"we can't change the cards we're dealt, we can only change how we play them"

the late randy pausch said that. i never knew him, i wish i met him or saw him in real life. he's a true inspiration. he's the kind of person whom you'd just have to meet and you'd be energized to carry on with life and to continue battling through it. i'm not likening him to Jesus, cos that is just irreverant, but Jesus has that same effect on people don't you think. and i'm looking forward to meeting Him during conference. i'm going to keep holding on.

anyway, that wasn't my point. i was thinking about how this lesson is a universal lesson. when i use the word universal i basically mean it's both a secular as well as christian idea. basically it is choosing our response to situations. when something crops up, how do we respond.. with tears, hopelessness, despair or with joy, hope and prayer. the rhyme was completely unintended. of course that's not an exhaustive list of responses, but the idea of choice is seen everyday in every action and thought we make.

"Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!"
#phil 4:4
until now, i find this the hardest response to cultivate. even after 3 years after the "shout for joy" conference, i still struggle choosing joy when things seem bleak, and when i'm lost and don't know what to do in life. yes, i choose to trust and i still do- and that brings joy, but the hard part is sustaining the joy when joy-sappers keep coming along to shake your trust. but i am thankful for the little spurts of joy that come. (:

"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you."
#phil 4:8,9
choice of thought, practising self-control on the mind. i think what tr aileen said that struck me the most was not to let other people's sins taint you. that was a really cool lesson. the mind can be the most powerful and the weakest part of you, that can work for or against you. as much as people always say that women are confusing and difficult to understand, i think anyone with a deep and complex entity such as a mind will be confusing and difficult to understand.

at this point the movie irobot comes into mind. even if humans are able to wield such technology to create robots with minds of their own, do we really want to.. i doubt anybody would be able completely fathom the mind and its powers. as much as we want to progress and help mankind with science and technology, do we really want to play God when our understanding, no matter how deep and wide will always have a limit.

i know my blog entry is completely incoherent and disorganised with ideas everywhere.. but it's just a random string of thoughts. lol!

ANYWAY. to continue with my thoughts on making choices and our responses. i was then thinking about how the ambiguity of the english language affects this so much. you know, although jackson wasn't a very good substitte for a gp tutor.. his perspective of the ambuigity of languages really stuck with me, and i've been thinking a lot about it, it's a very refreshing opinion. yeah. anyway, there are a myriad of responses that we can make, an each response can be intrepreted in many different ways. and when it comes to interpreting something that someone says, there's always good and bad. and somehow i find that as much as i wish people would always give me the benefit of the doubt, i hardly do that to others, somehow, this growing cynicism tends to let the positive interpretations gloss over me, and what i sieve out are always the negative connotations, which isn't good because i tend to misinterpret a lot of people. and on top of that, being highly sensitive, misinterpretation sometimes makes me upset. and after typing this long incoherent entry, i realise i make it worse by letting my thoughts spiral on and on.

well, that was a long entry. i'm done rambling. haha. now to post prom photos! (:

i'm sorry you feel that way. and i will always be sorry we're not friends anymore.

It's gonna be a night (Can't wait)
To remember (oh, man)
C'mon now (Big fun, alright)
It's gonna be the night (I guess)
To last forever
We'll never, ever, ever Forget!

(:
it's alright cam, not all dreams and wishes can come true.

Photobucket
chocolate chip cookies. (: i only dare put the picture of what i baked cos it actually tasted normal and nice!

Photobucket
caught up with jeanne and wayne over dinner at the restaurant with no gst. and we covered all the necessary topics! late night shopping that made jeanne and cam happy :D

Photobucket
went to watch that little choir president sing her heart out on stage. (: it made me really happy to hear how proud everyone was of her (:
it was definitely an experience, unprecedented feelings and thoughts. it's really not that i'm hardup for everybody to like me, it really is just them.
Photobucket
kolo mee at vivo. (: haha. such uncanny coincidences that freak me out. we were wearing the same thing and eating the same thing one whole year ago!
anyway, we realised that banquet and kopitiam are right next to each other, and food from one side cannot be brought over to either side. so we had a lonely lunch on either side of the barrier. such losers eh.
Photobucket
in the back of uncle ahgong's car. (:
Photobucket
with her new chip and dale watch from those spinny machine things. and as any other girl, she took a long time to decide which toy she wanted. her watch came in handy though (: she kept telling us the time throughout the day and she was happily counting down to the start of the movie. (:
Photobucket
awww.. cousin benben and lovette.
Photobucket
the two of them playing wii. these two ah.. kept fighting and fighting over winning and losing. HAHAHAHA. well, it was my first time playing wii! yet nobody was nice enough to help me take photos of how retarded i was jumping up and down trying to make my princess peach jump up and down the trampoline. well i don't think i'm going to be playing wii for quite awhile, i don't really like playing wii. i've never advocated vicarious living, and i must say this completely embodies all i am against. i'd rather go into the pool and swim or pick up a tennis racket and slide all across the court. not just flick my wrist and watch myself do a smash hardly breaking a sweat. hahahaha. and i think just being lousy at any computer game or digital game compounds my dislike for wii. hahahaha.

