Two Babes in a Manger

This is a beautiful story. Read it and let the spirit of the season touch your heart......

In 1994, two Americans answered an invitation from the Russian Department of Education to teach morals and ethics (based on biblical principles) in the public schools. They were invited to teach at prisons, businesses, the fire and police departments and a large orphanage. About 100 boys and girls who had been abandoned, abused, and left in the care of a government-run program were in the orphanage. They relate the following story in their own words:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was nearing the holiday season, 1994, time for our orphans to hear, for the first time, the traditional story of Christmas. We told them about Mary and Joseph arriving in Bethlehem. Finding no room in the inn, the couple went to a stable, where the baby Jesus was born and placed in a manger.
Throughout the story, the children and orphanage staff sat in amazement as they listened. Some sat on the edges of their stools, trying to grasp every word. Completing the story, we gave the children three small pieces of cardboard to make a crude manger. Each child was given a small paper square, cut from yellow napkins I had brought with me. No colored paper was available in the city.
Following instructions, the children tore the paper and carefully laid strips in the manger for straw. Small squares of flannel, cut from a worn-out nightgown an American lady was throwing away as she left Russia, were used for the baby's blanket. A doll-like baby was cut from tan felt we had brought from the United States. The orphans were busy assembling their manger as I walked among them to see if they needed any help.
All went well until I got to one table where little Misha sat. He looked to be about 6 years old and had finished his project. As I looked at the little boy's manger, I was startled to see not one, but two babies in the manger. Quickly, I called for the translator to ask the lad why there were two babies in the manger. Crossing his arms in front of him and looking at this completed manger scene, the child began to repeat the story very seriously. For such a young boy, who had only heard the Christmas story once, he related the happenings accurately-until he came to the part where Mary put the baby Jesus in the manger.
Then Misha started to ad-lib. He made up his own ending to the story as he said, "And when Maria laid the baby in the manger, Jesus looked at me and asked me if I had a place to stay. I told him I have no mamma and I have no papa, so I don't have any place to stay. Then Jesus told me I could stay with him. But I told him I couldn't, because I didn't have a gift to give him like everybody else did.
But I wanted to stay with Jesus so much, so I thought about what I had that maybe I could use for a gift. I thought maybe if I kept him warm, that would be a good gift. So I asked Jesus, "If I keep you warm, will that be a good enough gift?" And Jesus told me, "If you keep me warm, that will be the best gift anybody ever gave me." "So I got into the manger, and then Jesus looked at me and he told me I could stay with him---for always."
As little Misha finished his story, his eyes brimmed full of tears that splashed down his little cheeks. Putting his hand over his face, his head dropped to the table and his shoulders shook as he sobbed and sobbed. The little orphan had found someone who would never abandon nor abuse him, someone who would stay with him-FOR ALWAYS. I've learned that it's not what you have in your life, but who you have in your life that counts.
Happy 1st Birthday Zeke!
Our little Zeke is 1! We are so happy he made it to his birthday!
If we didn't have to worry about germs I would throw a huge birthday party and invite everyone who has prayed, fasted, donated, called, and supported Zeke. So know that you are all loved and appreciated. We could not have made it through 2011 as well as we did without so much love and support.
4 days ago Zeke decided he would start crawling and has discovered he can get into just about anything. I need to baby proof a little better. His new favorite past time is pulling all the movies off the bottom shelf and laughing while doing it. I think he knows he is being devious.
It's been a wild ride. We are so grateful he is still here with us. He is a delightful baby.
What is Liberty? Awesome videos!
When I was in school I hated history, I hated economics, I hated political science, I hated it all because I could not find a way to understand any of it. I didn't know where to start, and the beginning of time wasn't my first choice. All it was to me was a bunch of wars, horrible national debt, and presidents who people either loved or hated. There was no middle ground. I didn't know what the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence was really about, and I didn't know how any of it applied to me.
Well...I've grown up (a little) and obtained more education on my own than I ever learned in school and now I'm hooked on history and don't hate it. I have to say, Mr. Moore was my favorite history teacher in 7th grade, and was incredible. Mr. Jones was my favorite teacher in 10th grade, and peaked my interest into figuring out my own answers. They were amazing teachers and I wish I would have had them for every history class I took.
Unless I wasn't paying attention (which did happen of course, but I was a good student), I'm pretty sure pubic school left out the most important topic. Personal Liberty. The right to your life, and to do what you will as long as you don't hurt others along the way. Volumes of books have been written on this topic to define what it means to be able to do what you please as long as you don't hurt others. It seems simple right? Well, it is. We have made it more complicated over the years.
