So I had a dream several nights ago that I haven't been able to get out of my head. Debating trying to do something with it since the story was pretty much written entirely in my sleep. Heavy emphasis on trying.

At any rate, started musing around designs for it, this being the main character. One thing I realized is that boy is it hard to draw sci-fi armor without being heavily redundant and repetitive. There's so many great sources to pull from but trying to not basically regurgitate absolutely everything is kind of brain numbing. Anyhoo, yet another nameless character design though if I dive further into it then hopefully this won't be the last you see of her.

In another news, I've been putting together an official portfolio site. Though I like the one I have on here, I felt like getting one that looked like it was more "me" was a bit important for selling myself. Check it out! Mass Effect 3: Jack

So ever since I got an XBox I have been absolutely and totally whole heartedly obsessed with the Mass Effect Series. It's essentially everything I could have asked to have in a game. I mean really, everything. I'm on the third one in the series and was oh so happy when I got to run into one of my favorite characters from the previous game. She's awesome. She also kicks much ass with little reason to apologize.

Design musings

It's been a long a time since I've posted, eh? I guess you can say I was taking a break from drawing for a while.

Anyhoo, a character that's been floating in my head for a bit of time now for a story that I plan on doing nothing for. Thinking, though, that I could use designs for this to explore my journey into ZBRUSH (WhhOooOOoOOOOAAAaaaaaa). No name for her yet, only a vague set up for her world and the story itself. Hope to play more with the design aspect of this later.

Sometimes I run out of ideas. So I surf clothing websites and I find things I'd love to own but could never pull off. ... In times like these, I put one of my O.C's in an ensemble with it.

My first art show

Hello world! Long time no update (surprise, surprise!). Needless to say, I've been really busy (all a good kind of busy), and after taking a very long art break, here's a bit of an update for you.

I was lucky enough to be selected to take part in Tarot, Mystics and Occult Exhibition Art Show and Project hosted by Light Grey Art Lab. I was very very very excited over this just because I had actually always wanted to design my own tarot deck, so it was neat to be able to be apart of this.

At any rate, here's my contribution for the King of Cups:

I used a ton of symbolic imagery and basically avoided all together trying to use typical King of Cups imagery that you see in cards.

The deck is available for pre-order and is filled with beautiful art from so many insanely and wonderfully talented artists. I already put my order in for one and I can't wait to get it! For more information:

Life Drawing

I found a really neat online life drawing tool that's really forced me to look at my artwork and officially see where I need to improve. Oddly enough, aside from the basics like proportions and foot placement, it seems like my biggest issue is doing posing that isn't insanely dynamic. Admittedly, seeing all of this makes me cringe a lot since I know where I was the last time I took life drawing classes but it's certainly nothing that I can't improve upon with a good deal of practice again.

Dylan! First of many for my Narcoleptic Insomnia role calls. Started off with him because I have a particular fondness for him.

Okay, I definitely got lazy at the end (The Harlot Sisters were the last ones I drew). But I had to get around to finalizing the style/designs for everyone so I can actually start drawing the whole comic book. But here they are, from tallest to shortest

Dwayne, Wayde, Devon, Dylan, Mary(Lynn), Malinda, Marjorie, Melissa, Vienna and Niamh.

WOOF.

Eventually these will be cleaned up/colored in their respective palettes. Thinking overall just flat coloring to keep myself sane.

A nice little speed paint of Niamh. I might color it later. Another character that I'm growing very fond of the more I work on the story. Her promo art is next up to plate and I'm excited to get that one done. Promise it will be PG friendly and all that jazz. I think I got all the freaky deakie stuff out with Vienna's. Not sure if I'll color this up, though. Kind of fond with of the way it turned out. We'll see!

Webcomic News

I've been working on a series of character promo artwork and Vienna's is the first up to bat.

 This whole process of doing this has been positively delicious for me. It's been like brain candy re-vamping this entire story line and making it something that's cohesive and (relatively) easy to follow. I'm going to be storyboarding the entire series starting this week and have decided to give myself the goal date of October 31st to start publishing the first book.

This will be fun! And interesting! And hopefully very...very... not cruddy.

Vienna is the Madame of Avec Plaisir, an ever popular brothel bar in the other universe. She's an ex-thief who turned her cap in for a more... respectable? trade. Or at least a more profitable one. She's the most requested of all the whores in her house but only takes on very, very special clients. I guess you can say they must certainly have a very specific taste? 


At any rate, I'm kind of in love with her, primarily because she actually serves a larger purpose in the story and, you know, makes sense now.

More to come when I'm not about to pass out!

This may get cleaned up and colored in the style that I've intended for the webcomic.

ANYWAY. A quick little doodle of Dylan and (Mari)Lynn. They're totally awesome secondary characters to Narcoleptic Insomnia. So much so that I'm considering making a mini strip series of the two of them to break up the seriousness when I publish the comic online.

Dylan and Wayde go pretty far back. I also feel bad because Dylan totally looks like a generic version of every male character I draw before I finalize their design. So yeah. You'll be seeing way more of him. I'm also excited to start introducing his alternate universe self because he's. I dunno. a cool cat and all that jazz.

Marilynn (though she goes by Lynn) is Niamh's new best friend. They used to be competitors in their career but eventually realized they can make more money if they just stopped being catty and just started going out for drinks instead! Hopefully she looks exactly like them but her alternate universe selves are (is?) the Harlot Sisters. She's also kind of crazy in a burned out hippy kind of way.

I have to sit down one of these days and do full designs of both hers and Tamara's tattoo art cause... I dunno. Tattoos are cool and I always doodle my way out of really drawing them.

Niamh's little make over

I've been taking a break from my graphic novel because I hit a major creative block in it (though I'm like... half way through writing the first book, yeah!). So instead of just stopping the creative juices all together, I started turning my attention back to Narcoleptic Insomnia and scripting that out fully. I'm excited for getting that up and running again. I've been working at it all day today and am kind of sort of half way through the first installment - They're all insanely short and I intend the story to be rather on the more fast paced side as opposed to the slowly labored pace that the graphic novel has, if only because Narcoleptic Insomnia is more of a 'creative experiment' for me, now.

At any rate, here's Niamh's redesign. I like doing this whole... redesign thing right now if only because these characters are starting to look exactly as they should (in my head at least). Albeit, she's got a bit of an attitude in this which she doesn't normally have but I guess she's just in that kind of mood today?

So one of my friends gave me the challenge of drawing Nadia in a Wedding Dress. Truth be told I was totally against it at first because she ... just. doesn't do dresses. But I found this to be a nice little break from everything SRS that I've been working on and, truth be told, pretty happy with it. I've worked hard to pretty much disregard herself as a sexual being because that's just... not what she's about. But in the back of my mind, she does end up living a happy, peaceful long life secluded some place far away from the majority of humanity with Cerene. I imagine that would make her smile if her face isn't too incapable of moving in that direction.

I'm Alive!

I feel absolutely terrible over the lack of updates over the past few months. I've literally decided on a whim to re-arrange my life and make things a lot more stable to allot for more time to draw and work on everything. I'll be back soon with updates, I promise! Life simply got in the way in the sloppy fashion that it usually does!
