Twice as Nice...

This is my favorite photograph of my twin brother, Barney, and me.   When we were kids, money being tight, my mother made coats for each of us by cutting up my dad's old coat.  Don't you just love our hats!

I decided to make a journal page incorporating the image.

assorted ticket stubs, book pages, postage stamps, washi tape; acrylic paint, stenciling

hand carved circle stamp, script using dip pen

twins cut out of photograph; print on paper bag; heart drawn with 9XXB pencil

a final splatter of white paint and journal page now complete

Mixed Media Layers - Part 2

Picking  up where I left off yesterday - adding more layers to the journal spread.

rubber stamps and black acrylic paint

finger paint around stamping (white, blue, red acrylic paint)

doodle around stamping with markers and gel pens

finish with more stamping and script

Toning down the busy background makes for a more cohesive piece IMO.  If all the previous layers hadn't been there the finished spread would not have so much depth.

Mixed Media Layers

I haven't worked on a journal page in ages - today is the day!

Using cheap acrylic craft paint - brush, dab, smear on

Heavy acrylic paint applied with fingers

 Mark making with 9XXB pencil

 Stenciling and rubber stamping

Image transfer using liquid matte medium - I find it helps to apply matte medium to the journal page as well as image - let dry completely - sprinkle with water and rub gently - once all paper is removed, apply more matte medium to image

This is as far as I got before running out of steam.  I plan to get back to this tomorrow.  It's going to be fun to see what happens next.

Art on VIew...

There is a wonderful exhibit "The Florida Artists Group Annual Exhibition" being held at The Center for the Arts of Bonita Springs.  Last week, I stopped in for a look see.

The art in this exhibit is probably one of the most impressive that I have seen at the this art center.  I was particularly enamored with these sculptural pieces.

Beach Cappuccino

I didn't have any coffee on my beach walk this morning.  I enjoyed some "beach cappuccino" instead!
