the alternate ending!!!

*picking up from the alternate ending for the German version of the play*

Nora - No! (she falls to the ground and she begins to cry as the stress is too much for her to bare)

Torvald- you have no idea what you are saying! the children need their mother whether she is unfit or if she hasn't been doing the right things! stay! (Torvald walks towards her in a intimidating fashion,  yanking her off the ground.  he pulls her head full of tears to his face. they are now face to face) (intimately) now tell me, do you want your children to live with the fact that YOU QUIT on them because YOU had problems?! (beat)  THE WOMEN I LOVED, SAID SHE WAS UNFIT TO BE THE MOTHER OF THE CHILDREN SHE BORE?! you disgust me! i'd tarentella with a man whos been the master mind of crimes than the vile women you are!

Nora- (bawling) No Torvald please stop this!

Torvald- (lets go off of her) so many years spent with such a lying little squirrel! years ... time .... all wasted with the likes of you!  The thought of you doing such a thing ... (beat) IT PAINS ME! a mans honor can only bare so much!

Nora- you know nothing of honor! (beat) i spent years with the man who i thought was the love of life ... the MAN of my life (beat) i realize that it was nothing more than a house of lies. i am seen as a degenerate.  i was nothing more than a doll in your corrupt  little play house! ( she sighs)  (beat)now(beat) i have come to realize what i must do now. (beat) i must leave (beat)so this wont grow any worse. it seems that you and i cant even maintain a normal conversation with out you and your  limiting beliefs.

(torvalds face begins to grow red as he has grown infuriated)

Torvald- YOU WENCH! you have no idea what you are talking about! (beat) all of things you speak  of are out of line! the children , even god wouldn't favor  such ... (louder)such ...(louder) such heresy !!!

(the room grows silent as the hail begins to collide with the old glass that resides on the window. Both nora and torvald have exposed what they both truly feel about themselves and who they are too each other. the children wake up and walk in the hall way to the sight of their mother with tear stains over her face and their father as red as the devil himself.)

son - daddy what's happening, i can not sleep, the ice is too loud ,and you too are yelling again.... i cant take it!

torvald- (slowly shakes his head in disbelief) go to bed my son (beat) nothing is happening... (the son waits there expecting more of an answer) GO TO BED!

son- Alright! ... i'm sorry father

Nora- (muttering to herself) you deceive our children having them believe nothing is happening and yet you talk of honor?

Torvald- now what does my little skylark have to say now? (beat)  (with sarcasm) you already deceived me once, i shall not have it again.

Nora- you heard me you oaf! has the (with finger quotes) honorable man gone deaf as well?!

torvald- someone with the likes of you  doesn't even deserve to use the word honor! what happened to my skylark? the little girl who was so innocent? the women who needed help,  my comfort? it seems that all of this was just a mere facade .... i have no words left you leave if choose, but know that i will always love you the same i did when i met my little squirrel. i will yurn  for the day you come back when you are cleansed by god or some alternative.

(Nora nods and picks up her things and makes her way to the threshold with tear stains on her arms and face.)

Nora- i wont be.... ( she closes the door and walks freely with the thought new life and opportunity)

(she makes her way to the bank to deposit as much money as she can find with another forged signature she has been keeping just in case of  a scenario like this. she then heads to the pose office and sends a letter to her cousin in new York with news that she is moving. 3 weeks pass as she and mrs linde have been staying with each other preparing for the docking of the boat to america.

mrs linde-  Nora have you developed any second thoughts before you left

Nora- i have (she begins to tear) (beat) i must leave my children not only for their sake but for mine! they do not deserve to have a mother like me. Torvalds can raise them for now, though it will be hard to attain their forgiveness and Torvalds  forgiveness especially ... but i move on... and maybe he will learn something too from raising the children as well

Mrs linde (nods and doesn't question Nora's reasoning as she cant even fathom what Nora has just done as it is not even appropriate for a women to do this in her time line) alright then.

(Nora takes her brown suite case and catches the boat to america with hopes of new opportunity and development. she will never forget the events that had just occurred 3 weeks ago. she wishes her entire family well.)

