Birthday Boy

Alexander turned 5 today. We had a simple G.I. Joe themed party for him at the park yesterday. Today when he was telling his grandma about the party, he said, "We played at the park. That's where we wanted to celebrate, so my mom wouldn't go crazy with kids in the house." That pretty much sums it up. I'm not a fun mom. I can't stand having kids run all over the house. The park was the perfect place for the party.

Here's the birthday boy with his new Spider-Man bike.

When I saw this light at IKEA, it was love at first sight. I knew it would be perfect in my bedroom. Don't you just want to make a wish and blow on it?

Only problem is, I needed two of them, and of course IKEA only had one. And of course they are out of stock for an undetermined amount of time. That's the drawback with IKEA. If you see something you like there, you better just get it. Don't go home and try to tell yourself it's too expensive and you shouldn't get it because when you decide you don't care that it's too expensive and you simply can't live without it, it's already gone. Regardless, I absolutely love the light, even if I only end up with one.

B-I-N-G-O

Alexander had his first piano recital yesterday. He performed the renowned musical number "Bingo". He played it very well, and he apparently didn't experience stage fright, even though there were about 50 people at the recital. In fact, as we were walking in to the recital, he said, "A lot of people came to hear me play." He has been taking lessons since the beginning of the year. He was very excited to start, and it made him feel so important to think that he was taking lessons "when he was only four!".

While I love music, I'm pretty much musically and rhythmically inept. But since Alexander has always seemed to like music and has shown an interest in learning to play an instrument, we decided to try piano lessons. I figured maybe he would just plink the keys and get some general exposure to music. So we were pleasantly surprised when he was able to actually pick up some songs and learn the specific keys. Hopefully he will continue to enjoy it.
