Solicitors not a problem we've had much of, the odd missionary, one homeless guy who wanted "a sip of water" (which is to say some cash, I directed him to the big grocery store and the artesian well) and occasionally neighborhood kids selling candy for some vague "school charity." But RR has had a recent infestation. Don't know if signs will stop 'em, but I found a good selection.
Went out with Eleanor in one hand and a lawn chair in the other, wearing crocs, and my foot hit the edge and bobbled. I came down hard, but managed not to fall, nor drop the cat. Sat there as she rolled on the sidewalk and industriously sniffed (as she does), and tried to catch my breath. I think I sprained my big toe. D eventually came out and helped me get cat and chair, and myself, in.
Soaked and iced and capsaisin'd, nsaid'ed and elevated. It's certainly sore, but hopefully I can tend it thoroughly enough to keep it getting worse. Bugger. Not much swolled up, the new shoes protected it, and today was silly short at work.
Well, fine then.
Damnit.
Oh, and it's fucking 104fucking˚F, 39C, and this sucks. No climate change my ass.

An interesting selection, but it depends how you define 'solicitors' and 'soliciting'. Over here solicitors are lawyers, and soliciting is done by ladies who go out at night looking for special friends. My lawyer son would be all right about the British and handsome one.
Ouch! Hope the toe recovers soon.
RR,
Means both of those things here as well, but then also this door-to-door by stranger meaning. These days, such solicitors are largely scams, as you have had. Otherwise it doesn't get much everyday use. Lawyers, prostitutes and scammers = solicitors. I don't see any contradiction.
(Your son excepted of course, but then I'm sure he's heard all the jokes.)
My kids have occasionally gone door to door on our street to sell girl guide cookies. We've had moderate success in getting the boxes sold this way. If we saw such a sign (any one of them) on a house, we would skip it.
At our own house we receive solicitors (the way you used the term in your post) very infrequently; I imagine that they do come when no one is home, as often, we aren't.
I understand you are hating the heat, but I wouldn't mind a short heat spell that was as hot as what you are facing - so far it has been a very cool spring and this young summer hasn't been particularly hot.
We got 25mm of rain on Sunday, this past weekend, so that was good. It was only 15C out that day, which is not so good.
I'm working Canada Day to get Friday off and will be away camping, at least the weather is looking good for that.
Phil,
GS cookies are largely welcomed, although when the girls are sent off without parents in strange neighborhoods, I think that should be discouraged generally.
Oh, yeah, happy Canada Day tomorrow!
