Here's the Styrofoam!

I am keeping my sanity by staying busy!   Working intuitively - with only a vague idea of what these girls will grow up to be.

Styrofoam cone cut in half covered with tape and paper clay; created head, face, and hands out of paper clay; dowels for arms (I had to cut them down twice otherwise she looked like an ape with really loooong arms!)  At book club a couple of weeks ago, the hostess offered cupcakes.  I took one home and gobbled it down!    The brown “ruffle” is the cupcake paper I cut to size. Waste not - want not. I’m unsure if I will use it, but I think it could look good - to be determined.

vintage shoe stretcher - created head, face and flowers with paper clay.  There is a lot more that I want to do her - still thinking about it…

Both of these pieces will (hopefully) hang on a wall - I love a challenge!

Nature Maid - Rebirth

“Nature Maid - Rebirth” art doll created using Hurricane Ian debris and some found objects.

Acorn caps make neat little breasts and a hat!  Apoxy Sculpt stamped with REBIRTH - adhered to the forearms.

Piece together found twigs - tape and paper clay are used to keep twigs together

Paper Clay "skirt" - Apoxy Sculpt to create head, face, neck, hands, and forearms

Stain added to accentuate the features

Wrapped yarn around figure - adhered with Liquitex Matte Medium

This little kiwi has wings!

Inspired by a wooden kiwi bird in a Crate and Barrel ad.  I kept an eye out for appropriate sized twigs to serve as legs.  I was determined to make my own kiwi.

Evidently their wings are quite tiny hidden by hair rather than feathers.  It is a small flightless nocturnal bird and mine has a crown!

Balancing Act

"Balancing Act" is now complete...will seal her tomorrow.  I'm happy with the way she turned out!

bubble...

Work In Progress...I started the painting process, but it's slow going.  I decided to base coat the hands and arms before adding more clay to the shoulders - it never ends!  She looks very solemn don't you think?  She must be trying to keep her balance and not fall off her bubble - serious stuff!!

Please Don't Burst My Bubble...the doll

I continue to be plagued with sciatica.  It's very difficult to sit comfortably for any length of time.  I've been keeping busy to keep my mind off the pain.  I painted this piece a few weeks ago.  I thought I could make a doll using this as my inspiration.  It's a challenge - which I love...

The armature so far...

Standing Tall

More elements added - now the apoxie sculpt needs time to cure to enable her to stand tall.

Soon the painting begins - I can hardly wait!

Art Takes Shape...

It's a process "dressing" this art piece...I decided to add sleeves and a belt.  Shaping the pieces was a bit of a challenge.  I made a few trial runs with paper just to get an idea of proportion of the sleeves. The left over clay created the belt.  I need to think more about hair, shorts and such...

Just Hanging Around...

Yellow Bird and Friend

I'm just crazy about my little yellow bird.  She keeps appearing in most of my artwork these days.  (Creating the little book was a bit of a challenge - don't ask how many times I started anew!)