and today, despite my abhorrence for winx club, i actually watched winx club the movie. dundundundun!! but seeing how happy and excited little lovette was really made me smile. (: just holding her hand and walking around felt wonderful (: we got the mom and tot ticket which meant lovette got in for free and also meant that i felt weird.. cos uhh, i'm not old enough to be her mum. o.0 brought her to the toys section to look at toys and she ended up watching some kid playing some wall-e game. hahaha. and this weirdo overgrown kid standing in the toy section was helping him get through the different levels. ben would have just called me bossy. but i was just trying to help. oh yes, and while lovette and i were doing all this, ben was happily scaring himself silly watching quarantine in another theatre. cos he just refused to watch winx. hahaha. but we all had a goooood time. (: it's actually quite cool taking little children out. lol. ben will make a very responsible father, but an overly paranoid one too. haha. :D

anyway. happy birthday supermanmarktanfukun! :D

if i were a boy. not you.

and here i am now.
it's only been 6 days since the end of A's. but i've had a lot of fun. and i'm still not getting enough.

and i've learnt that not checking your e-mail is A CRIME. omg. lesson learnt. but unfortunately forgiveness just isn't going to do it. there they go. the opportunity cost of fun is my future. and the worse thing is that i still cannot decide.

there's a dearth of photos on this blog. but my new camera gives added incentive to take more photos albeit less cool than my previous orange camera- it will do i guess. (: more photos. (: and i don't look any tanner actually.

prom's next week! (: and then conference and then bintan and then christmas! :D :D :D

exams are FINALLY over. it really wasn't that dramatic since i started relaxing awhile ago. well, it was a terrible run, and all i can do is wait till the results are out- definitely not looking forward to that. so many things to do. (: i love having time instead of notes on my hands. now comes the challenge of using my time as productively as possible. and so i have started. i was on the train listening to "the script" and productively thinking about life, globalisation, technology and avoiding the drooping head of the man next to me. (cue: schadenfreude! i couldn't stop laughing at him eh) don't you think it's ironic how globalisation is all about being interconnected and demolishing geographical barriers and all that jazz, yet with the influx and burgeoning of modern technology, it seems like anti-social behaviour is being advocated.. mp3 players, psps, handphones, e-mails yada yada keep people to themselves, there's so little of personal interaction nowadays, less quality time spent together.. and yeah that's just a little of what i was thinking about. i still think playing spot the differences on the train ride isn't counted as spending time together.

watched avenueq with wee on sunday. it was o-kay i guess. the singing was really good. phillipinos are really talented, i wouldn't be surprised if kate monster was the next lea salonga! but i think having heard the songs over and over and knowing all the jokes already didn't make it as fun as a virgin experience of avenueq though wee didn't seem too impressed with it. i'm sure EVERYbody's going to be wearing "the internet is for porn" shirt.. when it comes to stuff like this, i'm like phoebe and i don't like pottery barn.

i HAVE to catch up with people. (: holidays here i come!

i hate having dreams like that, dreams that i can't stop, dreams of people that i don't want to be thinking about. but these dreams just prove to me how much some things bug me, even though i wish they didn't. and as much as i like apache helicopters i really have got to stop hovering. and just like that he's out of my life.

and so obama prevails. (:

news anchor people come up with really lame jokes like:

"the race about race"
which referred to the presidential race as well as the racial differences between obama and mccain. and you know i think she thought nobody heard it cos her co-anchor didn't laugh, so she said it again and again. which is really dumb cos everybody else watching tv heard it, and didn't laugh either cos it just wasn't those puns which make you go 'oh yeahhh'.

"the conservatives and independents are feeling blue"
cos blue represented the democrats and red represented the republicans, so when republicans conceded defeat, they were sad=blue and they also had to be led by the democrats=blue. some of them actually laughed eh. aiyo..

reporters should just stick to reporting the news.

the best joke still had to be on jimmy kemmel live.
this crazy guy who was supporting mccain was being interviewed, and he was totally trying to diss obama so he said.
"hey! obama's middle name is hussien and hussien rhymes with insane! so you should vote for mccain!" hahahahahahahaha. everytime i think about this joke, i can't help but laugh. shooting yourself in the foot is totally fine, doing it on on world television is just HILARIOUS. but anyhoos, i think it was scripted.

there are so many views about the elections, contradictory and complementary. okay, yeah so i guess it's a big change for america to have their first african-american president, i'm sure if hilary clinton won, they would be really happy too cos it'd have been their first woman president as well. anyway, back to obama. americans are now talking about how america has transcended race just cos they have an african-american president. isn't that an extremely sweeping statement to make? and one of the people asked to comment on the elections mentioned how people all around the world should have a higher regard for america now just cos of this? hmm.. and if the elections was just a repudiation of the current president and his party then weren't the elections very partial. gotta read up about it after a's and think about it. (: much to do and think about after a's. (:

my holiday planner only has one word and i'll vote you over obama any time. (:
