"Everywhere God" Review and Fire Tablet Giveaway

Today I am reviewing "The Everywhere God" by Bob Nelson.  This sweet book written in rhyming prose assures children that God is always there for them no matter what is going on in their life.  The author wrote this for his grandchild who was going through a very difficult time in her life with circumstances that were beyond her control or understanding.

The colors are bright and cheerful and are very attractive to young children and go so well with the sing-song poem-like prose in which God's love, forgiveness (no matter the sin!) and hope are presented in this way that is easy to understand.

Every young (and even us old folk!) person faces situations that are fearful, unknown and difficult, whether real or imagined.  These also could be a result of the bad choices they have made or someone else in their lives has made.  So, a book that can explain in an innocent and sweet way that God never leaves them no matter what and that His love is eternal is worth its weight in gold.

Now to the giveaway.  4 Fire Tablets are being given away that have this sweet book already loaded on it!  Be sure to enter below!  :-)

Three more winners will each win a print copy of The Everywhere God
The Everywhere God is a book about hope for children of all ages. Written for his young granddaughter during a particularly difficult time, the late Pastor Bob Nelson wanted to be sure she knew God was with her no matter what else was happening. Despite people and circumstances, his message is clear, God never leaves or forgets about us and His love never ends. Upon it's completion, he knew it was something special and wanted to make it a children's book. Unfortunately, time passed and things never fell into place for his vision to come to life. He passed away in 2008 before he could see it happen. More than 20 years after it's original writing, Bob Nelson's daughter remembered this treasured poem and like her father, felt it needed to be shared with the world. For many years she kept this special story in the back of her heart and always dreamed of making his vision for a children's book a reality.

A Blessed Christmas!

I wish all of you a blessed Christmas!  Let us never forget the true meaning of Christmas-- the most precious Gift every given, the Miracle of the Incarnation, the Word becoming Flesh and laid in a manger in Bethlehem.  Let us always sing with the angels "Gloria in Excelsis Deo!"

I shared this poem last year and so many enjoyed reading it that I thought I would share it again.

"Twas the night before Christmas and all through the town,
While Joseph was seeking a place for the Child;The children were nestled, each snug in their beds,
The grown-ups wouldn't bother, there's no room they said;
When even the innkeeper send them away,
Joseph was wondering, where they would stay;
He thought of the caves in the side of the hills,
Let's go there said Mary, it's silent and still;
The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow,
Made pathways of light for their tired feet to go;
And there in a cave, in a cradle of hay,
Our Savior was born on that first Christmas Day!
The Father was watching in Heaven above,
He sent for His angels, His couriers of love,
More rapid than eagles God's bright angels came;
Rejoicing and eager as each heard his name;
Come Power, Come Cherubs, Come Virtues, Come Raphael,
Come Thrones and Dominions, come Michael and Gabriel;
Now fly to the Earth, where My poor people live,
Announce the glad tiding My Son comes to give;
The Shepherds were watching their flocks on this night,
And saw in the heavens an unearthly light;
The Angels assured them, they'd nothing to fear,
It's Christmas they said, the Savior is here!
They hastened to find Him, and stood at the door,
Till Mary invited them in to adore;
He was swaddled in bands from His head to His feet,
Never did the shepherds see a baby so sweet!
He spoke not a word, but the shepherds all knew,
He was telling them secrets and blessing them too;
Then softly they left Him, The Babe in the hay,
And rejoiced with great joy on that first Christmas Day;
Mary heard them exclaim as they walked up the hill,
Glory to God in the Highest, Peace to men of good will!"--Sr. St. Thomas, BND de N

Remembering the 'Day that will live in Infamy'

Today, December 7 is Pearl Harbor Day. I wonder if the enormity of the day in our nation's history will be remembered in even 30 seconds on the evening news? Perhaps it will make it into the daily paper? We should never forget the sacrifice of that day and of the roughly 1,460 days that followed. Never again or since has an entire generation, both home and on the battlefield, stepped up and answered its nation's call. We owe everything to these brave men and women, our grandparents, who showed us the true meaning of sacrifice, determination, courage and strength. If you have a member of that greatest generation still alive in your family, thank them on this day. Remember and honor what they did so we all could be free.

Croatian Bear Paw Cookies

As we continue our study of the geography and culture of Europe, we made these delicious cookies. Croatia, a nation right across the Adriatic from Italy, has much of the Italian language and culture, but also has a distinguished identity of its own.  I had never learned about this nation as a child because it was part of communist Yugoslavia until the 1990s.

We enjoyed these cookies from a traditional Croatian recipe.

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 cup of sugar
3 1/2 cups ground walnuts (I used ground almond meal)
7/8 cup of butter (1 cup minus 2 tablespoons)
1 egg
2 tablespoons honey
1 tsp. vanilla (I used 2)
powdered sugar for coating

Combine together walnuts, flour, baking powder and sugar.  Add egg, honey, vanilla, butter and work in a dough.  Put in fridge for at least 30 minutes.  Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Grease the Madeleine molds and sprinkle lightly with flour.  Set aside.  Break off pieces of dough and lightly press into cookie molds.

Bake for 15 minutes (or until golden brown) and coat with powdered sugar while still hot.

Enjoy!  We sure did!  The kids are already asked for more.  Definitely a hit here!  :-)
