk milk tea flavoured gelato! which really tasted like hk milk tea. :)

after wandering around a bit more, we decided to watch a movie (because we didn't know what else to do). walked back to the ifc mall.. discovered that the palace is actually a movie theatre HAHA. after going there a couple of times, mind you. they sell lomo cameras. ;p watched 3 idiots, which is an old show, but just started showing in hk a while back. front row seats.. but the seats were really comfy. :) and the show was really good haha.

had dinner at maxim. steamboat with 3.6 milk and pumpkin soup. thought it was strange but by the end it was really nice haha.

i have nineteen mosquito bites. :( 17 on my legs and 2 on my right arm. :( SO ITCHY.

really did not like the last episode of community. am missing my castle, which kevin doesn't watch. and i should probably get my modules done this week. :|

my feet are so tired after walking around the world today. made me consider buying toms again haha. should go check out lane crawford and pedder. hmm.

we managed to leave at 8am this morning despite getting back at 1+ last night. ;p took the mtr to tung chung (where the factory outlet is!) and had breakfast at macs. took a crystal cabin cable car (glass-bottomed) with an aussie family (minus the mother, who was sick). we were glad we decided to take the cable car instead of hike.

friendly lazy dogs in tung chung. :) went up to the giant buddha.. then daniel and i went on the "fun walk" while jean went to the museum. it wasn't fun at all. also walked on the wisdom path and found this.. thing that i don't know how to describe. i took photos though. but they're on b&w film haha. finished the film today! yeay. back to colour. :)

took a bus to tai o and walked around.. it's really "primitive," as jean says. the shops either sell tau foo fa, live seafood, or dried seafood. also saw some weird egg yolk thing. and had tau foo fa twice haha. went to the shao lin place and played with a model cat. ;p then we were tricked by a sign and climbed up a million steps to "see the chinese white dolphins" which we think was actually just a sculpture omg. we asked some locals if they could really see dolphins.. they said sometimes.

went on a boat ride to "see dolphins" too. no dolphins of course. only lots of kelongs and flying fish. watched the sun disappear behind some clouds and then took the bus back to tung chung, and then the mtr to central.

had dinner at tsui wah. we were all hypo-ing already haha. then finally, 4X and back to the hostel. ;p

it's friday night. we went to watch Real Steel. :) and before that we had pork ribs at delicious kitchen (in causeway bay). :) yum. the movie ended at 12.06am and we took the mtr to central, then ended up cabbing because there were no more buses..

so exhausted. and we're supposed to be going hiking tomorrow morning (if it doesn't rain). good thing i picked the monday appointment instead of the saturday one. will need to rest haha. and hopefully finally make it to church this sunday. :)

ended up going to times square in the afternoon. they have bershka and pull and bear haha. and citysuper! with lots of camera stuff. but it looks like the lomo prices are regulated. wondering if i should get a fisheye 2.. but it does seem expensive. :| or maybe i should just get the fisheye. but half the fun is looking through the fisheye viewfinder haha. which i can do on my diana, yes.

the HOD changed the colour of her nails. she referred to herself as "so smart," and constantly made fun of everyone's english... dislike.

found my way to the knitting shop again to buy my new needles and one more ball of yarn. my estimate is 5 balls.. but my estimation is terrible (except when it comes to luggage weight around 23kg ;p). 5 balls of yarn = sgd29. hmmm.

so envious of daniel, whose last day is tomorrow. :| i still have 4 weeks (and a whole lot of modules) to go. :(

oh and i did get the iOS5. i just don't really know.. much about it. and also the internet hardly works.. so i shall just wait till i go back to melb. ;p


today is day 12. i don't think i've ever been anywhere for this long, melbourne and singapore excluded. and i haven't mailed anything yet.. haha. i probably should.

went out at night for the first time haha. i usually dislike going out after dark (except in sg). i think it's just laziness. anyway, daniel suggested we go to ippudo. and of course i was willing to go out at night for that. ;p

the queue number was 440 when we got there, and our number was 481. walked around tsim sha tsui on canton road, wandered up to the old tree in the 1881 heritage building. it's a quaint old tree. quite a few couples taking photos around that building.. in the rain! so sad.

yay ippudo. :D i was really very excited to be there haha. was disappointed with the egg at first (it was white) but after biting into it i was quite happy. the yolk was soft and it was tasty even though it was white. :) and it only cost sgd15. :) satisfied.

hmm i guess not. but there are a few exceptions.. eg. ippudo, cold storage chicken, eggs ben and big breakfasts, malibu dream.. haha.

daniel wanted to try out the 5 generations (五代同糖) desserts but we were full so we walked around a bit first (yes, in the rain). found the lomo shop. :) another happy place haha. seems that the cameras cost the same everywhere. never knew the LC-A was so heavy.

went back to 五代同糖 and had egg pudding in egg cups, and a chocolate lava cake. the egg pudding was quite nice. and it's cute cos it's served in an egg shell.. haha. the lava cake was good too, except that i thought there was too much lava.. or maybe it's just me.


also found star crossed, ha. they still haven't replied me. :( turns out there's a tute on fri afternoon/ evening though. so looks like it'll be postponed either way. daniel wants to go and take videos/ photos. :|

i think i spent a lot of money today.. :\

anyway. it was raining like mad this morning. but no red or black signal, so we went for the case presentation. cervical incompetence and complications of prematurity. had breakfast in the hospital since i hardly ate anything yesterday.

came back and watched shows while waiting for it to stop raining. it eventually did and i went to ifc. found the baking section in citysuper and felt like i'd died and gone to heaven. wanted to buy everythinggg. then i felt sad cos i couldn't. ha.

went to elements to check out threesixty (another supermarket) but it isn't as good, in my opinion. went to metro books too. they have the i love lomo (?) edition of the fisheye, which looks kind of nice.. but also hkd698.

went back to ifc and got my stuff. after thinking it through, i realised that microwave baking here will be more difficult than i imagined.. eg. i can't even measure 1 tbsp, and i don't have anything to mix everything in.. haha. it will be interesting.

oh i also had a chicken craving while in citysuper and bought a piece of chicken! but it's terriyaki. must eat my cold storage chicken before i go back to melb. ;p

it keeps raining. :( i really need to go out and get some fruit and milk though. and flour and butter and stuff, because daniel said he would eat a microwaved cake haha. what, some people don't like to eat microwaved food..

not going out also means no photos.. :\ i haven't taken photos with measles (soon to have its name changed) for a while. :( it's very difficult to tell if it's raining (or how heavy the rain is) from my window though.

and i think i want to buy the connected needles and start over. :| which is a big deal because i've already knitted 37cm haha.

waiting for a reply... and i was looking at november and got it into my head that the 14th was monday. turns out it's friday. this friday.. eeks.





rainy day today.. went out for a walk only to discover that it was drizzling. haha. so after a while i gave up and came back. concluded that there's nowhere to go around here.

my inner baker is tempted to buy ingredients and microwave a cake. :| but what would i do with the rest of the flour and all.. hmm.

spent a lot of today knitting haha. did a few inches, then decided that it was too wide. unravelled the whole thing and started again.. have done about 6.5 inches now. ;p charmaine asked if it was a small sweater... why didn't i think of that ah? zzz. brain really not working.

star crossed replied my email and said their minimum charge for a hkd1 coin size tattoo is hkd600, which is about sgd100.. which sounds ex. hmm. i don't knowww. they said i can do it on 14 oct haha. that's soon.

stealing shows from daniel! yeay. but i don't know how to transfer shows to him... the perils of using a mac.

took a bus to mongkok and found the famous 1 michelin star dim sum restaurant, tim ho wan. there was already a long queue.. we got there at about 9.35 and it opened at 10, ha. kevin said to be there by 9.30.. but i think you really need to be there at 9. they told us the waiting time was 2 hours, so we wandered around and ended up eating a bit. eventually got our table at tim ho wan at about 12.

the dim sum there quite nice what.. ;p though i'm not much of a food critic, heh.

my phone started ringing and it was an unknown aussie mobile number. hmmm. picked up and was greeted by a "HELLO!!!!" ...it could only be yuwan. haha. using daniel's phone. i know too many daniels.. anyway, sent her my password but the router still doesn't work. :\ i don't know.

they went back after lunch but i stayed in mongkok cos i hadn't really walked around. so many peopleee omg. walked until my feet were too tired, then took the bus back.

yay emailed the people (complete with my own photograph with the miniscule bird). ;p


finished my swatch! yeay. lots of mistakes though. and i had to start over so many times haha. the needles are too big. :\ and i haven't knitted in too long... just have to wash it and see how it turns out.

also finished season 2 of arrested development.

people keep telling me "why you go hk and stay at home? so wasted! go out!" but i have been going out every day! :( go out and walk until i cannot walk anymore..

went to causeway bay and found the yarn shop. :) in hk there's no land (like sg) so they build up. and their buildings are really scary because they're all so tall. especially the flats - like 50+ storeys and so narrow.. they look like they would collapse easily.. like dominos.

