Seasons...Art Journal - The Crafter's Workshop

Monday, April 2, 2018

Today, I am sharing an Art Journal spread for The Crafter's Workshop that I created with Spring and the changing of Seasons in mind!  I had a quote that inspired me, but was mostly inspired by the changes in my own backyard.

I used a variety of stencils and metallic pastes from the newest release, as well as some of the Heavy Body Acrylic paints to create this double page spread.  Below, are the stencils and mediums I utilized.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project.  The opinions I share are solely my own.

I knew I wanted to use this quote in my page and so after sifting through the stencils I decided to divide my spread into 3 sections.  One predominately yellow, one green and the final one more orange.

Using Distress Ink, I stenciled those colors & a couple botanical patterns onto some Mixed Media Adhesive Sheets from ThermOWeb & Rebekah Meier.

I also inked these 'sun' designs, creating darker colors towards the center with these stencil brushes.

I added some of of this rich Grecian Gold Modeling Paste onto one of the stencil...it is a lovely deep, warm gold that blends perfectly with the oranges and pale reds I chose.

While the ink and modelling paste dried, I used some gelatos and Neocolor crayons to create a contrasting base color to the Mixed Media papers I stenciled.  Before starting the project, I used the White Gesso on my pages as well as taping the binding to prevent leaking.

P
I used plenty of water to make it fairly muted.  I wanted main colors to be the yellow, green and orange to correspond with my quote.

I mixed similar shades of the Heavy Body Acrylic paints and spread them across this 12x12 lined, graphic floral, directly centered about the journal binding.

My plan was to layer the previously stenciled Mixed Media paper on top of the large floral.  The mixed media sheets are somewhat transparent and I hope to create linear column of colors.

I adhered the sunshine stenciled pieces to opposite sides of the page, symbolizing the beginning of the day, with the sun high in the sky and the end of the day with the sun low in the horizon.

I wanted to add some of the metallic pastes, but didn't want to overpower the color theme with the golds.  Using the new Platinum Modeling Paste was perfect.  It is neutral enough in color, but still has a lovely shimmer.

In an attempt to make the color theme more prominent by providing more contrasting colors, I added some of the Neocolor crayons and watercolors to the background and stenciled patterns.

Next, I used various black pens and markers to outline the stencils.

Feeling the need to provide more contrast, especially at the edges, I added some of black ink using two different dot stencils.

Finally, not wanting to distract from the spread itself, I added my quote to the very bottom of the page...
"Some friends come into your life for a reason, others come only for a season."

bloom - The Crafter's Workshop - February 2018

Monday, March 5, 2018

Hi there!  Today I am going to share a traditional scrapbook layout using 4 of the new stencils and 2 of the new metallic modeling pastes from The Crafter's Workshop.
Below are the stencils and pastes I used in my layout.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project.  The opinions I share are solely my own.
I started out by misting a couple different colors of green onto white cardstock using two of the 6×6 leaf/botanical stencils.

Having decided to use a recent photo of new blooming daffodils, I chose this 12×12 stencil for the background.  I have wanted to get some of these large stencil brushes for a while and finally bought some for Christmas for myself!  I selected Distress Inks in gradating tones from yellow to orange to pink.
Starting from the top left corner working to the bottom right, I stenciled this Floral pattern onto another piece of white cardstock.
While the ink dried on my background, I fussy cut out the leaves from the 6×6 stencils I misted.
I decided that my photo needed a dark background to provide some contrast.
Since this photo makes me think of the time of year, I thought this number stencil was appropriate.  I thought a black background would provide that contrast along with the new Antique Gold Modeling Paste.
I also stenciled the piece of this 6×6 stencil in the new Champagne Gold Modeling Paste over the “bloom” portion of this stencil for my title.
I created a photo cluster using the black cardstock stenciled with gold as the base and layered the fussy cut leaves underneath my photo.
I matted the entire piece with a piece of 12×12 black & white patterned cardstock.
I added a couple other embellishments, but tried to keep it simple and keep the focus on the background stencil pattern and colors.
Thanks for stopping by the Blog today!  I hope this project gives you a little promise of Spring!

#CUZLUV - Paige Evan's Collection - Pick Me Up!

Tuesday, February 20, 2018

Hi!  I am sharing a layout I created today using the new Pink Paislee collection from Paige Evans, ‘Pick Me Up.’  I won the ENTIRE collection from a GiveAway Paige had on Facebook.  And I mean, ALL the goodies; Thickers, stickers, washi, papers, stamps, rub-ons and on & on.

This is the first project I used with my haul, and the first layout I made just for me, for fun, not for a team project in such a long time.  It was so nice and easy to be inspired with the colors, patterns and embellishments.

I used an Instax photo I printed of my daughter and youngest niece that I printed in black & white.  I started stacking papers and die cuts to create a very colorful cluster to contrast the black & white of the photo.

Using the diagonal pattern from the 6x6 paper as a guide, I added some machine stitching across the background cardstock.  There are also some super cute embellishments, like sequins that have adhesive, making it so easy to add them!

I finished up the layout with a small embellishment cluster at the top right corner.  I also mounted the entire background piece onto a piece of navy patterned paper and added some gold splatters!

Thanks for stopping by the Blog today!  And thanks so much to Paige Evans and Pink Paislee for the amazing gift of gorgeous products that are the perfect Pick Me Up!
Have a great week!

Home Decor Project - The Crafter's Workshop February 2018

Monday, February 12, 2018

Hello friends!  Grab a cup of coffee and get cozy for my project featuring a new stencil and new mediums from The Crafter’s Workshop.
For this home decor project I used this stencil just released a few weeks ago along with 4 of the brand new metallic pastes.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project.  The opinions I share are solely my own.

I bought this wood tray with a steel frame and handles at a local craft store.  I thought the rustic look would be perfect for using one of the newly releases stencils that are perfect for home decor.

In preparation for using the stencil, I trimmed about 1/4” off the top end to fit flat inside the frame of the tray.  I taped it in the center of the tray using masking tape and also masked off the top portion of the coffee cup so I don’t mix the pastes.

I planned to use these 4 metallic pastes in a gradient pattern from this light Champagne Gold to the darker Copper Penny Molding Paste.

Next, I used the color Antique Gold.  I wanted to let the Champagne Gold paste dry a bit before pulling up the masking tape, so I jumped ahead the third section of color I planned.  It is so perfectly named too...it does look like an antiqued finish.

Then I went back to the coffee cup and used the Grecian Gold paste providing the perfect transition between the other shades of gold.

Finishing up the design with the Copper Penny paste at the bottom, I pulled off the masking tape and then the stencil itself.

I love the way the stencil itself looked with the paste all over it too!

Below is the finished product!  I love the way it turned out.  Such a fun way to customize something for a unique gift!

The stencil kept the design nice and crisp and the metallics have the perfect amount of shine.

Thanks for stopping by today to share this fun project!  I hope it inspires you to find a way to personalize your own home decor or something for a friend!
