Behind the Rocks!

Two days after Chloe got her cast on, we decided to continue with our spring break plans...camping in Moab. We trekked out to an area Hans is very familiar with...Behind the Rocks....it is where he races in a 24 hour mountain bike race each fall. We camped right up next to this butte and loved the small arch in the top. We took 2 cars, one pulling the trailer, the other pulling the unimog. Very stressful for Traci, but we survived!
We love anything that says "Rock" in honor of our little guy!
Hans' brother Eric, two of his kids (Max and Josephine), and Hans' dad Frank met us in Moab for dinner. The kids camped with us and then Frank and Eric came out for the day to Unimog with us. It was a blast. Eric told Hans that the kids were having more fun than they did in Hawaii....so true!

Tricia brought Chloe friendship bracelet supplies when she broke her leg, we all ended up making them the whole weekend. Here is Hans making me one!
Friendship bracelets!
Gray went a little crazy on the little motorcycle in the sand, luckily no injuries!
Chloe...even totally stylish in the middle of the desert with a broken leg!
Tru doing a little rock climbing up to a little grotto above our camp!
Rock...behind the Rocks!
Josie...posing!
Beautiful Lola, having the time of her life...you can almost see the smile!
Gray, Tru and Hans went for a ride to a look out, loving time with the boys!
Family picture up in the Grotto above the camp....it was a great 4 days, we had the time of our lives!

Chloe's Broken Leg

So, an hour before we were supposed to pull out of the driveway to go camping in Moab for spring break, I was at Walmart picking up a few last minute items when I got the call.....

Hans: "Umm Trace, the school just called and said Chloe fell and hurt her ankle... nice... will you go get her?"

Traci: "Great, there goes hiking in Arches."

Wow, are we great parents or what?

So I hurry to the school and when I get there, her reaction said it all, I knew she was hurt and bad. We immediately called our fab orthopedic buddy and he said come right down. I had to drive really slowly because she couldn't even handle the pain of going over small bumps. I carried her into his office and within minutes had her on the table. He felt around and didn't think it was a broken ankle (relief) but wanted to take x-rays to find out what was wrong. Oh just two broken bones! (sigh) Far enough out of line that surgery was in order. No pins or plates, just a lot of pushing and pulling and there was no way she was going to let that happen while she was awake! She was in pain, a Lortab didn't touch it, another Lortab didn't touch it, it wasn't until we got the Percocet did she drift to sleep for a couple hours to wake up again and say..."It hurts sooooo bad!" They put on a splint to help her through the night, but she wouldn't/couldn't take off her jeans so we had to cut them off. We were at surgery the next morning by 6:30. This was her going in, what a trooper!

Our awesome Dr. friends took care of her like a superstar. They split her cast to allow for some swelling, hence the white tape across her cool black cast.
A week later they wrapped over the cast again tightening it up and making it even heavier, poor girl! She's doing great and is looking forward to the walking boot. What a stud!
How did she do this you might ask? Well, on the playground she was playing with friends, she jumped down from a bar to the main level of the playground and her right foot hit the top of the slide that happened to be wet from the rain....bummer! Her friends said she screamed like a 2nd grader....I guess that's an insult being in 5th grade and all!
