Los CCDs de las cámaras, al igual que los procesadores, suben en densidad y caen en precio a un ritmo fenomenal. Lo peculiar es que no estén siendo aplicados masivamente fuera del tema fotografía-vídeo.
Por ejemplo: pon uno en el flexo de la mesa del despacho y ya tienes un escáner. O pon unos cuantos por la casa y tienes un sistema de seguridad, un apaga-luces para cuando sales del cuarto, etc.

Ya que estamos, la película de "Hundir la flota" (TAMPOCO es una broma) irá de buques de guerra contra extraterrestres.
(Y lo triste es que se me está ocurriendo una buena idea para "Tetris, the Movie", al menos como cortometraje de CF, y lo digo en serio)

Ya que estamos, la película de "Hundir la flota" (TAMPOCO es una broma) irá de buques de guerra contra extraterrestres.
(Y lo triste es que se me está ocurriendo una buena idea para "Tetris, the Movie", al menos como cortometraje de CF, y lo digo en serio)
AMD Fusion frente a Larrabee
AMD y Fusion: en vez de hacer una granjita de x86itos en un chip (con unos pocos componentes típicos de GPU para solucionar lo que hoy no es solucionable por mucha fuerza bruta de CPU que tenga), lo que quieren es que sus CPUs contengan, directamente dentro, las unidades típicas de una GPU sin tener que intentar emularlas. En una primera fase están poniendo un núcleo de x86 y de GPU en una misma pastilla, pero el objetivo es que todo esté en un mismo núcleo sin solución de continuidad, las unidades tipo GPU siendo ciudadanos de pleno derecho en la CPU. Supongo que eso significará fusionar los juegos de instrucciones.
Una de las razones esgrimidas era que no ven interesante el perder transistores tontamente en el "traductor" x86 a RISC que tiene cada núcleo x86 (si tienes veintitantos de esos, no es moco de pavo) y, obviamente, que prefieren no tirar a la basura su experiencia y tecnología en componentes de GPU y apostar por soluciones heterogéneas.
Siendo puristas, el ideal sería una dirección tipo Larrabee homogénea en la que no hiciera falta ningún elemento específico de GPU, sino que todo fuera resuelto por elementos genéricos, pero del dicho al hecho… Igual acaba pasando que un apaño como Fusion llega antes al mercado y con más rendimiento práctico, y reina durante un tiempo.

Este es el curioso instrumento creado por Craig Huxley que Goldsmith empleó en la Banda Sonora de Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Cada vez que V'ger andaba de por medio, el Blaster añadía un elemento ominoso a la música.
El instrumento ha aparecido en muchísimas más bandas sonoras de las que uno se espera. Por ejemplo, en "2010: Odisea 2", donde de alguna forma personificaba a Júpiter y su imponente presencia.
Curiosidad: escuchado en vivo, sus graves eran capaces de inducir orgasmos femeninos (las frecuencias clave son 33 y 35Hz :)

For the love of all that's good and holy--look. As an archaeologist, I'm getting tired of explaining this. Ok, it's like this: the calendar doesn't "run out." It's like the odometer on your car rolling over to 100,000, or the calendar rolling over from 1999 to 2000. It's not a date full of mystical prophesies or anything. The 13th baktun (a time period of about 394 years) ends and the 14th baktun begins. Last time a baktun rolled over in the early 1600s, the world didn't end.
I mean, how many centuries does our calendar have? When does it "run out"? Well, it doesn't. Neither does theirs.

GSB is the new game from UK indie developer 'Positech Games'. It's a strategy / management / simulation game that does away with all the base building and delays and gets straight to the meat and potatoes of science-fiction games: The big space battles fought by huge spaceships with tons of laser beams and things going 'zap!', 'ka-boom!' and 'ka-pow!'. In GSB you put your ships together from modular components, arrange them into fleets, give your ships orders of engagement and then hope they emerge victorious from battle (or at least blow to bits in aesthetically pleasing ways).
