"…Peter Jackson once shared this anecdote about working with Lee on Lord of the Rings, further proving Lee's reputation as one of the most hardcore individuals in cinema. From the behind the scenes feature on the DVD:
"When I was shooting the stabbing shot with Christopher, as a director would, I was explaining to him what he should do… He says, ‘Peter, have you ever heard the sound a man makes when he’s stabbed in the back?’ And I said, ‘Um, no.’ And he says ‘Well, I have, and I know what to do.'"

Wanderers is a vision of humanity's expansion into the Solar System, based on scientific ideas and concepts of what our future in space might look like, if it ever happens. The locations depicted in the film are digital recreations of actual places in the Solar System, built from real photos and map data where available.
Without any apparent story, other than what you may fill in by yourself, the idea of the film is primarily to show a glimpse of the fantastic and beautiful nature that surrounds us on our neighboring worlds - and above all, how it might appear to us if we were there.

Julian Assange discovers Google's given MONEY to EFF: Sterling journalism there, mate
"…But a better indicator of Google's influence is not when money changes hand, but when it doesn't. Take for example, the implications of the CJEU’s Gonzalez ruling, which upheld that Google wasn’t exempt from European data protection law, and which confirmed that individuals have the right to ask for links to old and irrelevant information to be removed from Google.
It’s popular with individuals who have done nothing criminal, and who can’t afford the lawyers needed to take out a superinjunction, like Andrew Marr. Google structured itself to avoid having to comply with European privacy law, so it could argue that it wasn’t actually doing any data processing in Europe. But this argument was rejected in the Gonzalez ruling.
In July, The Media Society, supported by ITN, held a discussion of the ruling. The event was called "Rewriting History" – no bias there – and featured a representative from Google, along with a barrister, an academic and ITN executive who were all hostile to the decision, on numerous occasions citing misleading evidence. The other panellist was the UK Information Commissioner, who is legally obliged to be even handed between the data processor (Google) and the individual. So four and a half panellists represented Google, the data processing giant, and half a panellist represented the individual – some of the time…"

The First Successful Demonstration Of Brain-To-Brain Communication In Humans
"…By using advanced precision neuro-technologies including wireless EEG and robotized TMS, we were able to directly and noninvasively transmit a thought from one person to another, without them having to speak or write," explained coauthor Alvaro Pascual-Leone, MD, PhD, Director of the Berenson-Allen Center for Noninvasive Brain Stimulation at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School. "This in itself is a remarkable step in human communication, but being able to do so across a distance of thousands of miles is a critically important proof-of-principle for the development of brain-to-brain communications. We believe these experiments represent an important first step in exploring the feasibility of complementing or bypassing traditional language-based or motor-based communication…"

El embarazo, una batalla
"…As the pregnancy continues, the foetus escalates its hormone production, sending signals designed to increase the mother’s blood sugar and blood pressure and thus its own resource supply. In particular, the foetus increases its production of a hormone that prompts the mother’s brain to release cortisol, the primary stress hormone. Cortisol suppresses her immune system, stopping it from attacking the foetus. More importantly, it increases her blood pressure, so that more blood pumps past the placenta and consequently more nutrients are available to the foetus.
The mother doesn’t take this foetal manipulation lying down. In fact, she pre-emptively reduces her blood sugar levels. She also releases a protein that binds to the foetal hormone, rendering it ineffective. So then the foetus further increases its production. By eight months, the foetus spends an estimated 25 per cent of its daily protein intake on manufacturing these hormonal messages to its mother. And how does the mother reply? She increases her own hormonal production, countering the embryo’s hormones with her own that decrease her blood pressure and sugar. Through all this manipulation and mutual reprisal, most of the time the foetus ultimately gets about the right amount of blood, and about the right amount of sugar, allowing it to grow fat and healthy in time for birth. This is the living instantiation of Haig’s tug-of-war between maternal and paternal genomes. As long as each side holds its end up, nobody gets hurt…"

Pixar's Ed Catmull central figure in the wage-fixing scandal
[Pixar's] Catmull's deposition and emails from the lawsuit confirm that he was instrumental in operating a secret wage-theft cartel that violated the Sherman Antitrust Act. But it's even worse than you think. The cartel orchestrated in large part by Catmull robbed potential wages and job opportunities from thousands of animation industry workers at other studios, including DreamWorks, Lucasfilm, Robert Zemeckis’ ImageMovers, the now-defunct Orphanage, and Walt Disney Animation Studios.

