Sentosa Outing

Next week is school holidays, so we have decided to organise a Sentosa outing for the small group on 8th sept, Saturday (next sat). We will be going to Sentosa in the morning (the time depends on what time everyone can make it). For the kids, we will be playing at the beach and playing soccer at the field, just like last year. We seldom get to play soccer during term time so this is a great opportunity. For the adults, take a day off to relax by the beach andfellowship with fellow friends. This is a great opportunity for everyone to catch up with one another. In the evening, we will be going to vivo city for dinner and maybe also to watch a movie. I Believe in the Resurrection of the Body

Because Jesus resurrected from His death, we know that as believers, we too will experience resurrection. But for now, what are it's implications to us?
1. We are to be transformed into His likeness
2. We are to consider ourselves dead to sin but alive (resurrected) to a new life in Christ
3. We are to remenber who we are and to whom we belong

A dog returns to its vomit, a clean pig to the mud

We are in this world but we do not belong to it (John 15:19).

If we have escaped the corruption of this world by knowing our Lord Jesus, let us not again be entangled in it (2 Peter 2:20).

Otherwise, we will be worse off than before, like a dog returning to its vomit and a pig that has been washed returning to the mud
(2 Peter 2:21,22).

Let this image of "filth"reinforce our resolve to be “separate” (come out from) from those who live their lives pursuing the treasures of this world (2 Cor 6:17).

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matt 6:19-21)

FLEE TEMPTATIONS, DON"T RESIST THEM!

The Bible tells us to flee 3 things:
1. Flee Sexual Immorality (1 Cor 6:18)
2. Flee from Idolatry (1 Cor 10:14)
3. Flee from the Love of Money* (1 Tim 6:9-11) *the temptation to want to get rich

We are to flee from the temptation that comes from these things.

Temptation never comes from God.

Temptation comes from either:
1. The Devil (Mt 4:3, 1Thess 3:5, 1 Cor7:5) or
2. Our Fleshly Desires (James 1:13,14)

We do not sin when we are tempted, but if we yield to temptation, we sin (James 1:15).

When faced with temptations, what are we to do other then fleeing?
1. “Submit to God…Come near to God and He will come near to you” (James 4:7,8)
2. “Resist the Devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7)
3. “Stand firm in your faith…And the God of all grace will… make you strong (1 Peter 5:9,10)

What Are Our Motives?

"You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives" (James 4:3)

What are our motives beind every plan, every decision and every action?
How do we know when we have the wrong motives?
"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well" (Matt 6:33)

"For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joint and marrow; it judges the thought and attitudes of the heart" (Heb 4:12)

Why Do We Do What We Do?

Hi friends,

We meet again for small group on 7th Dec (Thurs) 8pm at my place.
We will be doing the 3rd session on "Nurturing the Inner Life".
This week, we will focus on the Arena of Motivation.
Why do we do what we do? What is the motivation behind what we do at work, at home, in church, with friends?
Are we minding the things of God or are we minding the things of men? (Matt 6:33)
Let us come and learn about the 3 most common misguided motivations and the means of ascertaining the motivations of our hearts.
As I was reading from Hebrews chapter 6 last night, verse one just struck me as a word from God for our Small Group:
"Therefore, let us leave the elementary teaching about Christ and go on to maturity....."
I want to thank God that he had helped some of us grow in our faith over the past one year. However, as a Small Group, have we progressed beyond the "elementary teachings" and "go on to maturity"?
It is apt that we take some time to consider this question as we prepare ourselves for the session on "Motivation". What is our motivation for coming for small group meetings? Are we fulfilling God's "agenda" in our Small Group? As a Small Group, how and where can we move from where we are?
