Pit Stop, Restoran Makanan dan Minuman Taman Ipoh Timur (Ipoh Garden East Restaurant)

Restoran Makanan dan Minuman Taman Ipoh Timur (Ipoh Garden East Restaurant) is a favourite neighbourhood restaurant located in Ipoh Garden East, not very far away from Jaya Jusco. This restaurant is one of my favourite 'pit stop' for food whenever I travel up North. Patrons are spoilt for choice of hawker food in here! Although this restaurant has been around for (if I am not mistaken) almost 20 years, it is still a popular choice for residents in this area to have a cuppa of coffee and food.

My daughter chose to have her favouirite Ipoh Hor Fun (RM2.80). Quite generous serving of shredded chicken meat. Light soup with smooth hor fun, just the way my daughter likes it.

My wife opted for chicken with roast pork rice. Nice roast pork!

It has been quite a while since I last ate the wantan mee, so I ordered a plate. It cost RM2.30 and I get 5 pcs of wantans with the soup provided.

As usual, my son would go for Western food. He ordered Chicken Chop (RM8). Quite a generous serving of fries.

The drinks price list on the white board!

Kpoh Restaurant, Desa Aman Puri, Kepong, KL, Authentic Ipoh Food

Unfortunately, This restaurant has since closed down.....

Errrr, what's this ar? Smells good......taste a little....
Wah, yum yum......., so tasty, this Ipoh Hor Fun! Thumbs up....
Arrrrrr, this way faster....., slurp, slurp.......slurrrrrrppppp,
I would try to bring my kids for a walk or cycling every weekend so that I can spend quality family time with them. After a good round of walking and exercising at Desa Park City lakeside, we decided to go for our morning breakfast. I wanted to have it in a cozy and quiet place so that I can chat peacefully with my kids. We drove to Desa Aman Puri which is not very far away from Desa Park City and settled down to have our breakfast at Kpoh Restoran that serves authentic Ipoh food. I have driven by this area many times but never tried the food here, although Kpoh has been for around a year or so. What amazed me is that, after a year plus, they still managed to keep this restaurant squeaky clean. No wonder it is categorized by the local Town Council as Class A Restaurant which means the highest standard for cleanliness. Here are the "Ipoh Mari" fares we ate, My daughter loves Ipoh Hor Fun, so we ordered this bowl of Kai Si (Chicken Meat) Hor Fun plus bihun (rice vermicelli) for her. This flavourful Hor Fun has generous serving of Ku Chai (Chinese Chives) and shredded chicken meat. On top of that it is garnished with spring onions and prawns. Although the soup looks clear, it is very tasty and delicious. My daughter commented that Kpoh's Hor Fun tasted very much nicer than the ones that she usually eat at those kopitiam franchise outlets. I guess she would bug me again to eat here next weekend! LOL!The Hor Fun cost RM4.50 (USD1.40) per bowl.
My wife settled for the curry mee (RM4.50, USD1.40) which the friendly owner told us is different from those creamy types you usually find in KL. The spicy chilly based gravy tasted a little like the Curry Mee I had in Pantai Remis. For those who like spicy stuff, this curry mee is for you.
I normally eat Chee Cheong Fun with Har Ko (prawn paste) but this time around I tried out the Mushroom Chee Cheong Fun at this outlet. The Chee Cheong Fun has light gravy with a tinge of sesame oil aroma. It is garnished with Chee Mau (fried sesame), crispy shallots, mushroom slices and spring onions. I like the smooth chee cheong fun and the light but savoury gravy. A plate like this cost RM4.00 (USD 1.20)
For some light snack we ordered the Sengkuang (Turnips) which is a turnip based filling kuih (snacks) wrapped with foo pei (bean sheets, tau poey in Hokkien, lobak skin). These ‘Sengkuang’ is crispy and fresh. Actually, it taste a bit like the TeowChew ‘Kuang Chiang Kuih’ which has similar ingredients with this Sengkuang wrap. The Sengkuang tasted yummy with the chilly that accompanied it. The Sengkuang wrap cost RM3 for 3 pieces.
The clean and tidy restaurant. Good for family meals and friends outing . Menu with photos to help you with your choice of food to order.
Refreshing and cool Chrysanthemum tea. (RM1.60)