the yarn was so expensive. :( if i need 12 balls to make a sweater, it would cost sgd70? like that who wants to make their own? just buy outside lor.. even cheaper. :( some more it's not even cashmere or merino. just a cotton and acrylic blend. sigh.

walked around causeway bay.. victoria park, and the hong kong central library. looked at some knitting books haha. but i can't borrow them anyway..

finished my film and went to central to develop it. had to wait 2.5 hours to collect it.. zzz. contemplated just collecting it tomorrow, but i'm always too impatient when it comes to seeing my photos. ;p so i walked around for 2 hours. my feet were dying. then i just sat on one of those poles by the road that come up to mid-thigh, you know.. at road crossings. there was some soccer match i think. millions of ang mohs drinking and screaming outside the bar.

finally collected my photos and walked to the bus stop. figured out where the other bus stop was haha. the fee is $5 there (as opposed to $6.50 at the first stop). yeay. saving money bit by bit to fund my shopping. oh i went to h&m and bought the girls (10-12yr) top haha. or maybe it's meant to be a dress? haha.

felt a familiar feeling today... and started to panic a little because i'd forgotten what we used to call it. don't know, it was just a word, but it seemed so.. precious. but then i remembered so it's okay. i still have it. i haven't lost it.

so anyway i have my yarn so i can go out a bit less.. hopefully. but not yet because i have to knit a swatch first and wash it to get the right gauge (because it shrinks in the wash). i hope i manage to finish ittt. :)


i don't know why i keep getting throbbing headaches. :( maybe i have a brain tumour. this one has been going on since 1pm. it got better when i got back at 4+ though.. for a couple of hours. :\

went for the gynae case presentation today. it's pbl style.. instead of picking something to discuss, they go through everything about the condition (it was an ovarian cyst today). it went for only 40 minutes, so we finished at 9.10am.. with the whole day ahead of us, ha.

decided to go to tsim sha tsui again to look for something.. but was disappointed. oh well. went to h&m again haha. found ippudo in that building! shall go back there to try it some other day. ;p

walked around the park we walked through the last time we were in hk. wanted to take photos of the flamingos (flamingoes?) but they were too far away (and they weren't even pink).

walked around part of victoria harbour and the avenue of the stars. recognised a few names.. but only jackie chan's tile had its photo taken haha. everyone else just ignored the rest of them..

contemplated finishing my film and going to central to develop it.. but decided against it since it was only at 30 and i'd already taken a few photos (and there was nothing much else to take photos of). i want to time it such that i finish the roll, send it off, and get a new roll of b&w film next. hmm.

also loaded film into the diana f+. :) am hoping for a sunny day sometime soon so i can take some fisheye shots. :) i wonder if they develop 120 film here. should probably also buy some..

after some ironing out some paypal issues, i have finally purchased the leather strap. :D yay! the person says s/he will ship it tomorrow (s/he didn't want to meet me haha).

okay i'm going to watch community then attempt to sleep this headache away.


went to causeway bay (tung lo wan) with daniel. turns out there's a minibus from just outside our hostel! the downside is that we have to tell the bus driver where to drop us off... and we are both too embarrassed by our cantonese haha.

the minibus systems works in an interesting way. you can get on/off anywhere along the route as long as there's no double yellow line. and you tell the bus driver just before you want to be dropped off (eg. at mcdonalds). doesn't matter if there's no bus stop there. and people queue up for buses here. as in, in a single file. singapore is so uncivilised.

walked around causeway bay.. tried to find the place in times square which someone claims has the best siew yoke in the world. think we found it actually. but the place was too expensive, we went to eat at hokkaido dairy farm milk restaurant instead. it's a strange place, they mix western and chinese food and serve it with milk/ tea. the milk just tasted like HL milk.. i really miss aussie milk. :(

oh and at first i thought the hokkaido place was the place kevin recommended for the scrambled egg sandwich (it isn't). but their scrambled eggs also very nice. and i love their takeaway packaging. want to buy something from there just for that haha.

walked around some more.. and stopped to have a mango dessert at hui lau shan. :) so nice! though there was a bit too much sago, ha.

was inspired to have a manicure because of the HOD's black nails, so i looked out for places (and ladies handed out flyers). the first one we saw was 98 for a manicure. the next was 88, and the next was 58. saw another one which was 50, but it looked too dodgy haha. ended up doing a mani/pedi. but it isn't very nice.. haha. and no cuticle oil! oh well. only sgd26 for both..

