Watercolored Maple Thanks

We are certainly enjoying fall weather here. The chilly air, grape harvest and wood gathering are all around us that signal that autumn has arrived. I have a mixed media, water colored card for you today. I had so much fun making this.

I first hand sketched the big maple leaf and did the wet-on-wet technique using my kids' cheap watercolors. This is the first time I've done this technique and I'm a fan now.

I then added pseudo textures using various Penny Black stamps: Textures (burlap) and The Love Chapter (script text). The paper was distressed on the edges. With the stamped textures, distressed water color paper, the panel looks like it's a piece of cloth. The sentiment is die cut using Penny Black's Wishes dies.

Challenges: Die-Cut Divas (something new: wet-on-wet technique), Muse Challenge (Inspirations from the Muse card: my maple leaf substituted the circle, and the die cut sentiment), Cardabilities (sketch).

Have a great day!

My First Ever Mixed Media Canvas

I am excited to share with you my first ever mixed media canvas loaded with my favorite Want2Srap® products. I am still new to this new art form and admit that I struggled with the messiness and randomness (as in collages) of it. So, I thought the beauty of art is you can make it personal with your own style. Here is my take of a shabby and "clean and ordered" mixed media canvas. The piece is 5" x 7".
MM-W2S-canvas
The first thing I did was cover Want2Scrap chipboards (Clouds, Houses, Fences) with DecoArt gesso then let them dry. I decoupaged the top half with some torn blue Graphic 45 papers.
MM-W2S-canvas4
The bottom half is covered with burlap, which I secured with a glue gun. I then adhered my different elements: clouds, house, sentiment, fence and Finesse Swirl pearls, which I divided into two parts: one is placed above the fence (photo below) and the other as smoke from the chipboard house chimney (photo above). I adhered a thin pink lace on the fence.

I left the "Love" chipboard as is because it coordinates well with the burlap. I spelled the rest of the sentiment using Authentique letter stickers. I added some Hot Pink pearls to highlight "lives." I also layered "here" with two kinds of letter stickers to make it stand out.

I then die cut several flower and leave templates using Spellbinders dies (Spiral Blossom One and Bitty Blossoms) from various coordinating Graphic 45 pattern papers. I adhered a big rolled flower with a big Hot Pink pearl on the center, along with a strip of lace on the roof, on the chipboard house. The other rolled flowers are glued along the bottom to anchor the whole piece. I also used various Scrapbook Adhesives by3L products on this canvas.

I have made a few more canvases and will share them with you on future posts. I think you will see how quickly I evolved in my mixed media art, from this clean and ordered style to a more eclectic "messy" type. :) The layout is inspired by the Cardabilities #98. I'm also entering this to the Crazy 4 Challenge #235 (Bingo using flowers, sentiment and bling).

CAS Mixed Media Card

I am really enjoying mixed media, but sometimes don't like the "messiness" and bulk. Today's card is what I call CAS Mixed Media. I used 3 different color media, but kept the card simple. I used a lot of Penny Black stamps on this card: Allegro, Social Butterfly, Floral Applique, Kind Words, Love Chapter, and Breezy.
Vintage-Cards5
I used Dye ink, Pigment Ink and Watercolors (the blue iris and splatters) on my card. I had a little piece of doily on my desk and added that (why not?) :). I then placed Want2Scrap pearls in strategic places to create balance.

I'm entering this to the following challenges: Cardabilities (sketch), CASology (Garden), Muse, SSS Wed Challenge (CAS), The Pink Elephant (Watercolors). Have a great weekend, friends.

Spring Watercolored Background and New PB Stamps

Thank you all for your sweet comments on my Love for Lauryn post. There's still time to send in your cards to encourage this precious family. I also have a giveaway on that post, so make sure you check it out.

I have a simple shabby card for you today - and no stamping required. I used a couple of Penny Black dies: Wishes and Perched. I first watercolored the background with spring colors before die cutting the bird. A little flower, lace and narrow gingham ribbon finish the card.

I love these die cut sentiments. They really stand out. The sketch is inspired by Cardabilities #97. I'm also playing along with the Just Us Girls #236 Challenge.
