Waiting On The World To Change.
whilst that is in progress, i have moved to lj, as explained over there.
phago will obviously continue to exist, since i do still want to read back on everything i've written or rather typed. as with the consistence of my idea of blogging anyway.

Quirkology

i think they have it in a book form. I WANT IT. hahaha. i don't know why i indulge in books like that, above harry potter or another random novel. turns out, they did a research, and lookie!

verage time taken (in secs) to walk 60ft (about 18 meters)

FASTEST
1) Singapore (Singapore); 10.55:
2) Copenhagen (Denmark); 10.82:
3) Madrid (Spain); 10.89:
4) Guangzhou (China): 10.94:
5) Dublin (Ireland); 11.03:
6) Curitiba (Brazil); 11.13:
7) Berlin (Germany); 11.16:
8) New York (United States of America); 12.00:
9) Utrecht (Netherlands); 12.04:
10) Vienna (Austria); 12.06:
11) Warsaw (Poland); 12.07:
12) London (United Kingdom); 12.17:
13) Zagreb (Croatia); 12.20:
14) Prague (Czech Republic); 12.35:
15) Wellington (New Zealand); 12.62:
16) Paris (France); 12.65:
17) Stockholm (Sweden); 12.75:
18) Ljubljana (Slovenia); 12.76:
19) Tokyo (Japan); 12.83:
20) Ottawa (Canada); 13.72:
21) Harare (Zimbabwe); 13.92:
22) Sofia (Bulgaria); 13.96:
23) Taipei (Taiwan): 14.00:
24) Cairo (Egypt); 14.18:
25) Sana’a (Yemen); 14.29:
26) Bucharest (Romania); 14.36:
27) Dubai (United Arab Emirates); 14.64:
28) Damascus (Syria); 14.94:
29) Amman (Jordan); 15.95:
30) Bern (Switzerland); 17.37:
31) Manama (Bahrain); 17.69:
32) Blantyre (Malawi); 31.60.

look at the difference! turns out we rank the fastest walking populated city in the world way above new york and japan and Singapore showing a 30% increase since the 1990s. and thats more than the 20% guangzhou managed. HAHA. then you'll be wondering what the heck it has to do with something practical. turns out, a study carried out in the early 1990s demonstrated that pedestrians’ speed of walking provides a reliable measure of the pace of life in a city, and that people in fast-moving cities are less likely to help others and have higher rates of coronary heart disease. Using identical methods to those employed in the previous work, the present day research teams discovered that the pace of life is now 10% faster than in the early 1990s.

what do you know. CIP is overrated. can you imagine shopping in manama, given that the metro tampines closing down sale was sucha jam?

coolio!

we have a sandwich vending machine! like those along hospital ward corridors though it takes 90 seconds to heat up it really is quite convinient for the times when you get hungry and the canteen simply isn't quite that appetite inducing or they just decide to stop selling food or run out of it. don't we all know that after nearly 10 years of canteen food. rebecca and i tried, after much queueing behind a whole other group of excited people waiting for the toast to be ready. miss martens came to queue up behind us! kena shocked.

anyway, the day before we had chisholm college perform for us in the school hall. it was an entertaining performance though i thought the school hall just isn't good for band performances. the hilight of it all was when miss martens took the conductor's baton as invited and did a snazzy impromptu. the best part? mr de asked janaine to take photos and we took a video of that! HA! once i eventually recive the file, i shall upload it!

miss martens was the best thing that has happened to SAC, as a whole.

Necessary Evil

LIVE EARTH CONCERTS.

i see comments saying its such a contradiction that the live earth concerts actually promote concern and awareness of our climate crisis when they have their backdrop decorated with lightbulbs, amplifying the tunes and encouraging people to stick to their tv sets for 24 hours. true.

i can't disagree that the backdrop is such a dissapointment. i expected something along the lines of solar powered flashing led lights or something. ohohoh! and the murals were probably just cardboard and paint. hahahahahaha.

