Is Barbie Basics No.17 Moonlighting as a Teen Werewolf?

Gosh, the new-to-me male werewolf aka Clawd in the Monster High series by Mattel looks a lot like the Barbie Basics No. 17.

So is he a male model during the day and a wolf at night? Aaawwwwuuuuullllll.

At Last ... Barbie Basic AA Male (Steven?)

He's finally here in EastPhilly: the Black Barbie Basics male - possibly the new face of Steven? I haven't deboxed him yet, but I saw him in Target and before I knew it, he leapt into my shopping cart. (Cheeky fellow? Yes, indeed. I had NOOO intention of buying him at this time.) Moreover, he mesmerized me long enough to have me pass my credit information to the salesclerk. Then I bagged him (him being the Barbie Basics doll - of course!) and took the same him home. What a male doll!

Well, as long as he is here, he can help me gather the Kens and the Mattel Brothers of Ken together. He needs to do something to make up for his early entrance here ... something other than a "Wow, is he amazingly manscaped!"

By the way, does anyone know if this gentleman is "Black Ken" or the new "Steven?"

Michael Jackson Next to Barbie Basics in Kmart

Okay, Playmates has a new Michael Jackson Thriller doll - well, he's in the doll section, but really, he's more of a figurine. Yes, figurine, NOT figure. Figures are poseable and kin to dolls. Figurines belong with sculpture. My reasoning is if the figure has clothes molded on AND the body is set in an odd pose, it's a figurine. Not a doll. Not even an action figure. But some people use "doll" for sculpted human figures of any sort. Sigh.

So I thought, what if other collectors read about a Playmates/International MJ doll and think, Barbie beau. Well, as you can see, he's 10" and NOT 12" so he's dwarfed by the taller Barbies. Not that Barbie and friends can't date shorter guys. Then he's in a dance pose that won't have much range in non-video stories. At least, if a guy with that leer and that stance - approached me, well, cowardly me, I would run. Maybe shriek. Help. Or position myself in a defense pose.

That isn't criticism of the figure which I confess, I didn't stare at long enough to form a collector's opinion. More about the placement of the item. (What's a figurine doing in the doll section?)

There will be additional Michael Jackson figurines though. The Billie Jean one has a more doll/action figure stance. So Michael sculpture fans can have another choice.

Denim Barbie Basics Seen in Philly ....

I love the new gray tops and the denim bottoms on the new Barbie Basics line. I like the dolls, too. Wish that they weren't all Model Muse styled, but I love the face and the hair variety. Looking forward to seeing more of the line. Below are the first dolls I've seen, found in a Target on Bustleton Avenue below Cottman Avenue.

I didn't get any of these because I am not sure that I want any of these three dolls. Might, but I am not sure now.

Temptations at Target

I saw two of the Red Collection Barbie Basics (Target exclusives): No. 1, the pale, blond Barbie and No. 8, the brown-skinned, red haired Mbili. Big whoop, huh? Big whoop, YES! The Target Mbili has curly hair. Whoo, hoo! Textured hair.

Oh, I could curse Mattel for their artistry. The curly-hair makes that Mbili-faced doll pop. Even though I remind myself that I have several Mbili-faced dolls already - the first Raven, two AA Zodiac Barbies, Princess of South Africa, Vitamin C, and the first SIS Kara doll – I find myself considering this doll. Never mind that I want at least one each SIS character Trichelle, Chandra, and possibly Grace. Ah but is it Mattel or the weakness in me? The collector bug?

Aside: Target has the Princess to Frog Tiana on sale for $6.22 though. Possibly because they want to move on to the next Mattel-Disney franchise, Rapunzel. (Rapunzel dolls are now available.)

Mattel Barbie Basics Seen in Philly Today!

Yippee! Saw the Mattel Barbie Basics in Toys R Us today!

Models 005 Lea, 007 Gia, 010 Christie, and 011 Teresa impressed me, but my favorite of all was 012 Shannon. If I could only get ONE doll in this series, that would be the one. It's not that the others I mentioned lacked anything as much as it was that I only have one other doll with the Shannon mold - the 2005 Fashion Fever Shannon wearing blue metallic pants. But this new Barbie Basic Shannon has more realistic eyes and stunning honey brown hair and complexion. While beautiful, I could point to similar dolls I already own to match the others - except Gia. And while the Barbie Basics Gia is gorgeous, I could pass on her. Couldn't I?