(on the bow of the boat)

Nora- i wonder if this evasion will really help me... (there is a slight pause, the wind blows through Noras black silky hair) the sun... jauntily  setting on the horizon... is this the kind of uncorrupt freedom the Americans speak of? i hope to see if this is what they mean? (she holds her hands out, the salty wind blows through her the sun fully sets ending the day)

Based on what i had read on the last few days i can confidently say that the situation that both Nora and Krogstad are in is very vital. If the wrong person were to know the confidential information that Nora and krogstad had both known the relationships of all protagonists would change, especially between Nora and Torvald. As stated on page 190  "whatever happens , when it comes to the point you can be quite sure that i shall have the necessary courage and strength. you'll see that i'm man enough to take it all on by myself"(Ibsen 200) Helmer is proving that he is ready to face such information without the consent of everyone. how ever Nora still does not want him to know what the contents of the letter are in any circumstances. For any one to know this information this would bring a huge INTOLERABLE  reputation to not only Nora for doing the work but for Helmer who is supposed to be doing the work.
Towards the end it gets a bit weird as Nora gets a bit desperate with Helmer not knowing the content of the letter. Despite being very anxious and worried she played a very JAUNTILY like facade. She goes to an extent as to where she does very raunchy things like showing her legs and what not which is the equivalent to "flashing" in today's time which most of the society would REPROACH if done. as stated on page 193-194 "Silk stockings- Flesh coloured  aren't they lovely? the lights bad in here now but  tomorrow... no no no you must only look at the feet oh well you may see the rest too..... There is no one else id trust more than you. i know your my best friend most faithful friend so i'll tell you... well, dr rank - its something you must help me to stave  off. you know how much-  how incredibly deeply- torvald loves me. he wouldn't hesitate for a moment to give his life for me." (Ibsen 200) with this really odd like way to persuade a man in to giving her what she wants she fails in a weird way as Rank admits his feelings to her which ruin the moment. She even stated that she didn't like how it ruined it.
in my honest opinion i feel that the second act was probably the best out of all of them as all the tension is building up ,and watching the characters reveal their true colors as they go is priceless. i honestly can not wait for the next part :)

In the part of the play we had just read i believe that the conflicts represent one big conflict that even to this day we all deal with. the fact that almost everyone in this part of the play has been living in denial from the start. In the beginning Nora seems innocent at first acting as if she hasn't done anything wrong which gives off the fact that she is completely guilty of something she has committed which has been proven later in the act. As stated on page 166 "the thing is he's afraid i shall spoil my teeth with them. But pooh- just this once! That's right isn't it, dr rank? here![she pops a macaroon into his mouth] and now you, kristina or two at the most. [ pacing about again] oh. I'm really terribly happy!" The macaroons represents how corrupt the society was in that time period.

in this time period females were only looked at as second class citizens. for a women like norato be doing this kind of work would be completely unacceptable and she would be looked at as a degenerate. she was able to cover up this act of doing work by hiding it with a facade, where she squanders with the money made by her husband torvald. Nora isn't the only one lying or at least living in deception, the character Krogstad is trying to rebuild his life because he is seen as disreputable but is still causing conflict with in the act. He blackmails her and plays a facade in which he has gradually improved but in all reality he is still the same person he was as he does this behavior to provoke Nora. As stated on page 177  "its all nonsense... nonsense, there's nothing in i! we shall have a lovely tree- ill do all the things you like torvald ill sing and dance. this displays her breaking down. the fact that she has been lying for this long shows that she is breaking down due to all this. it is soon that every one in the play who is living in denial will eventually confess to relieve them of the burden that it is to lie for a long period of time like Nora did.

i am Seth and i was born and raised in this wonderful area. i am 15 years old and love theater with a passion. In my experiences of this very class i have come to enjoy many aspects of it. the people, Mr smith, mrs santos, the fun moments, the really interesting stories that evolve out of the topics we discuss in that very class its all very special to me and i have enjoyed almost all of it through out the year (except the benchmarks). its really fun to see how far not as me but as classmates we have come since day one on September 4th.
Henrik Ibsen was a major 19th-century Norwegian playwright, theater director, and poet. He is often referred to as "the father of realism" (wikipedia) and is one of the founders of Modernism in theater.he was born march 20th 1828 and died may 23 1906(wikipedia). as a child he lived in a small port town called skein and was born into a merchant family. as he would grow a lot of his works would develop to either mimic or mirror his parents or his surroundings especially in his childhood.as he matured he ended up being involved with almost 148 plays as a writer director and producer at the  Det norske Theater (Bergen)(wikipedia),he was married to  Suzannah Thoresen and gave birth to his only child in 1859(biography.com). over the years had passed he moved to Germany were he began to work on many of the famous works he was known for like: Emperor and Galilean,  and times of the Roman emperor Julian the Apostate(Wikipedia). he than moved to munic in 1875 and  and began work on his first contemporary realist drama The Pillars of Society, first published and performed in  A Doll's House followed in 1879(biography.com). This play is a scathing criticism of the marital roles accepted by men and women which characterized Ibsen's society.
as i had stated in the short bio, i explained that he has replicated a lot of his work based on the surroundings and past experiences in his works. i believe that most of the material provided in the story that is to come will be presented in a way were it reflects his past. i believe that the title reveals that he will be living in or representing in a first person way of perception explaining his life as a child in a town similar to where he was born in.
