Manjalara Monkeys - They Survived!

These 2 photos are taken from my previous post The last of the Manjalara Macaque Monkeys - Macaca fascicularis dated 8th September 2008. During that time, there were still lots of trees around this area and the construction of Tesco Hypermarket (Kepong Village) was at its' initial stage.
Recently, while I was walking towards Top Kitchen, I saw this very same family of monkeys are still around. I was very happy to see them surviving well after my last sighting 2 years ago. I hope they will not chop down more trees and let these monkeys continue living in this area.
Mmmmm, maybe with hypermarkets and MBO cinema in this area, they have turned into urban monkeys!

The last of the Manjalara Macaque Monkeys - Macaca fascicularis

A family of Macaque Monkeys............................The leader staring at me! Howdy! (Sorry, pictures are not clear as they are high up in the tree and the morning sun was shinning into my camera) Only a few trees left!..............................................A shopping complex construction site. These macaque monkeys(Binomial name, Macaca fascicularis) have been staying in this area (Manjalara, Kepong, Kuala Lumpur) for a very long time. Now that the last piece of their habitat here will be developed, they have nowhere to go. Their home is surrounded by modern infrastructures like highways and buildings. The nearest undeveloped area is more than 5km away and I don’t think the whole tribe can make it there safely. I saw one of the female monkeys is carrying a small baby. As you can see from the pictures there are not many trees left. I think they are surviving from leftovers food from nearby restaurants. I don’t blame them if they invade the homes nearby for food as we humans have encroached in to their habitat. I sure hope that they can find their way out from here quick because a big shopping complex will be built in this land.