then again, apart from what i expected it to be, if they did it any differently, the message just wouldn't be strong enough. like if it were a two hour concert of only american artists then only americans and fans of the american artists will care to watch and be influenced by the propaganda going on. not forgetting they have to jam pack all the respective genres of music to appeal to everyone. then the other parts of the world leh? so if they had a monumental 24 hours marathon across the globe wouldn't that grab everyone's attention so they can work their "answer the call" propaganda on those who do? then a global concern would equate to a golbal effort, thus global impact, right? compared to say americans getting concerned and only their air is good, only their sea is clean, only their people care which eventually wears off because there's no pressure to keep up with everyone else in time to come.

so let's weigh. a one time 24 hour concert, plus the countless 10 seconds answer the call commercials inbetween was enough to make me reject a plastic bag to carry my ice kachang home. so if everyone did that and more, wouldn't we be showing in our own little ways that we do care about the electrical source 50 years down the road? that very same concert would be impactful enough to sustain a global effort. plus with all the people concerned of the environment now, philips bulbs and spin detergent (so far) are ripping off the publicity live earth gets. which means amplified sales! haha. and we all know where that leads to.

sooooo if the issue about saving electricity while watching the broardcast of live earth rises again, just go to your friends house to watch it. HAHA. if every groups of friends watched the live earth concert together, we would salvage 20 thousand pounds of fossil fuels. answer the call. HAHAHHAHAHA. well, its a better way to argue for movie marathon than just because you haven't seen your friends in a long time! right becky, maxine and qian? by the way, i made that up. the part about salvaging fossil fuels.

GREEN DAY!

see the ties and socks and shoes?
save our earth! embrace mother nature! heh.
all in support of live earth!

and the class shots with a few teachers. heh. OHOHOH! miss martens dropped by twice. once to say something like along side knowledge and etc, one needs humor to succeed in life. and another to tell us that she made her day and wanted to take a look at 4.7 once more before she got back and wanted a photo of us. becky went hysterical when miss martens held her camera. she took a shot of us, but we didn't ask her to take it with us! WTHHHHHHHH. i wanted one. especially when we're all in shrek ears! darn. she bade goodbye calling us shrekkies! and miss lim, who saw practically the class marching down to recess together at the stairs, called us shreckettes or something like that! geezbeez, the press lied. more on that after the long parade of photos

don't this resemble singapore, abit?

RAMDOM AHEAD!
while waiting on the world to change.

from left, goondugoondu, kutukutu, muthumuthu and tutututu! don't ask. and yes i am aware that i'm actually licelice.
i wonder when i would get to wear that again

anyway, enough of pictures. during chinese, when we were all banded, she came went to our classroom to announce that the press would come at 1.30! and when the whole class eventually found out we got so excited that we actually put up the pretty curtains. hahaha. wow. but its really tardily done. i'm quite scared i'll fall and the clips/pens that we used to hold in in place would hit somebody. we should really get the hooks soon. anywayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, we waited. and waited. full of anxiety and even chattered about who should talk/get interviewed when they came. past 1.30pm. 1.45pm. we went to the office to ask and was instructed to send the class to eat and be back by 2.15pm. at 2.16pm, our class was SOOOOOO ready. quiet, staring, waiting. nothing. tutorials took a long time. 4.00pm. no news. asked again and we kena cheated! hurhurhur. oh well. at least we got to know we were news worthy for the whole 41 wearing shrek ears. and forcing the teachers who come in to.

oh welllllllllllll. on the side note, this week seemed shorter than last weeks! although it feels as though we're a month into the term already. hur. and i can't believe they sheduled mock exams at the third week onwards. its interrupting my study timetable. anyway, its suppose to just revision anyway. not studying.

Cubieeeeeeeeee

the fastest time solved ever was the time taken to walk home from the bus stop. yayyyyyyyy! i'm begining to hate the fact that i rely on the algorithms to solve the last layer. though i'm quite happy that the youtube video jolena and i watched on speed-cubing at an ungodly 4am actually got us hooked onto it, and in turn we started a cubing revolution in school. mel tsang came to me and told me everybody's playing that while i was twisting away at recess. hahahaha. rebecca told me i can try dsa though solving cubes! HAHAHAHA. i'd like that very much to.

recess was food sharing time. my granny made me a salad and not only did it pack me with vitamins and nutrients, it fed a bunch of other classmates eying strawberry slices, hotdog strips and crisp butterhead. i like bring my own food to school. it spares the time wasted on queueing and doesn't pack me with unhealthy amounts of carbohydrate which eventually turns into fats when we don't burn it off and in sec four, the only shot you got at that would be brain activity. hahahaha.

