Yen Shabu Shabu, Manjalara, Kepong - Nice Family Lunch Outing

I have eaten in this nice shabu shabu restaurant 2 times last month but didn’t get to write this post until now because I was really tied up with my work. I have passed by this restaurant many times whenever I go to Tuck Kee in Taman Bukit Maluri in Kepong but never tried the food until recently. It is located in the same building as White Coffee and next to Shell Petrol station. Yen Shabu Shabu which is located on the first floor has a very nice and ambient dining atmosphere. What I like most is that the service is good and the people here are friendly. They use individual induction cooker for heating up the soup pot, so you don’t have to worry about your kids being burnt.

There are 4 kinds of soup for you to choose from; Tomyam, Chicken, Herbal and Hot Pepper soup. I would recommend the herbal soup which has very nice Tong Kwai aroma. One thing you will notice when you drink the soup is that it taste naturally sweet. The friendly lady boss told me that they use fruits and chicken bones to boil the soup. No wonder it taste so good and I did not feel thirsty after drinking almost 2 bowls! One of the owner and family members is a supplier of fresh steamboat product, so the food you get here is really fresh! Ala carte choices are available everyday except Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, which only buffet is available. They have a conveyor system circulating around the tables so that you can choose the food of your choice easily without leaving your table.

Yeh Shabu Shabu is very generous with the sauces and garnishing. There are six types of sauces available; satay, tomyam, chicken rice chilly sauce, ginger sauce, sweet sauce and special sauce. Generous amount of spring onions, fried garlic, fried shallots, chillies and soya sauce are available on a serving table. I was there with my family for lunch one weekend. The total bill for a set of 2 person dish, four soups, ala cart dishes from the conveyor, drinks, ice creams and some fried ala cart dishes came up to be RM44.80 (4 adults and 2 children).

Conveyor system going around the tables for you to choose your choice of food. The nice ambient dining atmosphere.

Lets’ Lok! - Chinese New Year Lok Lok Party!

My lovely neighbour invited my family over to her dad’s house for a lok lok party to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Her dad booked a lok lok van to cater for the party. My kids love lok lok and they were looking forward to the party. We reached the venue around 6.45 pm but the lok lok guy was late, he was caught up in a jam because of the rain. Anyway, he arrived 15 minutes later and started preparing the van to start the party. The lok lok van has many kinds of food on bamboo sticks and all of them are arranged neatly on trays with ice to keep them fresh. Ok, I will try to remember all the types of food that were offered that night; fish balls, fu chuk (fried bean curd), squid, sausage, meat ball, sotong (squid) balls, crab sticks, bacon, chicken, lamb, pork, Taiwan Sausage, pickled octopus, jellyfish, lobak (meat rolls), water convolvulus (kang kong), bak kua (sweet bbq meat), mushroom, mussels, tofu and many more that I can’t remember! There are three ways you can cook the food; one is to dip them in the boiling water like eating steamboat, grill it over the electric grill or deep fry them in the hot oil pot. As usual, three types of sauce are available; satay, very spicy chilly and sweet black sauce. Styrofoam containers and tissue papers are provided so that you won’t have sauce dripping all over the place. After consuming your meal, you just have to throw away the sticks and container into the big garbage bag provided by the lok lok man! The lok lok man was busy all night helping us to grill and deep frying the food. Everyone had a yummy good time tucking in to the sumptuous food on the lok lok van! This is a convenient way to have a party! I did not manage to snap a photo of the name of the van but I think it was Cheng Huat Lok Lok and the contacts are 019 6155552 & 03 91025166. Here are some of the photos I took!
Ready, get set, go......Lets' Lok!

Aiya! Date at Tanjung Rambutan Cancelled!

Note : I passed through this place on 31st July 2010 and found that this restaurant is closed. A new one is operating at this location.
My Pre contract training group had earlier planned to have our ‘gila-gila’ (crazy) dinner and also farewell party for one of our hardworking branch staff at Restoran (restaurant) Tanjung Rambutan in Desa Aman Puri, Kepong. My business partner and I actually dropped by this all you can eat barbecue and steamboat restaurant a fortnight ago to evaluate the suitability of the place for our group dinner. We arrived there around 5.30pm, a little early; they have not finished setting up the steamboat buffet spread. Therefore I did not manage to snap any photo of the food the restaurant has to offer. Anyway, we found the place quite suitable to have our little 20 pax party. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have to change our venue to Johnny’s steamboat in 1 Utama. Sigh, cannot go ‘gila-gila’ already! Ha ha ha! Sorry, no food review this time!

Ho Ho Steamboat Restaurant, Manjalara, Kepong

Actually I would rather eat steamboat at home rather than eating out. Anyway, we ended up having our family meal at Ho Ho Steamboat in Manjalara, Kepong. They have been operating this branch for quite some time and my friend told me that their seafood is fresh. We ordered a steamboat set for 6 persons at a price of RM13.50 per person. The set came with all the usual steamboat stuff like fishball, fish meat, white tofu, fried tofu pok, pork balls, sui kow, prawns, fu chuk, fried yam and the long worm like fish paste. We also ordered an extra big plate of Golden Mushroom because my daughter likes them. My friend was right; the seafood here is really fresh and sweet! I like the fried yam. It has a nice soft powdery texture. The total bill plus drinks came up to be RM103.40.

Desa Park City Steamboat – Ketam Village (Individual Pot) - Pork Free

I took my kids to Desa Park City playground a fortnight ago, together with their cousin. They played until almost dinner time and we hopped over to Ketam Village Steamboat in Desa Park City Commercial Complex. I understand they also have an outlet in IKANO. This restaurant was packed with diners when we walked in. One thing good about this place is there are plenty of space in the corridors to add chairs and tables. In no time, the helpful staff arranged a place for us, 5 adults and 4 children. You can dine here and enjoy the view of Desa Park City at night. I like the concept of this type of individual pot steamboat (normal steamboat have one big pot that everyone shares). Each person will have their individual pot to cook whatever they like from the set dish or ala carte dish. Tomyam and clear soups are available here. Individual induction cookers are used here to fire up the individual steamboat pot and only stainless steel pots will be heated. Therefore you will not feel hot unlike the normal gas type of steamboat pot which will radiate lots of heat to it’s’ surroundings. Here are the pictures of some of the sets we ordered and also how the induction cooker looks like. The restaurant sign.............................................Individual induction cooker. Put your hand inside. You will not get burned....The heat controller Individual set starting from RM15.80...............Double combo set for lovers! LOL If you like more varieties, you can order these sets or go for ala carte. One of the sets we ordered. Two types of nice and hot chili. The green one is cabai burung (bird eye chili) Clear soup.............................................................or....Tomyam soup My daugthers clear soup pot...............................My tomyam one, all ready to eat.
