Footloose in Rotterdam for 3 Days

Image
Rotterdam is a city that has come a long way in a short time. And it was fun to visit the city centre and get footloose in Rotterdam by myself. We lived in the Netherlands back in the late 1990s and Rotterdam was kind of dull back then to be honest – it had the Euromast and cube houses (still there) but it was a city where you did business, rather than sightseeing. Oh, how times have changed…  Smart city design has transformed Rotterdam into a place I would happily visit and explore again.   Day 1: We arrived by train at Rotterdam Centraal Station late one afternoon. Our hotel,  Premier Suites Plus , is a business hotel and was right across the road from the station. Gotta give them 5 stars for location! The room was basic, but comfortable; the main downside was the distinct lack of a wardrobe. Good gym though. We had a corner suite that looked over the square or plaza of Centraal Station. While that might be a noisy location in any other city, not so in Rotterdam thanks

Weekend Recharge in Krabi, Thailand

Image
If you like the idea of a beach holiday in Thailand and prefer smaller beach town vibes rather than bar-filled beach strips then you’ve gotta check out Krabi as opposed to Phuket. You can’t go wrong with a weekend recharge in Krabi. In my opinion, Krabi is one of the best beach places in all of South East Asia. Krabi always delivers the relaxed weekend recharge you need! This was our third trip to Ao Nang area in Thailand. This time, we chose the  Centara Grand Resort and Villas  at Ao Nang as our base. Ao Nang is a beach area which is an easy 40 minutes from Krabi airport. We flew out of Singapore on a Friday. The hour-fifteen-minute flight was over before we knew it. Day 1 Once we arrived at the airport we used  Grab app  to call a driver. Grab works well in Thailand. For future reference though, save yourself about 50 Thai baht (USD$1.50) and get going faster by using one of the private car hire desks right there at the exit. We drove to Noppharat Thara pier where the

The Best 1 hour Walks in Singapore

Image
Welcome to Singapore! Perhaps you’re on a short holiday or a business trip looking for an alternative to a gym workout – then consider a walk. You’ll sweat just as much – I promise! I’ve rounded up some of the best one hour walks in Singapore for you here. Old brick doorway at Gillman Barracks: T Jelsma People ask what it’s like to live in Singapore. Apart from the usual answers of ‘clean’ and ‘safe’, I have to add that it is exceptionally green. But it didn’t happen by accident. Singapore started on the City in a Garden concept back in 1963 and its evolved into just that.  Singapore is noisy with all the traffic, so walks are a great respite as well as good exercise. You will find me most days walking somewhere along the Southern Ridges. My favourite walks in the tropical humidity of Singapore are about 1 – 1.5 hours in length (brisk walking pace). The deeper you dig, the more great places you will find to walk, all for free. There are clear paths where ever you go. Good to
