KI Memories

So last night I gathered up all my KI Memories scrapbooking supplies.  Why would I do that?  Because they are having a design team call!  You can read the details here.  I really love KI Memories...I simply adore their lace cardstock, and they have a lot of fun embellishments too!  Anyways, so I couldn't pass this opportunity up.  I made three new  LO's last night and I plan to make a few more tonight.  I only have to submit two LO's, but I didn't want to just submit the first two that I made, I want to do several so I can pick my two favorites.  Here is what I did last night:

Let me know what you think.

Also, yesterday was the day I found out what the final challenge will be for Scrapbook, etc.'s Ultimate Summer Challenge.  We will be making an "all about me" 8 page mini album.  I am still thrilled to be able to participate in this.  They got the finalists pics and bios up, so stop by and check it out!  :)

Put Away the Puffy Paint Pamela!

I've been doing this thing lately.  I make perfectly fine layouts, then I decide it needs something more, so I pull out my 3D paint and add to the design.  The last two layouts I actually made the title with the 3D paint.  But both times, afterwards, I was like "what was I thinking? I don't like this at all!"  Fortunately, when I have came back in the morning and looked at it again, I had decided that it didn't look as bad as a I thought it did.  But I still think I need to take a break from the 3D paint...it's been on all of my recent layouts (pretty much).  I have promised myself that the next one I do will not have any.  :)  Am I weird, or does this happen to everyone with something?

So many of you know, but the DT over at Coconut ScrapShop (which I am proudly part of) was asked (by BMPS!) to make layouts with several of Black Market Paper Society's lines of paper.  Love them!  I thought I missed out on the opportunity because I was out of town (for Summer CHA) but then they still want my layouts.   They will use them at the next CHA.  So I am thrilled about that...what a cool opportunity.  And I got lots of time to get stuff done too.  :)  They sent tons of goodies and I finally got to play some with the new stuff.   Here is a layout I made last night with the "Imported Rhythm" line:

To see the other layouts I have made with Black Market Paper Society's stuff, just click on their tag on the right side of my blog.  And you can currently buy this line of paper from Jen here.

A Card

Here's a quick card I made.  I used Sketch 78 at CPS.  I decided to play around a bit and see what it looked like if I adhered the sheer ribbon from Maya Road to the card with blobs of ink.  :)  Always got to try new things, right?  This card came together super fast.

Supplies:  Patterned Paper--October Afternoon, Making Memories.  Cardstock--Bazzill.  Sheer Ribbon--Maya Road.  Butterfly--Kaiser.  Stamp--Stampendous.  Paint--Scribbles.

Transparenies and Blog Candy

First of all, don't forget about the Design team call here, or the previous blog candy here.

So most of you know that I just LOVE Hambly products!  What they are known for are their heavy duty printed transparencies (or "screen prints").  These can be intimidating if you have never played with them before, but once you do start to play, you will fall in love with them as I have.  One of the most common questions I hear about transparencies is how to adhere them without the adhesive being seen through.  Usually I layer a lot so I adhere the transparencies under which I have a layer that covers it.  But I also have another idea for you that actually adds to the design.  On this picture, I have used no adhesive.  I simply put the pieces together by making a line of 3D paint the overlaps it all.  Once the paint dries, it all just stays together.  Cool, huh.  :)

Here's the finished LO:

Yes, I know that I just showed you a different layout I made with this picture, but these layouts are for different albums.  :)  Besides, who says you can only use a picture once...not me.

And for today's blog candy...

One lucky winner will get the AWESOME August Kit from The Coconut ScrapShop.  I designed this kit myself, and it even includes some fun transparencies from Hambly.  To see some LO's that I created with the August kit, look here.  In order to be entered into the drawing for this kit, you will need to post on your own blog or another website about this blog give-away, and then leave me a comment on today's post (include a link of where you posted about this).  The winner will be drawn and announced on August 23rd.  Good luck!  :)

Life and some Blog Candy!

