Attended 2 weddings in one week. And been talking about weddings a lot recently. I think toSH has correctly pointed out that a wedding will be all the more heartwarming if you know the couple well enough to have witnessed their journey together.
We can't really avoid the lovey dovey element. Regardless of how one despises mush, wedding seems like an occasion on which you are permitted to administer a good dosage of it. And it's nice... maybe it's a girl's thing but who doesn't like a fairy tale in the real world?

this amazing piece of technology
Nintendo Wii - Fatally addictive.
Coursemate of mine invited a group of us to play with this new toy of his. Goodness. This is the second time I've played Wii and it's still exciting. And I can't help but marvel at the technology that goes behind it.
Hmmm... so in a way, that's how PHYSICS is useful (and cool). Ermm... you know, wireless communication and stuff. Ask the engineers.

The State of Youths Today
Went to NIE for a Civics and Moral Education Workshop. We were asked to do a collage to represent what the students these days are like - their psyche, what turns them on, what is important to them, etc etc.
Our group (haphazardly) came up with the following...

As you see, we basically think that we are dealing with very high strung, impulsive, immoral and confused youths. Tsk tsk.
Sometimes I wonder whether our teachers thought the same of us while we were students. Humph. And I also wonder whether the same applies to us even now - seriously, how much have we grown? Haha.

I PASSED!!!
AFTER 2.5 years... 3 attempts... and a few thousand dollars spent...
I HAVE FINALLY PASSED MY DRIVING TEST!
Haha... Elated and on the brink of disbelief. Gosh, really thank God for the license. It must be His grace that I passed - or at least, I think that was the lesson I have learnt - because the tester actually had to do an emergency brake on me during the test. I neglected to check for oncoming vehicles and nearly had a motorbike crashing into my car. Shucks, I am going to be a road hazard if I don't improve.
Anyway, I've been suppressing the excitement, partly due to the fact that there's no car for me to drive as yet. Waiting for my dad to offer his. Which is later this evening -- first drive w/o the 'L'-plate! (Alright, confession - I've driven without an 'L' plate once, illegally :S)
Moral of the story: Don't give up! You'll pass eventually!

Crazy Stuff...
The Mentos/Diet Coke experiment - something I had attempted to show in class but not with much impact. Now, these two guys really did something quite stunning. (although one can raise serious doubts over the scientific value or even authenticity of the experiment?? haha...) Anyway! Just watch it for the entertainment.
Watch till the last frames... "xxx number of Coke, xxx number of Mentos and... WAY TOO MUCH FREE TIME" -- tsk tsk.

There is a time for everything...
People. People young and old. People happy and sad. People in the midst of action; people in the depths of thought.
Here's a collection of people captured on film (ok, not quite film but XD card)... Click to enlarge.

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
And so, this is the time for me to concentrate on finishing my 2000-word essay! I so love doing assignments!

woo hoo!
As of 11th October 2007, I have officially worked for ONE YEAR. Woot! Randomly, I am going to post a couple of food pictures. (Quality of photos not fantastic coz they were taken using my mobile.)
First up, cereal cookies. Believe it or not, I had a hand in making these. Yum yum.

Next, dinner at Food for Thought. Let me do a little publicity for them... This is a little eatery across the street from the National Library. The cool thing is that part of their profits goes into charity and the people who work there are really nice and contagiously happy.

We were there to celebrate friends' birthdays. A whole pack of 20 people. Which explains the huge platter of food above. Slurp. Not featured, but also yummy, is the Cream of Mushroom - very organic and funky tasting (though extremely subjective).
Go support them if you can!

Cool Street Art
Stumbled upon this photograph --

Drawn by this artist called Julian Beever [website]. The 3D effect is really good, and it intrigues me coz you can't quite tell where the real world meets the illustrated world.
Just wondering what sort of life it will be if I could go round roaming the streets, doing something totally unconventional.

Cool Buildings
This morning, I went for a swim at Jalan Besar. And thereafter, feeling in the mood for a little more exercise and adventure (in the mildest form of the word), I decided to walk home. To my surprise, I discovered some cool buildings, hidden on quiet discreet streets.

back to student life
Had my first day of lessons back at NIE. Things are much more relaxing now that the practicum is over.
As I sat there in the classroom, half listening to the tutor and half daydreaming while checking my handphone... I felt great being a student again.
People have been asking me a lot these days about why I had wanted to be a teacher. I can't really answer that question. Painfully honest off-the-top-of-my-head answer would be that I've never really wanted to be a teacher. Haha.
But now, I may just be starting to stumble upon the reason - I LOVE BEING A STUDENT. As a mugger, I had totally enjoyed my school days. Perhaps that's why I want to continue to be in this environment. Perhaps I hope to share with many others their experiences as students.
Throughout the 10 weeks of practicum, there were so many occasions I looked at the students and wished I were one of them, as a 14/15-year-old all over again. Those must have been the most fun and crazy years... thanks to the friends around me. Ahh... good old days.

Singing in the Rain

"I'm singing in the rain... just singing in the rain
What a glorious feeling
I'm happy again...."
Had a great weekend. Went jogging at the Botanical Gardens yesterday, met the platoonmates for lunch, and then after tuition, came home to watch the film Singing in the Rain.
The film was mostly great fun - amusing and happy, with loads of singing and tap dancing. Made me feel like getting out of the sofa and jumping around. Haha. Classic.
Talalala burdum talalala... Bliss.
I'm a simple person who can be simply satisfied with the simple pleasures in life.

Bintan Trip

It's been a while! A much needed holiday! Just returned from a solo trip to Bintan. Was great to catch up with sleep, with taking photos, with myself and with God. ;-D Feeling recharged and ready for the next (relaxing) lap to finish off the training at NIE. Hurrahs!
Alrighty... let the photos do the talking!

Nirwana Beach Club. Used to be called Mana Mana when I was there 5 years ago. Wow, FIVE years ago... where has all the time in between gone to?

Strange composition for a photo... Blame it on self-timer mode.

Lurve the coconut trees...

I love coffee. yum yum slurp slurp.

Fantastic and glorious weather! I discovered that 70% of how captivating a beach is hinges upon the sunshine. Best when sun's shining brightly on a cloudless day.

Beach chairs, on which I spent a good part of my time. It's easy to doze off listening to the rhythmic crashing of waves ashore and feeling the gentle touch of sunshine and (sea/land?)breeze.

Ain't the sunset awwwweesome?