took the bus back and daniel was so relieved that someone else asked the bus driver to stop the bus opposite the hostel. i can't remember what to say already.. :x my cantonese is not improving at all i think. how to come back from causeway bay by myself next time? :x

it's annoying staying far away from the shower, i have to take a walk to figure out whether anyone's using it..


yay the one hour of class is over. gynae grand round = a student presents an interesting/ complicated case and the prof asks millions of questions (mainly directed at the students).

and she kept correcting the poor guy for saying "actually." -.- they don't even speak english to the patients, what does it matter?

so it's like a tute, but with doctors. eight of them, in fact. how come the doctors have so much time that they can just sit in meetings doing nothing ah? i also want lor. get paid to sit there silently for an hour.

on another note, why does steve jobs' death come as a shock to so many? the guy had pancreatic cancer... heh. i mean, i love my apple products, but he had pancreatic cancer..

am actually feeling like i need to study (of course feeling like i need to study doesn't mean i will actually get down to doing it). :O i think it just struck me that i'm (possibly) going to start work next year and i won't know anything. monash's fault for having our VIA in 4th year and having absolutely no teaching in 5th year.

there is really nothing to do if i don't go out (besides watch shows, and i have been so distracted i can't even get through one episode without pausing it like ten times to do other random things. and glee is even worse, i fast forward through half of it). so i think i should.... start knitting again. haha. no, not study, but knit.

anyway. i really like hk. :) i like how after a while on the bus/ minibus, you're bound to see the sea. i like how you can wander around and not get lost. i like how it's small, so it doesn't take that long to travel around. plus people are friendly (unlike in sg). but maybe it's partly cos i feel like i'm on holiday..

went to prince edward/ mong kok in the morning for breakfast at kam wah. polo pau, egg tarts, and milk tea. the polo pau was nice (but huge), but the rest weren't that great. daniel and jean keep saying malaysian food is better haha.

played with a very furry grey cat (who looked like a toy). :) the shop owner fluffed his/her fur and asked her to look at the camera but she didn't. and also there are so many well-behaved pedigree dogs here. golden retrievers, poodles, collies, schnauzers.. wish i had one.

anyway after that we went to stanley market. the view on the way there (from the top of the double decker bus) was so nice. :) remembered that i'd been there before. bought a skirt.. and that's all. haha (and then i proceeded to wear the skirt around instead of my jeans because it was so hot!). walked around a couple of times but there was really nothing to buy. had lunch at macs haha. only hkd13 (sgd2.20) for a mcchicken and small coke leh. plus i was still full from the giant polo pau, heh.

went to see the military cemetary and the beach. we wanted to go windsurfing, but they said we need to take a course. and i don't really understand the brochure..

took a bus back to qmh but i decided to stay on it and go to tsim sha tsui. walked around.. but everything was so expensive. like hkd700 siao. then i decided i was too tired and came back haha. my feet are so tired!

so basically all i did today in terms of "work" was attend a two-hour tute. :O ovarian masses, endometriosis, and fibroids. i'm quite okay with fibroids and endometriosis but i know next to nothing about ovarian masses, ha.

their presentations were quite good. very thorough. but then they were reading from textbooks/ lecture notes... they had to do role plays at the end, in canto. i'm glad i'm exempted. ;p another tute next week at 5pm..

looks like my timetable will be as slack or as busy as i want it to be. cos my supervisor just wants me to decide what i want to do on my own (as opposed to allocating me to clinics etc).

tomorrow is a holiday! :) but i don't know where we are going yet. "it's a holiday! go sightseeing!" says my supervisor.

my bb is dying. i'm not sure if it's the bb, or if it just doesn't like the hk sim card. :| the battery is drained so quickly.. think i'll just switch to the iphone.

dinner with daniel downstairs. the ladies at the cash register always seem amused by my inability to order in cantonese. i usually can't even read the words in chinese.. zzz. when they eventually get what i'm trying to order, they laugh and say it in cantonese.. not like i can remember also haha.

i'm sitting in my room with the fan off and the window slightly open.. and i'm cold. -.-

daniel brought me to the O&G department in the professorial block of the hospital. waited for more than an hour because hku forgot about me. -.- finally someone came to claim me, ha. different supervisor from daniel.

she introduced me to one of her students, then dropped me off at an endometrial aspirate clinic (everyone presents with intermenstrual bleed/ post-menopausal bleed and gets an aspirate). attempted to understand what people were saying, albeit not very successfully.

dabaoed lunch back. moved all my stuff over to the new room and talked to the lady downstairs in chinese haha. got all my stuff sorted out. i prefer the old room, but oh well.

