Can You See Barbie as Lady Gaga?

One collector can. Here is a link to an article about the Pink Princess styled a la Lady Gaga.

Me, I think Barbie can do almost anything, so why not?

Graphic Novel About 1:6 Scale Vampires

Want more vampire stories? What about a modern vampire series that has humor AND pathos? There's a new graphic novel that covers that bill.

Men With Dolls regulars will need no introduction to Elizabeth Allen's Love Has Fangs photo stories, but for other doll and action figure collectors, here is the back story. You can view the series online, but the graphic novel has these scenes recast with doll and action figure actors. Whooo hooo!

You can buy the graphic novel from Lulu.

Fun reading for the YOUNG ADULT and the ADULT doll and action figure collector. Note: I mention young adult and adult because Love Has Fangs, like Roville in recent years, has adult themes.

Spanish Ken Blog! New 12 Inch Guys!

Universoplástico is a Spanish language blog maintained by a Venezuelan Ken collector.

Whether you know Spanish or want to learn it, you can enjoy the Ken and the other male fashion doll photos like Ricky Martin clones, etc. by viewing this blog. (As if we need to see more desirable dolls?) If you don't know Spanish, you can use a translating service like Google Translate or Yahoo Babel Fish.

¡qué lo paséis bien!

Juliana Heng Article About Assessing Your Collection

I came across this interesting article, Too Many Toys by Juliana Heng.

Ms. Heng's observations and comments could help anyone weighing the quantity of their collection. I am guilty of allowing my DAFs to invade other rooms - beyond my DAFZ (Doll and Action Figure Room) and my bedroom. There are some other points in that article that I recognize.

Doll Collector as Villain or Humanitarian?

A recent post on the DollyDaily blog laments the negative image of doll and action figure collectors on television shows [and in movies, my addition]. According to this stereotype, doll collectors are weird and dangerous nutjobs who either prize their plastic "idols" more than they do live people OR they seek to trap real humans into "doll" form for control.

Ooga booga ... BOO!

I'll take "weird" - my Mom disagrees, but she's a Mom. "Nutjob?" I'll argue that down to "creative" and "imaginative." Moving on ... "dangerous" ... meek little (cough, gasp) me? No way. Sure, I take dolls and figures off shelves and possibly deprive children of that doll or figure. Mostly though, I try to help people. I click on the Hunger Site daily. And there are lots of other collectors like me, who not only TRY to help people, they actually do help people.

Example: Rudi Teruel of R and D Dolls has found a way to help victims of the Filipino typhoon - please read more at his other blog

Example 2: Niel, a Filipino collector and dear contributor to Comments here at PhillyCollector, shares additional helpful information

Granted, they are two collectors, but there they are - helpful and concerned doll collectors. Concerned about living people. Because collecting dolls doesn't negate love and fondness for living people.

Murder Among Doll Collectors - Mystery by Deb Baker

I have read a lot of mystery and suspense novels, but I have JUST learned of a murder mystery involving doll collectors. Doll collecting is often a solitary hobby. Throw a doll collector club in though and well, read and see. Deb Baker is the author, but here is a link to Molly Weston's blog "Meritorious Mysteries" for the review of

Dolled up for Murder

I haven't read this book yet so I cannot comment on it. However, it is on my list of books to look for at the library or in the bookstores. I look forward to reading about other collectors - even fictional ones.