"…EA and Disney have a brilliant plan for SWTOR. It will be upgraded to canon in the next expansion and will have some subtle tie-ins with Star Wars 7. (Specifically, a certain planet will be used and lord Vitiate will be an off-screen influence on the main villain of 7). The first step, although it won’t be obvious how, to SWTOR’s ending has begun in Forged Alliances.
The storyline for SWTOR is going to end in about 3.5 years, and the sequel is already in development. These next 3 years are going to see an increase in funding as the game is brought back in line with initial expectations. There is a fun plan to let SWTOR run for as long as players want it to, with dynamic and scaling end-game content, but focus will shift to SWTOR 2. It will run on the Cryengine 3 Frostbite 3 (sorry I was excited and they look similar to me), so your first preview of how the game might look/run will be Dragon Age 3 later this year.
The personal stories of SWTOR will continue in the next major Xpac, and they will each have an “ending”. YOUR character from SWTOR will appear in the as-yet-unnamed SWTOR 2 in various forms. Force Ghosts, holocrons, etc. As of right now, only one class appears to be able to survive until SWTOR 2 (Sith Inquisitor), but that might change. These will use your appearance settings and dialogue based on the actions you chose in the game. I will detail what I could gather about the plot later on in this post…"

“Axanar” takes place 21 years before the events of “Where no Man Has Gone Before”, the first Kirk episode of the original Star Trek. Axanar is the story of Garth of Izar, the legendary Starfleet captain who is Captain Kirk’s hero. Kirk himself called Garth the model for all future Starfleet Officer’s. Garth charted more planets than any other Captain and was the hero of the Battle of Axanar, the story of which is required reading at the academy. This is that story.
“Axanar” tells the story of Garth and his crew during the Four Years War, the war with the Klingon Empire that almost tore the Federation apart. Garth’s victory at Axanar solidified the Federation and allowed it to become the entity we know in Kirk’s time.
It is the year 2245, four years into the war with the Klingons.

The world of ancient Egypt — a time of magic, Pharaohs, gods and thieves — lives again in HIEROGLYPH, an exciting action-adventure series from creator/executive producer Travis Beacham ("Pacific Rim," "Clash of the Titans"). When a dangerous scroll, The Book of Thresholds, is stolen from Egypt's most secure vault, master thief AMBROSE (Max Brown, "Beauty and the Beast," "MI-5") is plucked from prison to track down the perpetrator. Having spent the past five years in the darkest of pits, Ambrose quickly learns that his prison cell might be safer than the dangerous new world in which he finds himself: Atum, the empire's capital. Ambrose must answer to Pharaoh SHAI KANAKHT (Reece Ritchie, "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time"), a god in the flesh, a young ruler with a cool charm and a violent, frightening temper. The question for Ambrose is not whether he can trust his new boss, but whether he can trust anyone. Also stalking the halls of the palace is NEFERTARI KANAKHT (Condola Rashad, "Smash," "Steel Magnolias"), half-sister to the Pharaoh, whose relationship with Shai's closest advisor, MAGISTER BEK (guest star Hal Ozsan, "90210"), masks her own designs for power. Finding few leads in the palace, Ambrose's investigation takes him to the doorstep of his long-lost love, PESHET (Caroline Ford, "Lake Placid: The Final Chapter"), a magic-wielding adoratrice, a type of homespun priestess who uses her femininity as a portal to the gods...for the right price. Peshet was the keystone in Ambrose's merry band of thieves, an impressionable youth with great knowledge of magic, a woman who never saw a lock for which she didn't have an unlocking charm. Five years later, Peshet has left her old life behind in a pious pursuit of divine contact. Ambrose's journey also leads him to old friends, such as VOCIFER (John Rhys-Davies, "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings," "Raiders of the Lost Ark"), a peddler of mystical wares and Ambrose's mentor. But he also comes face-to-face with foes both old and new, from RAWSER (Antony Bunsee, "EastEnders," "Sex and the City 2"), the Pharaoh's captain of the guard, who imprisoned him five years ago; to LOTUS TENRY (Kelsey Chow, "One Tree Hill"), a palace concubine and spy for a rival kingdom. As Ambrose unravels the mystery of The Book of Thresholds, he begins to see the extent to which sorcery has seeped into the halls of power in ancient Egypt, and how close it is to causing this great civilization's downfall. HIEROGLYPH is produced by Chernin Entertainment in association with 20th Century Fox Television. The series is created and written by Travis Beacham. The series is executive-produced by Beacham, Peter Chernin (NEW GIRL, "Touch"), Katherine Pope (NEW GIRL, "Touch") and Anna Fricke ("Being Human," "Men in Trees"). Miguel Sapochnik ("Mind Games," "Repo Men") also serves as an executive producer and directed the pilot.

