Nivey Updates

I have some important updates. I know it has been some time since I posted but there seems to be a movement in the universe that is compelling me to update everyone, my one reader, on my comings and goings.

It has been a crazy few years since my last post - almost exactly 10 years. Frankly, I can't believe I made it to 2011. From keeping it real to rocking on, it has been a wonderful decade full of laughter and love.

Ok. No real updates I guess. It appears blogging hasn't come back like I hoped. But when it does, I will be ready. I have a ton of not so funny anecdotes on the ready. I have this bit about how Utah is running out of water that just kills in some circles.

See you in 2031.

The Will Ferrell Atrocity

What would motivate someone to Blog for the second time in almost two years? It must be something serious to warrant an annual post. This is serious. I don’t know how else to say this, but something must be done.

Will Ferrell is overrated!

I know the exclamation point on that phrase is harsh but it was something that needs to be said.

First of all, I like WF from SNL. He was fantastic and maybe the best SNLer ever. He seems like a pretty cool guy in general, he ran a marathon a few years ago in 4:28 and he seems like a big dude.

But his movie choices and the movies themselves generally blow.

The movies
Semi-Pro, Blades of Glory, and Talladega Nights are the same movie with different sports as the theme (Basketball, Ice Skating, and Race Cars respectively). Get a guy that is not very smart, kind of a doofus, give him a hot love interest, and let him face adversity in some sport with some bigger doofus bad guy, and have him win in the end. I realize in these movies it is about the journey, not the destination, but give the audience some credit.

Here are WF movies and my rating of these movies based on the following rating system:
*= Great
^= Good
? = OK
X = Sucked

Megamind - *
The Other Guys - ^
The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard – X
Land of the Lost – X
Step Brothers - ^
Semi-Pro – X
The Landlord – X
Blades of Glory – X
Stranger Than Fiction - *
Talladega Nights - ?
Curious George - ?
The Producers - ?
Wedding Crashers - ^
Bewitched – X
Kicking and Screaming - ^
Melinda and Melinda - ?
Anchorman - ^
Starsky and Hutch – X
Elf - *
Old School - ^
Boat Trip - X
Zoolander - ^
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back - ?
The Ladies Man – X
Drowning Mona – X
Superstar – X
Dick - ?
Austin Powers: spy who shagged me – X
Night at the Roxbury - ?
Austin Powers: International man of mystery - ^

So the three movies of the thirty that are GREAT (10%) are Elf, Megamind, and Stranger Than Fiction – two kids shows and one that is not even a comedy.

Seven of his 30 movies are GOOD and he is not even the funniest person in any of these movies. He is over shadowed in Anchorman big time by Paul Rudd and is like the fifth funniest guy in The Other Guys behind Marky Mark, Samuel L Jackson, The Rock, and this guy.

That means that 20 of his movies are Ok or totally suck. Look HERE for how his movies are graded by critics. If you don’t believe me, at least believe them. Even if his movies are "fresh" they are barely over 60%.

How much more can this guy gravy train from a fantastic career on SNL that ended nine years ago?

Big News From Scottland

Not Scotland, SCOTT LAND, where we live, we are the Scotts. So here is the deal, I just accepted a job in Parowan, Utah to work for the city. I start July 1 and the family will probably move up August 1.

Although it is a step in the right direction and we are super excited about the job and the city, we are devastated to leave Santa Clara. We have such a good thing going right now, it seems crazy to leave. I love my job and those with whom I work but I have been looking for something like this ever since I decided to get my MPA degree in 2001. We are confident that this is a step in the right direction for us in the long run.

Love you all, thank you for your support of me and my family, in the past, now, and in the future.