As many of you know we support Ron Paul in this presidential campaign because he supports Liberty. He has the most consistent record of overturning laws that conflict with the Constitution and individual liberty. He has always stayed true to what is right and what will help the economy grow naturally rather than artificially with bailouts, stimulus, and empty promises. He will bring the troops home and end the wars, he will let you keep your income tax and he'll audit the federal reserve, he won't hold prisoners forever without a right to a trial, he will shrink the size of government, he will cut $1 Trillion bucks out of the ridiculous so called "budget." A lot of people don't think he has a chance because they don't see him on tv. Well, he's being completly ignored on tv because no one knows how to compete with him. He is all over the internet. He raised a million bucks from the 5th to the 7th and is at the top of the polls.
When it comes to voting, I have found it is better to vote your conscience. Don't vote for Ron Paul if you don't like him. Don't vote for Romney or Huntsman just because they are Mormon. That doesn't mean anything. Don't vote for Gingrich just because he is the guy who has been around forever. Don't vote for Perry because he's funny...he actually forgot what he was talking about during one debate...I'm not sure he actually has a plan. Don't vote for Bachmann just because she is a woman, don't vote for Cain just because he's black (he's out of the race for now anyway), and don't vote for Obama just because you want a democrat. Party platforms hold no suit. They are all the same. Vote for principal. It is better to vote for who you feel would actually make a difference in our struggling nation, even if they don't win. If everyone voted for someone who stood for principal, we wouldn't have to worry about voting between the "lesser of two evils." If both choices are no good, then not voting at all seems to be the best choice. Why support someone who you don't like? `
Here are a few videos that I have found helpful. I hope you watch them.
Ron Paul and 27 years of consistency. His rhetoric and actions over the years ACTUALLY match. Rare for politicians.
The Philosophy of Liberty. I love this one.
Money As Debt. This is the fastest 45 minute education you will ever have. Fractional reserve banking rules the world. What is it? Watch and learn why our money system is failing and why we should go back to the gold standard.
Why is it so hard to achieve the American dream? This one is a little inappropriate, but makes a ton of great points, and is hilarious! You'll learn a lot.
Books!
In this technological age books get a little left out. Here are few I am still working on.
"The Uncle Eric Series" by, Richard Maybury - The first, my favorite and the most basic is, "Whatever happened to Penny Candy?" It's a book about why candy can't cost a penny anymore and what is happening to the currency.
"The Creature from Jekyll Island" by, G. Edward Griffen. All about the creation of the Federal Reserve and how taxation has hurt our economy more than helped it.
"Latter Day Liberty" by, Connor Boyack. Liberty defined in a secular and religious context. Connor is a friend and has sold 1,200 books in his first two weeks of having it published! Awesome!
"Liberty Defined" by, Ron Paul. 50 essential issues that affect our freedom.
I know this is a lot. It's taken me a few years to learn this much, and of course there is always so much more to learn. I hope you put a few of these ideas on that shelf in the brain where things can stew for a while. Happy learning! =)
Timber!
This weekends project was chopping down a HUGE tree for some friends of friends...good thing we know a guy who had all the tools and let Royal borrow them so he didn't have to worry about falling out of the tree. Good thing all the neighbors had a few chain saws. Good thing Royal knows how to climb high trees. He is totally bruised and cut up, but he had a fun time. And the neighbors don't have to worry about a tree full of snow falling through their roof. :)
This was day 2...there was a lot more tree the day before. Royal blends right in.
Too bad a desk job isn't this fun...
I heard all the neighbors say, "the tree is leaning over the house! go! go! go!"
luckily the monster limb was attached to Shiloh...and the car didn't hurt either...
and it missed the fence by inches...good day.
It was a cold day and I think my battery got too cold to keep working...I thought I had a picture of all the people helping but I don't. It was a party with bagels, donuts, hot chocolate, and amazed little kids.
A Second Heart Transplant for Kaidence
This heart world is scary and incredible place. I came across this sweet little girl's blog, have been following it for a while, and received permission to share it here. It's amazing the connections you can make with people without meeting in person. Little Kaidence is 4 years old and is in need of a SECOND heart transplant. Yeesh. Poor girl. And quite the fighter. Her community is hosting a benefit concert this Saturday the 3rd, 6pm at Bountiful High School. Also an event called "cupcakes 4 Kaidence!" (which you can also "like" on facebook). It is to be held on Monday December 12th from 5-8pm at 95 North Main St. in Bountiful Utah. Beautiful piano entertainment will be performed by Paul Cardall, award renowned musician and heart transplant recipient. For complete information, you can visit Kaidence's blog at http://4mykaidence.blogspot.com/. She has an incredible story and asks her mom everyday when she will get a new heart so she doesn't have to go back to heaven. What a smart sweet girl. Good luck to a strong family. May God be with you.
