Slowly but surely, I am catching up! Let's round up September, shall we?!? :)
The first major thing to remember from September was this -
homemade SOURDOUGH pizza!!!
I had heard from multiple people that even though I react strongly to yeast, that sourdough might be a safe alternative to making breads. I finally got the courage to try and the results were wonderful and oh so delicious! Unfortunately, sourdough is just a natural form of yeast and while it didn't cause the raging infections that manufactured yeast does, it still gave me a few problems. BUT - that being said, there will definitely be more sourdough pizza in my future!
This picture is completely random but rather funny when you know the back story.
Kjetil had "lost" his keys at the beginning of September. We searched high and low but no keys could be found. We figured a small child had run off with them and assumed they'd show up in a couple of days. Weeks passed and still no keys. We ended up finding them one evening when I pulled the drying rack out to dry some clothing and wouldn't you know it - there were his keys! I am not sure we can safely blame the little people for that but at least we found them ;)
The weather is getting colder and Fall is definitely here in Stavanger!
With the arrival of colder weather, we have broken out the wool, thicker coats, gloves and ear warmers. These particular ear warmers were a gift from Tante Hilde.
Stavanger has a slight case of PMS when it comes to the weather front. Some days it feels like it could snow or that you are going to be blown away by the force of the winds and then there are other days when it is warm enough to drop wearing a coat. Those are the days where we literally drop everything and spend all of our time outside. I'd say that Emily and Joseph didn't mind a morning at the park!
These two are becoming better friends although it is easy to see that they are also quickly becoming best frenemies as well. They love each other fiercely but can quickly be annoyed and frustrated with each other as well.
With Joseph's birthday just around the corner, we are noticing some emotional changes in him. He is more sensitive, less willing to roll with the punches and quicker to react with sadness or anger. He is still my easy-going Joseph but there are more moments of emotion which means more moments of comfort and love that are needed from mamma!
I was literally knocked flat on my back by an intense cold during September. I have said it before and I will say it again - pregnant women should be immune to such things! I sent this picture to Kjetil when he asked if I was feeling any better...
Lydia and Joseph have been close buddies during the last few weeks. It is fun to see how creative and imaginative they can be together. Her preschool teachers have told me that she plays a lot with the younger boys in her group and I assume it is because they remind her of playing with Joseph.
Speaking of barnehage friends, Nathan's closest friend from his class (Lea) was a year younger than him. These two friends absolutely love each other. When we pick up Lydia, they run to each other, give huge hugs and then run off to play. We had her over for an afternoon and it was like they had never been separated from each other. It will be fun when she starts at school next year!
Books have become a big thing in our house since Nathan started school. He has a new book with him each week that we read together as homework. He is starting to recognize more words and it very interested in letters. He doesn't always love to read the same book over and over again throughout the week but I think he is enjoying the process of learning.
Lydia has always loved books and she can spend quite a bit of time looking at books. Lately, she has been going in to Emily's room in the mornings and "reading" books to her until we come and get Emily out of her crib.
Occasionally, she gives Emily her own books to look at as well.
Kjetil and his mom took the kids to the city a few weeks back to see the Fire Department and all the fire trucks.
We have done this activity every year with the children but it is usually held at the fire station. This year, it was held at the harbor. The kids got to hold the fire hose and pretend to put out a fire. That is usually their favorite part!
Climbing in the trucks is another highlight of the day!
And becoming an unofficial fire fighter is right up there with the other two events!
