3 Months in Sispec
The first day i entered sispec, i started to think about what i'm going to achieve during my time here. Taking one step at a time, i aimed to get silver for my ippt. Took my first 28km march , flung badly for my SOC. Shooting wasn't what i'm good at. Under the command of a young and ambitious platoon commander, Warrant Omar. He criticizes me for things i'm not good at, taught us things by telling us to do first, without explanations that allows us to learn by ourselves. That is a really great way to learn because we totally understand why we have to do something. Those things make up my 2 months in Basic Section Leader Course(BSLC).
After BSLC comes my Advanced Section Leader Course (ASLC) term which many says no to it. It is a course that further touches on more infantry skills. Since i got here, its a by hook or by crook thing for me to complete. I realized that SOC is something i have to work harder for in order to complete, as it is a veto factor for ASLC. I started preparing myself 2 weeks before the actual test. I took on a disciplined habit which consist of no soft drinks after a vigorous activity, no gulping of water(taking sips when drinking for more effective absorption), no alcohol during weekends, wearing of Standard Battle Order(SBO) when others take them off. That is the extra mile i took. My timing for SOC improved vastly from 14min 25sec to 9min 35 sec, from a fail to a pass!
IPPT Gold was the second target for me to achieve. The motivation is the extra $100 which i'm too near but yet not able to achieve.I decided to retake the test. The first try was close with 9cm away for my Standing Broad Jump(SBJ) station. The other 4 stations were cleared. Second attempt, and yet my SBJ was only 4cm away. I'm getting closer and closer but still not yet good enough to achieve gold. Repeated failures never stopped me from trying again. I took my third attempt and achieved gold. I did it!

A new passion, Camping
Ever since i bought this new tent, i've felt the strong eagerness to pitch it up. So today morning, i drove to sembawang park to pitch this thing up to see how it looks like
The picture of my tent below.

I tied a hammock to the tree, relax while listening to music, though the sun is scorching hot. But the hammock comes with a cover to prevent any glare from entering.
And when the wind blows, the hammock swings from side to side, catching every gust of wind. I took a small nap while listening to my favourite music. It's fantastic.

Just Not me
Used to be the friendly, able to speak to people with confidence me suddenly feel so afraid. Something in my mind is hindering the way i communicate with people.
I just feel like its not myself anymore.

My dream is to travel
Every moment of training in army feels like torture when i start to think that people at home are having a comfortable life watching tv, or heading out to party.
Navigation is one of the useful skills i learned as well as basic jungle survival skills.

Last week during my field camp in Choa chu kang forest, i felt so demoralised having to march into a forest with a deep canopy and thick vegetation, while being able to see the bright view of the HDB flats shadowed with tall trees. I think of home, while i'm at the jungle and the feeling just sucks.
Then i'll start to think that why do i have to go through all this shit while people are having a comfortable life.
I couldn't understand the answer until i downloaded GoogleEarth software and start to see some nice places in Japan. And oh yea, i definitely wanna travel.

And the first step to it is to learn how to survive in the jungle and to navigate using maps and compass. It's just like going from places to places in another country but with my well equipped skills from army, I definitely have a better understanding of how to travel in future.

Firstly have to take the cost to travel in consideration. A class 2 motobike, WOSH!! which is cheaper than a car, which is able to carry a heavy load of camping equipment for outdoors sleeping. Able to save effectively overseas is a goal to achieve a longer duration of the trip. My equipment includes a map of the area, compass, lightweight laptop, lightweight camping equipment, food rations, digital camera or DSLR depending on how rich i can get in 30-37 years old.
To see a wide variety of creatures, plants and people, i'll travel

A sad moment

I never thought that losing someone so important to you can be so painful. The simple acts of everyday love that you didn't noticed for so long suddenly became so clear.
It was when i attended my grandmother's funeral today that i realised how important it is to treasure my family, especially my parents.
Life is short and time is fast. A blink of an eye, one year passed like as though it was 1 second away.
I hope that the day will never come for me to see someone goes before me. It is too just to painful to imagine it happen.

I like this video
The Third & The Seventh from Alex Roman on Vimeo.
A FULL-CG animated piece that tries to illustrate architecture art across a photographic point of view where main subjects
are already-built spaces. Sometimes in an abstract way. Sometimes surreal.