Zeke Can Sit Himself Up!...and Gems of Gratitude
Today was full of whining and fit throwing...I feel like I need to post the things I am thankful for so the little things that frustrate me don't take over.
- Zeke has been sitting himself up for a week now! He has finally figured out how to go from laying to sitting without help. He crawls forward with his hands but his feet don't follow. His birthday is in a few weeks and I don't think he'll be crawling but he is getting close!
- I slept 9 straight hours last night! That has not happened in all of 2011.
- I had FOUR workouts this week! It was a good mix of yoga, running, weights and intense zumba cardio. Cardio is my favorite, and I can run a mile without feeling like I am going to fall over! None of which has happened in all of 2011. I am finally starting to feel stronger. :)
- I am grateful for our Thanksgiving dinner. We gave thanks for NOT cooking or cleaning a thing. We went to a buffet with a few friends and spent just as much on a turkey but didn't have to cook it. We passed around the hand sanitizer and Zeke is still healthy.
- I am grateful for a husband who cooks, cleans, changes diapers, takes care of kids, works, does house projects, helps our neighborhood teenagers with homework, takes care of Sub Zero, and does it all with a smile. We had our 6th anniversary last weekend and even with all the crazy things that have happened this year, I wouldn't trade being married to him for anything.
I know you're supposed to take pictures with your spouse on an anniversary, but alas, this is what got captured instead. :)
- I am grateful for all the friends and family we have seen in the last week. We even had our friends the Stevenson's sleep over! They used to live around the corner and we have missed them terribly since they moved. It was fabulous to stay up late talking and catch up on life. We love them. :)
- I am grateful for all the leaves that fell off the trees yesterday. The kids had a fabulous time playing in them today.
- I am grateful to have avoided black friday.
- I am grateful our kids were happy with a Saturday outing to the car wash with free vacuums...although bummed we lost our Ron Paul magnet to the soapy octopus arms inside the wash cycle. I hope they find it.
- I am grateful for Sub Zero. And especially our manager Abby. She is awesome!
- I am grateful for mascara.
- I am grateful that while watching tv, I understand the conversation between characters about cardiomyopathy.
- I am grateful for connections with other "heart moms."
- I am grateful for warmth in the winter.
- I am grateful for the Cosby Show, and Malcom in the Middle on Netflix...they bring humor and perspective to life...both of which I often need more of.
- I guess I'm grateful for all the whining that comes from my little people...it makes me enjoy them when they are happy.
- I am grateful to finally feel that I am not just trying to survive day to day. I am starting to enjoy day to day a little more.
- I am grateful for a God in Heaven who I can turn to in prayer. I would have been lost this year without a spiritual connection. Life would be so empty without a higher purpose.
I hope you all had a fabulous week of giving thanks. :)
Halloween
Little balancing bee
Little Ariel...Andelyn has been asking to be Ariel for 2 years now. I don't know how to sew or be creative in this department. Luckily, my friend Jenny is an AWESOME seamstress and for $10 bucks in fabric she figured out how to put this together. I don't love to sew, she doesn't love to clean, so...I cleaned her house while she happily sewed. It was a great trade and our kids had a fantastic time playing all day...for a few days. Kids=never finishing a project in one day. Jenny even took orders for costumes and made a bunch of kids really happy. She is taking orders for next year!...okay I don't know this for sure. Jenny I just signed you up. :) Check out her blog and leave a comment if you are interested in a home-made-won't-fall-apart-costume. supermomstrikesagain.blogspot.com
mmmm sugar...
And another Jenny special...Titan wore his Spiderman pj shirt he wore last year. But...this year he was "Titan-Man!" He loved, and still loves to "fwy" around the house with his cape. Thanks Jenny!
Yum!
Happy Birthday Titan! 3!
Happy birthday Titan!
I feel like our little man has been a little forgotten this year with all the hospital craziness so I tried to make today a happy one. We took cupcakes to the play group out side so we could avoid germs and the stress of planning a party. The kids got to run, rest, carve a pumpkin, stuff their faces, play with more friends, and eat candy. It was a good day. Here is his life so far. :)
6 days old and ready for action
My loves
Little old man! :)
1 year old!
love those baby hands
hugs!
2 years old! "booger mommy!" (see what's on his finger? gross)
"Horseee!!!"
mmmm color...
Sprinkles by Titan :)
We must have been really loud
mmmmmm
We carved a pumpkin...one specifically for baking...and cooked taco soup in it. It was really tasty! We baked the seeds and stuffed ourselves full all day.
I started carving the words "happy birthday" but that would have taken way too long. So here we are with the simple 3.
Happy birthday Titan we love you!