I Read More Than I Think I Do

it's just how knowledgeable the reading material gets. well in my case, apart from happy potter, that book, freakonomics, pros and cons, a short history of nearly everything, and textbooks, its BLOGS. and the bulk comes from blogs. harharhar.

and that's what i have been doing this holiday besides going to school be it tutorials, tuition, taking chinese O levels, camp, training sessions. for the fun of it all i did a calculation. 46.4% of the time i'm in school. not counting weekends, its 65% of the time i'm in school. well, sure looks like alot more.

though i'd rather it continue the holiday. or at least what we recognise this period to be. pity it all ends tomorrow. back to waking up at 6.30am. and i suddenly realized i no longer have to cover prefect duties. since the last time in sec one, i've never stood with my class before. HOW FUN! AND no more exco meetings! NO MORE! NO MORE! though the rest of the day would be dreadful. as we know it. and as i know it, i should really stop injecting doses of negative messages. it really is taking effect.

Saturday, June 23, 2007 8:51 pm
ALOT.

so i'm just not going to bother very much about making it comprehendible. afterall, comments from the social studies MYE paper told me i can't anyway.

prefects training session! we went back. sat there. and watched. and talked. and ate. and became very touched. the gave us a real farewell =) they made a powerpoint and all and added funny captions. then every prefect who was there kinda like shook our hands or like said something nice and so did the council =) stephanie gave us all kisses and i screamed when she did. although i wasn't the first person i stood in front of i kinda didn't notice what she did. HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. we recorded a special one. but, miso is not going to let me post it. pfft. nevermind. this was a shot before IT happened.

her shadows gave her johnny love, that bear in the photo above with everybody left! NOT FAIR. JOANNN. I AM JEALOUS. i promised the solid fuel and they were delivered lor. now where's your end of the deal? HUR? this is so pathetic. i even have to bargain for a present. Anywayyyyyy...

peirong baked yet another yummy cake! thank you runner!for the strawberry and banana confection. yumyum. dined at 85 again. and i can't believe i waited 30 minutes for a bowl of bakchormee.

met becky and went back to school in plain clothes! the security guard actually let us in =) well we weren't suppose to go in away but something happened which had rebecca complaining for quite some time. then we head of in search of kim's birthday present and resorted to the typical kiasu singaporean tactics at borrowing ink. HAHAHA. we nearly got caught for that.

played pool! and laughed abit before we were once again on the bus on our way to mrs chong's condo for a bbq.
HAPPY BELATED HOEBO!

before i could say a nice goodbye my parents came to pick me up and rush to golden mile. janaine, clarisa and mrs chong sent me off =)

on the bus at ten. off at 4am and we were breathing KL air for another six and a half hours before the front desk allowed checking in. so we ate prata. walked to some hotel and sat on the couch to sleep. that obviously wasn't very glam. and then we had bakkutteh. and slept more. till the cruel wait was over.

KL was not very fun. although getting money and spending it was! i hate being not recognised and have people think i'm some wedding crasher or something. i think i'll refuse to attend any other relatives weddings. especially when they don't even know me. hur. on the side note. the wedding was rather interesting. they had this like getai singer to emcee the games part and it wasn't so boring. i got videos of that but its all in cantonese so i'd rather not post it since not many are going to understand that. i ate alot. well at least there's no more SAF.

went to vivo with adlin becky yiggie and AH-NA! we sat. we ate. we walked around. jolena and i chased some dude with a real rubik's cube to ask where he bought it. and we got ourselves each a cube. HAHAHA. adlin and i tried to put some dresses on the three. which kinda worked. abit. HAHAHA. but pity we didn't get photos of that.

froze icepops for becky and delivered them to her house today. twas fun selling with the guides and eating dinner with rachel, who described how she had black-grey-green liquid drew from her gland over cookies.