decided to not be lazy despite the wind. went to the IFC (international finance centre) mall. didn't buy anything cos it was all so expensive haha. liked the bookshop though. and the citysuper supermarket. :O wanted to buy everything there.

found my way to central again. wandered around and came across a few shops selling film. the first 2 sold the kodak colourplus 200 36exp for about hkd20 (sgd3.30). the last one sold one roll for hkd15.50 (sgd2.60) if i bought 5. :) yay. bought 5. asked about developing (the guy could speak english). hkd48 (sgd8) to develop and scan hmmm. more expensive than my usual at btp, but if i can't wait i probably will. :)

found tai cheong bakery, which kevin recommended for the egg tarts. :) they're really good. :) yeay. wandered around some more and bought groceries. and a tiny bucket haha.

i actually quite like wandering around hk on my own. with the help of my moleskine maps of course. ;p

don't understand the timetable.. and my supervisor isn't as helpful as daniel's (his just highlighted the few things he needed to go for). and because she tutors, i've been asked to join her tute group.. the next tute is at 5pm tomorrow. -.- but i don't know what to do tomorrow also. might go for an afternoon clinic? so i can take the morning off.. hmm.

went to cheung chau today! it's a tiny island an hour away (by ferry).

cycled around, went into cheung po tsai's cave (he was a pirate with 50000 under him and a fleet of 1200 ships!). it was tiny, and the exit was so narrow haha. not for fat people.

it kept raining. :( oh jean learnt to cycle. not bad, quite fast haha. had wanton mee and mango sago. :D and fishballs and fried fish skin. met kerensky there. :O he's a friend from foundation. though i really don't know how i know him because we never had any classes together. hmm.

hot and cold. i am becoming more and more cold intolerant. :( didn't get to take many photos also because it was raining so much. need to find a shop that sells film though, hmm.

saw someone carrying a zara bag just now, HMMM. :p will wander around a bit more tomorrow if i finish early. i hope my supervisor is as slack as daniel's. ;p

turns out my friends are just down the hall haha. 101, 102, and i'm in 113. supposed to move to 117 on monday though.

so i slept 3 hours and was a zombie for a lot of the day. sat down in the airport for 5 whole minutes after my mother dropped me off before realising that i was supposed to go check in. -.- haha. had milo then went in.

neck ache from sleeping in the plane. watched tbbt and rewatched community and modern family. cabbed from the airport to the hostel. it cost hkd335, which is about sgd56. but i was expecting hkd400 so i was quite happy, ha. passed through a lot of places i'd love to photograph. but later on in the day someone said "that's so, what the hell?" when he saw me take a photo of a sign. :(

nobody understands english. though i heard a lot of people speaking english in h&m haha. so many ang mohs. was walking around central, then eh, h&m. so i went in and bought shoes haha.

met a french man who stood on the corner and talked to me for a long time. he said he's been here for 18 years and he gave me his card (it said he's the french HOD in some apparently prestigious school). then he said i could go to this building to watch the fireworks (turns out he rents an apartment there). errrr no. then he had to meet his friend so i escaped haha.

wandered around without using a map, so i was quite happy that i managed to find the bus stop and catch the minibus back haha. though when i got back i realised that there's a nearer minibus. and cheaper too. and also i bought a tourist octopus, which i think means i wasted a lot of money, but it looks nicer than a normal octopus! though it has the giant buddha on it. :\

jean and i are ordering kfc in. but daniel doesn't want kfc. and we're not going to see the fireworks cos it'll be too crowded and we won't be able to get a good spot (and also we're lazy).

tried to upload my yearbook photo and ended up uploading 3. -.- of the same photo. sigh.

am thankful for internet. :) and i finally got my sim card to work. can use whatsapp too, with the hku wifi. but bbm doesn't seem to work..


flying in 6 hours! heh. i'm actually really tired of all the traveling i've been doing this year. :|

drove to town. bought bread for breakfast tomorrow. collected the movie tickets. we ended up having dinner at mos burger instead of the canteen because everyone was late haha.

watched fright night. zepeng was so scared. ;p HAHA. okay so was i. i really don't like scary shows. though vampire ones are still okay cos i won't be scared after. not like emily rose that kind of scary that stays with you till 3am, ha. 123456.

zepeng didn't know how to get to his car. so he went up to 12 with me and i drove him to his car on 8 haha.

just a tiny bit of packing left for the morning. haven't weighed my luggage but i hope it weighs less than 20. :| please please please! it feels less than 20. or maybe around 20 haha.