A Quickie Dinner at Tambun Chan Heng Restaurant, Sunway City Ipoh

It was around dinner time when we passed through Ipoh, on my way back to Penang during the recent Chinese New Year holidays. My wife suggested that we stopped by in Ipoh for a quick meal before continuing our journey. I took the first exit near Ipoh and ended up at Jalan (Road) Tambun. Actually I wanted to go to Bercham and should have driven further up north to the Bercham exit. Anyway, it was dark and I was not very familiar with the road around here. I missed the left turn to Jalan Perajurit, so I just stop by the next restaurant that I come across near Giant Hypermarket Tambun. Chan Heng is just a simple Kopitiam (coffee shop) type of restaurant and we sat down to order our meal. We requested for Ham Choy Thong(Salted Vegetable Soup), Orange Chicken, Homemade tofu with minced meat and Stir fried Cauliflower with Broccoli. The total bill plus drinks for 5 adults and one toddler came up to be RM49 (USD14). Here are the photos and review of the dishes we had.
I love the savoury and sour Ham Choy Thong. The serving is quite generous as well. The main ingredients are fish cake, parsley, fish ball, tomato, preserved plums and salted vegetable. A good way to get the stomach ‘engine’ started after a long journey from KL, so that I can eat more! LOL!
We decided to try Orange Chicken instead of the usual Lemon Chicken. The Orange Chicken is surprisingly tasty. My kids love it very much. The citrus orange aroma sure blend well with the crispy fried chicken and the sauce has a well balanced taste of sweetness with a little sourness of the orange juice.
These are homemade tofu. The texture is smooth and soft and I love the sauce that accompanied the tofu.
My kids love cauliflower and broccoli, so we ordered this dish for them. The crunchy vegetables are well fried with prawns and fresh too!

Kon Ming Restaurant (Sun Kon Meng) at Bercham Selatan, Ipoh – Nice and Cheap Set Lunch!

I stopped by this wonderful restaurant on my way back to Butterworth recently. The food in Kon Ming is very reasonably priced, nice and the staff is very friendly. Although it was my first visit, I feel at home here. They have pretty cheap set lunch menu (available from 11am to 3pm) which cost only RM38 (USD 11) for 6 to 8 pax, consisting of Baba Style Fish Slices, Lemon Chicken Chop, Seng Kua Taufu, Fu Yong Fried Eggs, and Vegetable of the day, Rice and Chinese tea inclusive.

The servings of the dishes are very generous as well. I love the flavorful Baba Style Fish Slices gravy which is sour and spicy. The fish is fresh and succulent. The crunchy okra (ladies finger) which soaked up all the tasty gravy goes down well with steamed rice. The Lemon Chicken Chop has crispy skin and the nice lemon gravy brings out the flavour of the dish. My kids love this dish. I love the soft and smooth texture of the Seng Kua Tofu. Since the use young Seng Kua (gourd), it is tender and nice. The thick starchy gravy complements this dish. The vegetable of the day was Water Convulvulus (kangkong). It was plain fried with a little tinge of wok hei (high heat wok) aroma. As usual the simple Fu Yong fried egg is everyone’s favourite. A good and cheap meal for 8 adults, one child and one toddler!

Restoran Makanan Laut Ipoh Garden, Roast Chicken, Duck, Pork and Liver Combination, Char Siew

I was in Ipoh recently with my family and we had lunch at Ipoh Garden. We decided to go for something simple and quick. Ipoh Garden Seafood Restaurant is located on the main road of Jln Lau Pak Khuan, next to Shell petrol station. The dish that we ordered were roast chicken, roast duck, roast pork, char siew, roast meat with liver combination and a big bowl of radish soup. Roast chicken and roast duck tasted quite normal but the roast meat with liver combination is quite special. I don’t take liver but after trying it out, I found this dish is quite tasty. The roast pork is good and the skin is crispy. My kids love the char siew and they ate their rice with the gravy provided. The radish soup with dry cuttle fish is full of natural sweetness and the portion is big, enough for 2 helpings for each person. All in plus rice (very big portion) for 7 persons, the total bill came up to be RM35. This is including the soup which cost only RM5. Very reasonable place to have a family meal!
