Spring Parties

Kaedan and Carter had their spring parties at school the Friday before Easter. I was so glad to be able to help at Carter's class party. I normally help at one class party for each of them each year, but work and life has been crazy so this was my first one this year. It was nice to be with Carter and his class and I finally felt like a good mom for being able to go and help. :) Carter's class did a Biggest Loser theme and had 4 stations set up with different activities. I only grabbed pics of two because I was helping with the fruit dip during the other two rotations.

The kids all had their favorite fruits and tried new ones.
Carter and his friend Caleb making funny faces.
Kaedan's class didn't have a traditional 'Spring party' since they have so many other things going on in 6th grade right now. They did have some donuts and juice and I grabbed a couple pics of him and some friends.
Thanks for the great day boys!!

GNO!!

My mother-in-law and sister-in-laws and I had the funnest girls night out a few weeks ago! We treated my mother in law to a night out for her birthday since she normally treats us. She asked for that instead of presents this year. It started out with a yummy dinner at Chili's. That is totally your look Bev! :) Then we went to Sparetime for some galactic bowling (and silly pics).

Katie and I decided to see which entertaining ways we could bowl each turn. This consisted of twirling, skipping, bowling backwards, bowling sideways, you name it! We all had so much fun! And when we were done with our first game we did one more game for just one player and all took turns. The Sparetime employee put that game on the house and we were delighted to find that we were that entertaining! lol! Thanks for the fun night gals! Love you tons!

Our Little Soccer Player

This is Tre's first year of rec soccer! He's so excited and can't wait for their games to begin! He's playing up a bit as they typically don't start until they're 4, but he really wanted to play and we figured he was ready given his Smart Start Sports sessions and Challenger soccer camp last year. They have one more week of practice and then their games begin. Cousin Carter is playing on the same team so it will be fun to see Jeff and Holly and their family more throughout the week. As always, you gotta love that tongue! Just like big brother Carter!!

Here's our little #11 coming back from a kick and giving that tall, dark, and handsome coach a high 5!

I am so thankful for the amazing dad Troy is to our boys! He is such a family man and I adore that!! He has coached them all in one sport or another and is currently coaching Carter in comp basketball, Tre in soccer, and is Kaedan's biggest fan! He creates many amazing opportunities for each of them. Thanks Babe! We love you!!

Great Night of Basketball!

Teach me how to Jimmer Kaedan! Okay, maybe not quite there~ lol! But it was a great night of basketball for Kaedan tonight! I didn't have my camera on me and it was nice to just watch and cheer (and chat with the other moms), but I do wish I would've been able to snag a picture... Kaedan scored 13 points in his comp basketball game tonight (playing up a year even)! He had three 3 pointers and two 2 pointers. One of his 2 pointers was very close to being another 3! He told me on our drive home that he used to shoot until he made it and lately he's been shooting until he misses. It's so nice to see him building up his confidence and his skills. The only shot he missed tonight was a lay up when he didn't have great footing. The other team started guarding him pretty heavily and he made sure he wasn't a ball hog and had several great assists. His boards and steals were phenomonal! He was on fire and it was so fun to watch!! Great game Kaedan!! Poor Carter has had late games and either Tre or I have been sick for the last couple of them so I can't wait to get my 'Carter fix' after their bye this week! I haven't been able to capture any pictures of Carter's games this spring session (his also started later than Kaedan's) so I'll be packing the camera next time for sure. Stay tuned... :)

Kaedan~ Lakeside Laudable Lion

Kaedan was chosen as the 'Laudable Lion' for his class for his problem solving and math skills. This is a big award for students at Lakeside and he'll be recognized at an upcoming assembly. His principal called me last week to read the paragraph below that his teacher Mrs. Lee (who we LOVE) submitted.
"Kaedan Nye is a natural problem solver. He is always working to solve problems in math and loves when he can figure out the problem faster or more efficiently than me. Kaedan is also a leader with his peers. Many students observe his reaction to a situation to gauge what their reaction should be. Kaedan is very bright and, he is always willing to help neighboring students whether it is in math or any other subject. Kaedan is confident enough in who he is and in his abilities to take on new challenges or opportunities without apprehension. He can always make things work and will practice to achieve a new skill. I am happy to have Kaedan in my class and enjoy his personality."
We are so proud of you and the young man you are becoming Kaedan! Keep up the good work and your possibilities are endless!

