The quail is the state bird and the poppy the state flower. The mural can be found at MacArthur and 108th Avenue close to the San Leandro border. It was created in 2011 as a collaboration between several people and agencies. The primary artists are Dan Fontes and Caroline Stern who were recruited by the methadone clinic whose wall carries this mural. Fontes has previously been featured

here. This neighborhood has more than its share of crime and blight. Although the wall has several tags, none are written on the mural. A recent newspaper article indicates that the mural is valued by the local community and is a bright spot in a beleaguered neighborhood.
