Discourse 69 (1)

Between the human being and God are just two
antara manusia dengan allah hanya ada dua

veils—health and wealth—all other veils come
tabir – sihat dan kaya – semua tabir lain datang

from these. Those who are healthy do not look
dari tabir ini. dia yang sihat tidak mencari

for God and do not see Him, but as soon as pain
allah dan tidak melihatnya. tapi sebaik saja kesakitan

afflicts them they cry out, “O God! O God!” calling
menyentuh, lalu dia berteriak, “ya allah! ya allah!” memanggil

out and surrendering to God. Therefore,
-manggil dan menyerah diri kepada allah. justeru,

health is their veil and God is hidden in their pain.
sihat adalah tabir dia dan allah tersembunyi dalam sakitnya.

As long as people have wealth, they gratify
selagi manusia ada kekayaan, dia puaskan

their desires, and are preoccupied night and day
keinginannya, dan sentiasa sibuk siang dan malam

with pleasures. The moment poverty appears,
dengan keseronokan. sebaik saja kemiskinan menjengah,

their spirits are weakened and they turn to God.
semangatnya jadi lemah dan dia berpaling kepada allah.

Drunkenness and poverty brought You to me,
I am the slave of Your drunkenness and need!
kesakitan dan kemiskinan membawa tuan kepada saya,
saya adalah hamba kesakitan dan keperluan tuan!


God granted to Pharaoh four hundred years of
allah menganugerahi firaun umur, kerajaan dan

life, kingship and enjoyment. All that was a veil,
keseronokan selama 400 tahun. semuanya adalah tabir

which kept him far from the presence of God. He
yang menjauhkannya daripada hadir allah. dia

did not even experience a single day of disagreeableness
tidak mengalami, hatta satu hari yang suram

and pain, so that he would completely
dan kesakitan, supaya ia sepenuhnya

forget God. God said, “Go on being preoccupied
lupa allah. lalu allah berkata: “teruslah sibuk

with your own desire, and do not even think of
dengan keinginan tuan, dan jangan berfikir pun tentang

me. Good night!”
saya. selamat malam!”

King Solomon grew weary of his reign,
But Job was never sated of his pain.
raja sulaiman menjadi letih dengan pemerintahannya,
sedang ayub tidak lekang daripada kesakitannya.

Discourse 71 (1)

The difference between birds on the wing, and
perbezaan antara burung yang bersayap, dengan

lovers of God, is that birds always fly in a certain
kekasih allah, ialah burung selalu terbang menurut

direction, while lovers of God fly on the wings of
arah tertentu, sementara kekasih allah terbang dengan

their desire away from all directions.
sayap keinginan mereka jauh dari semua arah.

Every horse has its stable, every beast its pen,
setiap kuda ada kandangnya, setiap haiwan jerumunnya,

every bird its nest. And God knows best.
setiap burung sarangnya. dan allah maha tahu.

Where is the one (1)

Where is the one who
Intoxicate my soul without the wine?
di manakah dia yang
tanpa wain memabukkan jiwa saya?


Where is he who
Takes away my heart and soul?
di manakah dia yang
membawa pergi hati dan jiwa saya?


He who befits my adjurations
dia yang tepati rintihan saya

Where is the one who
Broke my adjurations and repentance?
di manakah dia yang
mematahkan rintih dan sesal saya?

He who
The mourning of lovers at dawn seeks...
dia yang
dicari ratapan kekasih di subuh hari...

Where is the one whose
Pain has taken us from our being?
di manakah dia yang
sakitnya mengeluarkan kita daripada ada kita?


He is the soul of all souls,
Is there any wonder that he is everywhere?
dialah jiwa segala jiwa
lalu hairankah bila ada dia di mana-mana?


Where is the one who
Seeks existence in our being?
di manakah dia yang
mencari wujud dalam ada kita?

Eye-coquetry is
Only an excuse, and a whim.
godaan-mata
hanyalah alasan, dan gerak hati.

But where is he who
Tired my heart and caused all coquetry?
tapi di manakah dia yang
memenatkan hati saya dan jadi punca semua godaan?

The veil of the heart he drew,
Imaginations he unveiled.
tabir hati disingkapnya
khayalan dia dedahkan.

Where is the one who
Behind the veil exhausted the veil of the heart?
di manakah dia yang
dari balik tirai menyingkap tabir hati?


Where? Where? Where?
di mana? di mana? di mana?