Sports Revolution Speed Training

Kaedan and Carter have really been enjoying their speed training from Sports Revolution. Their head trainer is Bradon Godfrey who played wide receiver for University of Utah and spent some time in the NFL playing for the Buffalo Bills, Atlanta Falcons, and the Baltimore Ravens. Sports Revolution provided the training at the U last week for 'Pro Day' where college athletes performed for 28 NFL scouts. The boys think it's really neat to be trained by the same people as those collegiate athletes and possible future NFL players. Carter especially loves that Bradon Godfrey played wide receiver and coaches wide receivers since that's his position in football. They have another coach, Brad Clifford, who played and coaches tight ends so of course Kaedan loves that! Kaedan was featured on Sports Revolution's Facebook wall this last week!! Here's what they had to say about him. "The way we run has a lot to do with how fast we run. Each of us have the ability to increase our limits of speed by developing the key ingredients that equal SPEED! Running form and technique happen to be one of those ingredients. Congratulations Kaedan Nye! Your form is excellent!"

Carter also made one of their pictures, though you can't really see his face in this one. I'm hoping they get a better one of Carter over the next few weeks and maybe even feature him. We'll see since he's one of the younger athletes they're training. :)
Way to go boys! We sure love the passion and drive you have for these kinds of things!

Croup and Stomach Flu~ Ugh!

Tre's had a pretty good case of croup since Tuesday and Carter's had the stomach flu since the middle of the night on Wednesday and hasn't been up off the couch or out of his bed since tonight. Needless to say, we've seen a lot of this...

(Before Steroids)
And this...
Since Tre's croup hasn't gotten any better in 4 days and he's stayed croupy all day long this round (after his last milder round a few weeks ago) with his fever hovering steady around 102 degrees, his doctor put him on a double dose of strong steroids. Tre's very prone to croup and has been known to get it every 2-3 weeks for periods between fall and spring occasionally landing us in the ER in the middle of the night to get him a racemic epinephrine treatment to open up his airways. He had a bronchoscopy (throat scope) at Primary's a couple years ago to ensure everything's anatomically correct and his airways aren't too narrow after getting croup every 2-3 weeks from October to December. I read up on Decadron after I gave it to him to find out that it's 4-5 times more potent than Prednisone, which is typically the steroid Tre takes for croup. Needless to say~ Tre was a little out of control for most of today. Okay~ a lot out of control!!! I learned that Tre on a double dose of steroids with his cape on thinking he's Astro Boy and Syndrome from The Incredibles = a whole lot of fun! Tre actually got dressed in a 'super hero outfit' all by himself including the cape one of the boys picked up for him at the economics fair at school a couple years ago.

(After Steroids)

Here he is 'flying' off his bed. This picture doesn't even do it justice!! He was so hyper and aggressive and just wanted to 'fight' Kaedan and Carter like Megamind and Metro Man. The boys even asked how much longer Tre has to be on the steroids. Luckily, they're strong enough that with the double dose he only has to be on them two days. I don't think we could handle it any longer than that. lol!

I always say that Tre's like Carter on steroids! I had no idea. :) I guess we'd better lay off the super hero movies for a bit as Tre's definitely had the 'exaggerated sense of well-being, mood swings, and personality changes' listed under the side effects of the steroid. I can't wait to get my sweet little Tre back, though I am so grateful for how much steroids help him when he's sick.

Kite Flying

Troy took the boys up to the park on Saturday to take advantage of the windy day and fly some kites! Thanks Babe! Such a cute idea! I was behind taking care of some much needed and overdue things at the house but Troy took some pictures to capture some of their moments. :)

Glad you guys were able to get out and have a fun time! I can't wait to go with all you boys next time!

Our Little Mathematicians!

I have to document how well the boys are both doing in math for our book next year. They excel in all their school subjects, but math is the one they both really stand out in.

Kaedan informed us on Friday that he's tested out of success maker at school. He's been doing a lot of math using that program on a computer at school to challenge him more and he's tested out with several months of school left. That means he's up to a 10th grade math level before he's finished 6th grade. Way to go Kaed! We are so proud of you!

And last week Carter brought home an award in recognition of an excellent submission in 'Utah's largest math event' last year. He tested really high and was recognized by the president and board members of the UCTM. Yahoo Carts! So proud of you pal!

Keep it up boys and you will be able to go to the college of your choice (as long as it's close)... :)

Kaedan's First Game of Spring Session of Comp Basketball

Spring session of comp basketball is underway. Carter's first game was Monday night. I didn't take any pictures at that game so I'll have to take pictures of this weeks game. Kaedan had a few really good steals and rebounds!

Tre loves to go out on the court after their games and shoot.
Carter's friend Caleb ate dinner with us and then came to the game. He's a good kid and we're glad he lives just down the street.
Funny faces! I thought Aunt Katie would love these!
Kaedan's friend Caleb came with us too. We thought it was funny that both of their good friends were named Caleb. Carter's friend is so quiet and Kaedan's is very outgoing and talkative. Troy and I were laughing saying of course it's that way because Carter's so dang outgoing and talkative and Kaedan's more quite and laid back.
Can't wait until the basement's done so they can have more room to have friends over and do their thing while we do ours sometimes. :)
