She doesn't look like she'd have a lot of vertical (after all, she only measures about 20 inches tall)...
"Measuring tapes are scary, Momma!" |
When our gardener comes, the protective shepherd in her goes a little nuts. We usually put Rita in our bedroom, and shut the blinds in the hopes she'll let the guy do his job unharassed. But, unless one of us sits with her and tries to keep her calm, she goes to the window and sproings up and down, barking like mad.
We wouldn't believe how how she can jump if we didn't have the nose-marks to prove it.
It's a little hard to see, but the top of that nose smudge (or "pupkus" as we call it) is at 57 inches. That's almost 3 times her height. That's like me jumping 18 feet into the air. (I tried, and I made it about 6 inches...)
Here she is putting her sproinging skills to good use, trying to see what all is in the box of treats we just ordered.
"Duck feet!?! Oh man!!!" |

I've got two interviews/reviews of Rescue Me, Maybe to share today!
First, I was interviewed by Dorri Olds over at her blog. Dorri is an
award-winning freelance writer whose work has appeared in anthologies and
The New York Times. (!) She meets and interviews all kinds of famous people - most recently Ralph Fiennes - so it was a thrill that she interviewed me!

And on Monday, I'm over at Peggy's Pet Place. Y'all know and love Peggy, right? She's my fabulous fellow author friend, dog-lover, and the brainiac who helped me come up with the title for my book! Please stop by and check her post!
Happy Monday Mischief!
Thanks to Snoopy’s Dog Blog, Alfie’s Blog, and My Brown Newfies for hosting Monday Mischief!
Wow Rita can jump....must be some Springer there LOL. Well done on the interviews. Have a marvellous Monday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Sounds like you need to take some agility lessons with Rita!
ReplyDeleteWe don't mind what breed Rita is, she's so cute and clever anyway! I wish I could jump that high!
ReplyDeletePippa :)
We humans aren't very athletic when compared to our animal friends :-) I can't outrun the three inch legs of a corgi! An adult man probably could for a short while, but the dogs can hold a full-on sprint for much longer!
ReplyDeleteHaha! It sounds like Rita has built in springs in her legs! That girl can jump!
ReplyDeleteThat's PAWsome side shot. I bet Rita will be good on rock climbing :-). Will check out your interview. Happy Monday. Lots of Golden woofs, Sugar
ReplyDeleteRoxy springs like that, and she is way tiny. She has lost some of her spring in her old age, but she still does pretty good.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty high jumping. Maybe you should try some frisbee agility. Indy used to be a good jumper, but the old girl ain't what she used to be (same is true for me).
ReplyDeleteHa Ha, Mom thinks I have springs in my legs too, I can jump up on the bed with ease and it is more than twice my height tall!
ReplyDeletehugs
Greta
Bailey & Hazel too
It might be worth it to get a trainer and work on her ball handling skills. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteYou're a great writer! Here's to the first interview launching you into author stratosphere! Working on the next book yet?
I'm afraid the best human athletes can't come close to the abilities of our ordinary little dogs. Usain Bolt is the fast human alive, but a small Greyhound can leave him in the dust. I guess we should be glad that they usually use their powers for good and not evil.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great jumper! Kelly is a great jumper too, I think she's doing great for an 11 yr old gal. One time she jumped right over a counter at the groomer to get to us!
ReplyDeleteSproingy is right - that is some serious leaping!
ReplyDeleteLove that action shot! Jeffie is sooooo impressed!
ReplyDeleteHey, Jackie, I sent you an email awhile ago that must have gone astray... planning to review your book and want to "steal" some photos. Okay with you?
Yes! That's cool! I'll email you as well in case you don't see this!
DeleteThanks, Jackie :-)
Deletecongrats on the interview with Dorri! That is PAWTASTIC!!!!!! And...are you sure Rita isn't part jack-rabbit?
ReplyDeleteWhen Hobie was younger, he used to jump all four paws off the kitchen and look me straight in the eye (I'm 5 feet tall) whenever I was preparing food. LOL! When I saw the "duck feet" picture of Rita, it reminded me of what Hobie used to do... I had forgotten all about that! She is so cute, have I told ya that lately? :)
ReplyDeleteWow, Rita really can jump! I wondered if it could be a beagle thing....our little beagle Cricket can also jump very high. However, I don't think I've ever seen her beagle brother jump, so I don't know.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting that great interview, and you are getting lots of reviews lately too. Going to read Peg's now!
Oh my that is crazy great jumping! :) Storm can jump really high too. Maybe it is a girl thing!
ReplyDeleteI won a copy of your book from Flea and got it just in time for vacation. However the weather was so wonderful that I didn't open any of the books I brought. lol But winter is coming so I usually have more time to read.
I love that you use nose marks to mark how high she has sproinged - brilliant!
ReplyDeleteWow! None of us are good jumpers. Do you think one of her parents may have been a kangaroo?
ReplyDeleteThe girl gets air. She may have some chocolate Ninja lab in her too. It wouldn't surprise me to see Miss Delilah jump that high.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your interviews. I owe you one still!!
Wow Rita,
ReplyDeleteYou sure can jump buddy!! :) I get the whole gardener thing, your house sounds just like ours, Mum and I have to hang out in the closet cos I go so nuts, and that's even with the blinds closed! They bring very scary machines!
Wags to all
Your pal Snoopy :)
She sure can jump. Love the nose smuggie picture. She was caught red handed with that one.
ReplyDeleteRita sure can jump high for a medium sized dog! Beamer is almost as tall as me when he stands on his hind legs.
ReplyDeleteOMD! I love that pic of Rita jumping! What a perfect capture! It so looks like she's levitating.
ReplyDeleteAnd awww, she really looks nervous about that measuring tape. Dogs get anxious about the funniest things, sometimes.
Great interviews with Dorri! Read both of them while I was there. Awkward silences and hugging weirdness... I SO hear ya... I try to avoid both, if possible ;).