It's troubling to fellow patient Lyda Rose, because she's one of the ones who designed Numinous. Take the drug, and for a short while, you absolutely believe in God. Overdose, and you believe forever. In Lyda's case, she's got Dr. Gloria following her around, her own guardian angel. There's no faith required, just a bit of biochemistry. What's worrisome to Lyda is that she and her fellow designers swore that they'd never build the drug again. Now, it's back on the streets…"

Vampiros lánguidos contribuyendo a las artes
"…A big part of the fantasy in Only Lovers Left Alive is that Adam and Eve are sort of subculture superheroes, with impeccable subterranean taste, drawn to brilliant indie creations the way more typical vampires are drawn to blood.
But of course they feed on human blood too. And when various setbacks — including Eve's snotty sister — interfere with their supply of clean, hospital-grade O negative, Adam and Eve have to figure out what they'll do next. This conundrum is perhaps the only thing that could pass for "action" in this film, which is ultimately a sweet, funny character study of a love affair between two people who share a passion for creative weirdness. It's incredibly refreshing to watch a relationship drama where the relationship itself isn't the source of drama. The bond between Adam and Eve is never questioned, and we know they can depend on each other as they cope with whatever madness the world hurls at them…"

Pandemonium Explains Why Computers Will Share Human Biases
"…We can recognize the letter "m" even when it's written in many different fonts. We recognize it because, according to the pandemonium theory, one little demon in in charge on small curves that peak in the middle, and shouts that it sees them. Another is in charge of vertical lines and shouts that it sees them as well. Those two shouters pass their messages, simultaneously, up the chain of command until a demon in charge of recognizing the letter "m" accepts them and starts shouting itself. But, because the letter "n" also consists of curves and lines, and also joins in the chorus. Eventually, the whole process comes to a decision demon. It picks, "n" or "m" and that is what registers in our conscious mind. This process of recognizing tiny bits of information, and putting them together for the best fit, can work for anything from basic curves to human faces…"

Roleando en Star Wars: The Old Republic

M-theory / String Theory is the Only Game in Town
"…But, to be fair to those who insist that Einstein must be now made to bow to Bohr, the most strident of those enthusiasts have offered a fair challenge. Quantum exceptionalists claim, despite an unparalleled history of non-success, that string theory (now rebranded as M-theory for matrix, magic or membrane) remains literally 'the only game in town' because fundamental physics has gotten so hard that no one can think of a credible alternate unification program. If we are to dispel this as a canard, we must make a good faith effort to answer the challenge by providing interesting alternatives, lest we be left with nothing at all.
My reason for believing that there is a better route to the truth is that we have, out of what seems to be misplaced love for our beloved Einstein, been too reverential to the exact form of general relativity. For example, if before retrofitting we look closely at the curvature and geometry of the legs, we can see something striking, in that they are subtly incompatible at a classical geometric level before any notion of a quantum is introduced. Einstein's leg seems the sparest and sturdiest as it clearly shows the attention to function found in the school of 'intrinsic geometry' founded by the German Bernhard Riemann. The Maxwell and Dirac legs are somewhat more festive and ornamented as they explore the freedom of form which is the raison d'etre for a more whimsical school of 'auxiliary geometry' pioneered by Alsatian Charles Ehresmann. This leads one naturally to a very different question: what if the quantum incompatibility of the existing theories is really a red herring with respect to unification and the real sticking point is a geometric conflict between the mathematicians Ehresmann and Riemann rather than an incompatibility between the physicists Einstein and Bohr? Even worse, it could be that none of the foundations are ready to be quantized. What if all three theories are subtly incomplete at a geometric level and that the quantum will follow once, and only once, all three are retired and replaced with a unified geometry?…"

RahXephon isn't bad, but it had no chance in hell of coming close to matching Evangelion in sales. Now repeat that with pretty much every single anime series released after 2005 or so. The Japanese, wanting to match their initial revenues, overcharged for pretty much everything, and the U.S. companies, both out of wishful thinking and because Japan had a complete monopoly on the source (where else was the U.S. going to buy anime?) paid them. And the U.S. companies lost and lost and lost money until basically two U.S. anime companies survived — Funimation and Viz…"

Generation 1: Early random access. Here, there are multiple named files on one device with no folders or other metadata. Think Apple ][ DOS (but not ProDOS!) as one example.
Generation 2: Early organization (aka folders). When devices became capable of holding hundreds of files, better organization became necessary. We're referring to TRS-DOS, Apple //c ProDOS, MS-DOS FAT/FAT32, etc.
Generation 3: Metadata—ownership, permissions, etc. As the user count on machines grew higher, the ability to restrict and control access became necessary. This includes AT&T UNIX, Netware, early NTFS, etc.
Generation 4: Journaling! This is the killer feature defining all current, modern filesystems—ext4, modern NTFS, UFS2, you name it. Journaling keeps the filesystem from becoming inconsistent in the event of a crash, making it much less likely that you'll lose data, or even an entire disk, when the power goes off or the kernel crashes…"

"…It was all part of an elaborate event from Gibson, during which Lloyd “traveled back” to 1894 to see Gibson's very first guitars (some now worth millions of dollars). Because at CES, everything is a marketing gimmick. But unlike bringing Michael Bay up to talk about your curved TVs or asking Shaq to hawk your HDMI cables, bringing out the Back to the Future gang is awesome…"

Y no tienes armas