Here is a new LO for you all to see.  I actually think it may be one of my favorites...I love the pictures the most.   Supplies are listed at the bottom of this post.  :)

My day was very tough yesterday.  Went to a doctor's appointment, immediately got sent to the hospital for an ultrasound (because of problems with previous ultrasound and because my dr couldn't hear the heartbeat yesterday).  When I got to the ultrasound I was freaked out even more because the gal first asked me "Have you had any bleeding or cramping," I told her somee cramping but no bleeding.  She started the ultrasound, moved it away from me and didn't say a word as she was looking over everything.  Then she looked at me and asked again "So you haven't had any bleeding, right?"  I was freaking out.   Finally I made the gal talk to me, I started asking lots of questions.  She assured me that the baby was fine and that the heart rate was fine...so I left thinking everything was ok.  But then got a call from my doctor telling me I have to take it super easy for the next two weeks because I have a hemorrhage.  I am not bleeding, but apparently I am very at risk to bleed.  It actually was kinda confusing.  My doctor is not too great with the communication and my hubby wants me to get a new one.  I tried to explain to the boys how I couldn't be lifting them and I needed to have a lot of help from them this week.  And they have been so good today.  But I am feeling kinda emotional and scared.  :(  So on to some better news:

I promised some blog candy.  :)  I think I will be giving away something for several days in a row.  So keep coming back!  Here is how it will work:

Check out the day's post and then make a post on your blog or on an MB letting people know about my blog giveaway.  Leave me a comment on today's post to be entered into a drawing for today's RAK (include a link to where you posted about my blog candy).  Then come back tomorrow and do it all again.  Instead of the drawing closing at the end of the day, I will leave each RAK open all week and will close all of them out and announce winners on Saturday, August 23rd.

So leave a comment to today's post for a chance to win a $10 gift certificate to The Coconut ScrapShop!  Who, by the way, I just placed a huge order with because they got lots of new goodies in!  So check them out!

Now Were Rockin' with Photoshop

Woo Hoo!  Finished my first LO from the Now We're Rockin' with Photoshop class by Jessica Sprague.  Here it is:

And my family comes home today!  Yeah!  My hubby and two kids have been in Nebraska again.  This time I stayed behind.  I've been really sick, and I was able to sleep a lot while they were gone.  But I am so happy that they will be coming home today!  :)

Design Team Call

So you may or may not know but I have a group on myspace that I started before I ever even came across other boards or sites online for scrapbooking.  It used to be a really active group.  I've decided to change things up a bit and start to treat it more like a Challenge blog with it's own design team...therefore...I am having a design team call.  :)  Here are the details:

Design Team Call

http://groups.myspace.com/Scrapbookchallenges

Scrapbook Challenges, a group on myspace, is looking for some talented scrapbookers to help out with posting challenges and completing layouts based on sketches.  The term will be September 2008 to December 2008, and we do ask that you commit to that.

Requirements:

·      * *  In order to be a member of a myspace group, you must have a myspace account.  These are free and you can open it when you start your term if you like.  You can have your profile be private, or without much information but you do need a profile to be part of the group.

      * DT members will post at least one challenge a month.

·           *  DT members will be given the sketches a week in advance and asked to complete a LO once a month based on one of the sketches.

·           *  DT members will help answer questions and participate in the board.

What DT members will get:

·          *   The ability to state a design team for your scrapbook resume.

·          *   Your name will be highlighted on the main page and you can promote websites and groups of your choice.

·          *  DT members will receive a “signing bonus” RAK in the mail, as well as occasional RAKS throughout their term.

·          *  Possible sponsor packages of goodies (we are working on getting a few things lined up).

If you are interested:

Please send an email to pamelacy@msn.com with “Design Team” in the subject line.  Please share the following:

·          *  A LO that is your favorite that you did.

·          *   Your myspace profile link (if you have one)

·          *   Links to websites or galleries.

·          *  Why you want to be a part of this new Design Team?

Way Back When

Holy cow!  Remember a long time ago when I was taking that Jessica Sprague class and was posting my first digital pages?  Well that was in May.  I didn't finish the class, I actually had one more assignment to do.  Well...I am proud to say that I have finally finished it!!!  Thank goodness I didn't have a deadline for getting Jessica's information from the class.  So, here it is, my final project from the Up and Running with Photoshop class:

And truth be told, I had signed up for and paid for the next class, "Now We're Rocking with Photoshop" and I never even started it.  So...I plan to get on that one too.  :)  Soon I will post my assignments for that class.

Sketches!

Here is my latest sketch for Scrapbook Challenges:

Thought I would post it here too.

Also don't miss out on my August sketch for The Coconut ScrapShop.  You can even win 2 issues of Scrapbook Trends just by participating in the sketch challenge.  See the sketch and the details here.

Creating my own paper

The other day I had this idea for a layout but I really wanted some brown polka dot paper. You know how it is when sometimes you see something in your head one way and then you will have it no other way...so I created my own.

I started with a sheet of Core'dinations cardstock (I love these, if you haven't ever used any, get some and play! They are in the ScrapLovers store here
).

Then I used my craft knife and just scratched off the surface in little dots. It was pretty easy.

You could try to etch a whole design into one of these sheets of cardstock.

Here is the LO I made:

Other ideas I could have done to make my own polka dot paper:
*  used paint (would have been super easy with 3D paint)
*  doodling
*  embossing (and sanding)
*  used my embroidery floss to thread knots for dots
*  used a hole-puncher's leftover circles
*  used brads or eyelets
*  stamped circles (if I didn't have a small dot I could ink the eraser on a pencil)

What other ideas do you have?  I will add them to the list.  :)

Supplies:
Patterned Paper--Pink Paislee (and on the owl:) Autumn Leaves, Cardstock--Core'dinations (on owl:) Stampin' Up!, Chipboard--Fancy Pants, Calendar--Jenni Bowlin, Glimmer Mist (on chipoard)--Tattered Angels, Paint--Making Memories, Rub-on owl--Glitz, Label stickers--Jenni Bowlin, Letter stickers--Rusty Pickle, Embroidery floss--Prism.

Adding special touches with stitching. :)

This is the LO that I posted yesterday.  I wanted to challenge you all to try adding a stitching design to you LO...I promise that you will like how it looks!  It can be intimidating if you have never tried it but I still really encourage you to give it a try.

Here is what I do:
I bought a box of transparencies (cheap) a long time ago, so I get those out and use a transparency for my design.  I will use a sharpie and draw a design on the transparency.  You could also print your design on a transparency (print on the rough side).  Here is my used transparency:

Some people draw right on the paper since they will be stitching over it.  That is fine too, I have just found that I have better control over the final image when I use a transparency.  Then if I mess up on the drawing (like on my cloud) it's not a big deal, plus then I can move my drawing around on my layout to determine where I think the best placement for my image is.

After I determine where to position it i poke through the transparency AND my paper with a paper piercer to create my holes for the embroidery floss.  Then I go ahead and stitch my design.  I almost always use a backstitch to do this.
The diagram may be hard to follow.  But I go up one hole (from the back) and then go to the previous hole (thus the "backstitch") and go down.  Then skip a hole and do the same thing.  If you don't get what I am saying, just play around, you will get it.

Anyways, here are some close ups of my designs on my LO:

If you try this, post a comment and share it with us...I will even upload it as a sample on my blog.  :)

Here is what Harley Dee did:

Cosmo Cricket Reveals

blog readability test

This is too funny! I saw this on a friends blog and had to see what it said about my own blog. :) But please don't stop reading the blog because you think you are not at a genius reading level...this is just silly. :)

Anyways, I have some reveals for you today from ScrapLovers. I got to work with the new "Mr. Campy" line from Cosmo Cricket. Fun stuff. Here's what I did:

You can find the "Mr. Campy" line in the store at ScrapLovers here.
